C45 - LIMIT AND HOME UNIVERSAL BOARD Rev. 1 User manual Rev. 1 1. Overview This card provides an easy means of connecting optical, mechanical and proximity sensor to operate as homing and limit switches in a 6 axes CNC system. 2. Features 12 RJ45 to connect up to homing and limit switches for 6 axes (X+, X-, Y+, Y-, Z+, Z-, A+, A-, 5+, 5-, 6+, 6-). Revision: 4/07/2010 http://cnc4pc.com/techdocs/c45r1_user_manual.pdf 1/8
Has an electromechanical relay with NO/NC connections for limits. The relay is kept active if none of the sensors are triggered. Has a jumper that allows the COM of the relay to be +5vdc or GND. This can be used to disable hardware when a limit is reached. Can send one signal per axes for axes X, Y, and Z to the controller or one signal for all the axes, so it will save input pins. Supports mechanical switch, Optical Photo interrupters, proximity inductive sensor. Works directly with popular CNC software. Such as mach2, Linux EMC2, TurboCNC and others. (Not all tested). All TTL 5VDC signals. Interface directly with parallel port interface products and other CNC4PC cards. 5VDC (TTL) cards are very common among automation devices. LEDs to indicate when limit switches are activated. 3. Specifications. DIGITAL OUTPUT SPECIFICATIONS Maximum output voltage (5V power supply voltage) + 0.5V Maximum output current ±24mA Maximum off-state voltaje 0.44 V Requirements: This board gets the power from primary RJ45 when it is connected to the Breakout Board. If using it with inductive sensors, an external regulated 12VDC@100 milliamps power supply is required. Revision: 4/07/2010 http://cnc4pc.com/techdocs/c45r1_user_manual.pdf 2/8
WARNING Check the polarity and voltage of the external power source and connect the 12V and GND. Overvoltage or reverse-polarity power applied to these terminals can cause damage to the board, and/or the power source. 4. Board description Primary RJ45: This RJ45 is the interconnection interface between the C16 and the breakout board (C32 and C35). It s pinout is shown below. By using an RJ45 cable on which one end has been cut, it can be wired to any controller that takes +5vdc TTL signals. Pin 4 selection jumper. This jumper allows selecting the signal that will be sent over the primary RJ45 pin 4. This signal can be the HOME X signal or The ALL AXES HOME. COMMON selection jumper. This jumper allows selecting the voltage that will be sent over the NO relay contact. Secondary RJ45: This RJ45 serves for accessing to all 6 axes Home signals. It s pinout is shown below. RJ45 PIN FUNCTION 1 GND 2 X 3 Y 4 Z 5 A 6 5 7 6 8 NOT USED Axes disable Jumpers: These jumpers allow user disables the axes not used in the wiring. If a sensor is disconnected, it will send a high to the controller. This jumper will disable that connection. Note: Limit indicator LEDs will light when a limit signal y activated. Ssignals on primary and secondary RJ45 are active low, which means that a low is generated when a limit signal y activated. RJ45 For Limits: Every axis has supports up to 2 sensors connection. Use the axis disable jumper to disable the input that will not be used. Note: Different kind of sensor can be connected at the same time (Inductive sensor, hall effect, mechanical, Optical Photo interrupters). External 12VCD Power Supply: This power connection is only required when 12V proximity sensor will be used. Revision: 4/07/2010 http://cnc4pc.com/techdocs/ C45R1_User_Manual.pdf 4/8

You may want to disable it if using one input for homing/limits on all axes, and do not want the relay to be deactivated while coming. A +5vdc TTL signal is used, so a signal from the breakout board would work just fine. Revision: 4/07/2010 http://cnc4pc.com/techdocs/ C45R1_User_Manual.pdf 5/8
