What is interactive media?

Interactive media is... Media which involves the user or audience. Interactive media allows the user to input and actively participate so that it can respond and interact with what the user s actions.

Examples of non-interactive media: Broadcast television Film Automatic products which give the user no option to control it or change the settings Examples of Interactive media: Social media Virtual reality Video games Apps Websites

Interactive media comes in a multitude of forms. It can be presented to the user through a phone screen, a projector as well as online on the internet - it depends on its purpose, although most interactive media is screen-based. Examples of... Interactive media is made to suit the needs of a variety of clients. This is suited for retail purposes. This is suited for retail purposes. This is suited for information purposes. This is suited for entertainment purposes.

In order to make Interactive media, you need to have the right equipment suited for what type of Interactive media you are making. Cameras (which can be placed on tripods to make the image straighter) are used to film or photograph... The places of interest on an interactive map The items inside a supermarket which you may scan into a self-service machine Real-life objects inside an app Actors or footage for interactive TV and video games Microphones are used to record audio for... A voiceover reading out an interactive map, ticket machine or cash machine for those who are blind or visually impaired What items have been scanned into and the instructions of a supermarket self-service machine Sound effects, voices or music needed for apps or video games

Computer software is used to edit the graphic design of Interactive media as well as the layout and typography text choice and colour. It is important to have illustration and drawing skills so that the planning and design of the Interactive media is presentable and easy to understand, as well as attractive to the user. It is also important for the Interactive media to have audience interaction, as that is what makes it interactive. This can come in the form of the user inputting audio (such as speaking into the microphone to ask a question) or sensors, with the user moving/touching something on a screen which will then react to their specific movement or action.

What is copyright? Copyright is a rule or law which allows the owner of a creation to specify how they would like others to use their creation. Copyright rules help to protect someone s idea from being stolen, as well as gives the rights to the original owner on how others can use it. What are terms and conditions? Terms and conditions are an agreement between a company and a user of their service. This specifies how the company wants their service to be used, and what the user is allowed to do and not do with it. Terms and conditions can also be considered as a disclaimer, and if the user agrees to the conditions then it is their job to stick to them otherwise they could be held accountable for breaking these terms.

A privacy policy is... A statement from a person or company disclosing how their use the customer or client s data. It is ilegal to misuse this data as it concerns someone s privacy, and so it is important for a privacy policy to exist so that people feel protected and know how their data is gathered and used. Data is collected by... Gathering and measuring certain information, and using it to answer questions concerning research. It is used to test hypotheses as well as evaluate outcomes of studies about data. What is a cookie? A cookie is a small piece of data which is sent to the user s computer (like a message) from a web server to the user s web browser. When the user clicks on another page from the server, the cookie is sent back. Some websites use cookies to track how a user uses their website, which can be useful for advertising and researching how people use their website.

What is material design? Material design is a design system composed of open-source code which helps developers and designers create attractive user interfaces for their own interactive media or product. It encourages the use of unique colour palettes as well as clear and efficient typography to further improve the design of user interfaces.
