How to add an image to a standard page In most cases you will want to add an image to your standard page. This breaks the text up and makes the content more vibrant. You must create your page before you can add an image. 1. To add an image click on the New button in the top left of the menu bar. 2. Select Image under the Files tab on the left. You need to ensure that an Image Consent and Release form is signed by any individual (s) recognisable in any still photo or video before it is uploaded to the website. Image Consent and Release forms are available at the Marketing and Public Relations Resource Centre http://www.newcastle.edu.au/m pr/resourcecentre 1
3. Find the file you would like to upload by clicking on the Browse button. You will have to already have your image the correct size before uploading it to Squiz. A recommended size for images is 400 x 320 pixels. However this size will depend on the length of your content, how your content fits on the page and the orientation of your image. 4. The File Upload pop-up will be displayed. Navigate to where you saved your image and click on the Open button at the bottom of the pop-up. 2
5. Enter a Name for the image and the Alt text. Alt text is used to describe an image for people who may have certain functionality turned off or are using a screen reader, for example those with vision impairment. Alt text is critical to ensure we achieve WCAG 2.0 compliance. More information on Alt text is available in the Support Portal. If your image does NOT support your content in any way, that is, if it is purely aesthetic, then it is acceptable to select Decorative only. 6. Mark Show in menu as No and add a Caption. 7. Click Select New Location. 8. In the Asset Finder navigate to where your page is saved, click on the page and then Select. 9. Click Create. 3
10. Your image has been created in the system. Click Edit. 11. You will be taken to the Details screen. You shouldn t need to change anything on this page however you might like to double check your Title and Alt text. You should not need to make any changes to the other screens. 12. If you make any changes, click on the Save button in the top right corner. 13. To link your photo in your standard page, go to the Asset Finder button on the top right. 14. Within the Asset Finder, navigate to where you created your standard page and click Select. 4
15. Click on the Content screen and click within the content where you would like the image placed. 16. Click the Add image icon. 17. In the pop-up click on the target finder button to find your image. 18. Navigate in the Asset Finder to where you saved your image (it should be under where your standard page saved). Click on the page and then click Select in the bottom corner. 5
19. Your image should now appear in the Insert Image pop-up box. Check that it is the right image and double check your Alt text. Click on Update changes at the bottom. This will insert your image into the story. 20. If you would like to change the justification of your image you can do this by ensuring the image is selected (with the grey boxes in the corners) and clicking on the Toggle justification icon where you can select left, right or centre justification. 21. If you would like to make small changes to the size of your image, rescale it by dragging the grey buttons that appear in the bottom corners in or out. You should not make significant size changes in this system. If you need to rescale the image, do so in another program and resave it into Squiz. 22. Click Save in the top right of the screen 23. To see how the image looks you can click on the Preview button in the Mode Switcher. 6
