Chapter 1 Getting started with ArcGIS Online A step by step guide to get you started using ARCGIS Collector and NetMaps. T o get started using the University of Idaho s online mapping tools and models, you first must get access to the University of Idaho s organizational account. This step is necessary and must be completed in advance of completing these tutorials. T U T O R I A L STEPS Sign up account Download the app Look through videos Read tutorials To get access for the collector mapping, please send an email to Larry Lass at llass@uidaho.edu. Get started with ArcGIS Online Once you get set up with your online account log on to it by going to www.uidaho.maps. arcgis.com and sign in with your user name and password.. 1

Invasive Plant Mapping Demo Search for the Invasive Plant Mapping application and click on the image to open it. The map opens in your web browser and is now ready for your edits. Turn On/Off Layers When the map initially opens it has 77 weed feature services turned on by default. Each weed species is an individual layer. Click on Content and that shows you the different layers in the map. Uncheck the layers you do not want on your map (ie: Black Henbane, Brazilian Elodea etc) Zoom into the area you are interested in and select your basemap by clicking on the Basemap icon at the top. Create Bookmarks You can create your own custom bookmarks to help move around the map more easily. To do this, zoom into a specific area and then click on the bookmark icon. Click on Add Bookmark and type in a name. You can add as many bookmarks as you need. Close the Bookmark tool by clicking on the Bookmark icon again. Your bookmarks are now saved with your map. Save your Map Once you have your map configured you can click on Save and save your map to your own folder. Give it a title and some tag words (ie: weed mapping, weeds, demo) and give it a Summary. Your map is now saved to your own folder and is ready for data collecting. 2

Chapter 2 Getting Started with ArcGIS Collector A step by step guide to get you started using ArcGIS Collector and NetMaps. Download App On your device go to Google Play store and download the latest version of the ArcGIS Collector app. 1. After installing Collector on your Android device, open ArcGIS Collector 2. Sign In to your account making sure you are accessing uidaho.maps.arcgis.com 3

3. Your map that you created in Part 1 should now be listed on your Map Tab. Tap the map's thumbnail to open it. The map opens with your Invasive Weed Mapping map. The extent shown reflects your current location if you enabled location services (otherwise, you see the extent at which the map was saved). If location services is enabled, My Location shows a filled circle, indicating your location is displaying on the screen and that as you move, the map pans to remain centered on your location. Turn on/off layers by clicking on the bottom icon icon. and selecting the layers The list of available layers opens and you can turn each layer on/off depending Collecting on what species Features you are interested in viewing 4

1. Tap Collect New to create a new weed polygon report. 2. The Collect panel opens, displaying the different weed types you can collect a polygon for. Select the species you will be mapping. 3. An attribute screen opens and this is where you need to click on the draw feature tool 5

4. Begin by clicking points on the map to draw your polygon. 5. When you are finished, click on the attribute box (don t hit submit yet) 6

6. Click on each attribute by clicking on the arrow to the right of each one, and answer the prompts. 7. When you are finished, save the weed record by tapping the checkmark. Messages indicate the changes are being submitted and notify you of the success. You're returned to the map, and you can see the weed record you created. Since your edits were saved back to the server that has all the weed polygon data, your report is now synced live with the Net Maps database. 7

8. Tap your weed polygon on your map. Information displays about the location you tapped, including an entry for your weed record. Swipe to the left or right on the result shown to view other weed records (if any) at the location you tapped. Note: Click the down arrow on the weed record to see the attributes you reported for the weed infestation. 9. To see the actions you can take with the result, tap the arrow to the right of it. 8

10.Tap Show details to see the information about your weed polygon. You'll see the values you provided. 11.Tap Map to dismiss the weed record details and return to the map. 12.To delete a weed polygon, click on the polygon in the map and the weed record shows up at the bottom. Click on delete. You will be prompted to confirm you want to delete the polygon feature. 9

Using ArcGIS Collector Offline On the first Collector screen, if your map is available for download, you can tap the Download button to start downloading the map. Note: Only maps that can be taken offline have a Download button. To support taking a map offline, the author needs to prepare the map for offline use. 1. Using the map, zoom in or out as needed until you can see the entire work area that you need to download. 2. Tap Map Detail when you have defined the area you want to download. 3. Zoom in or out until the map is showing the detail you need to work with in the field. Map detail determines the quality or resolution of the map you download; before downloading, make sure you can see all of the information you need on the map. 4. When you have the level of map detail defined, tap Download. You are taken back to the Map Gallery, and the map is downloading. Depending on the size of your map, the download could take some time. 5. When the map has finished downloading, you can open and use the map without an Internet connection. 10

Use basemaps on your device Basemaps provide the frame of reference for your data. When working offline, you can use local basemaps instead of downloading the basemap that supports each map you use offline. This has a few advantages over downloading: it is faster in most cases, and you can prepare basemaps for much larger areas. 1. Prepare a tile package (.tpk) using ArcGIS for Desktop. For details, see How to create a tile package in the ArcGIS Help system. 2. Plug your device into your computer. 3. Using a file explorer on your computer, browse to the ArcGIS_Collector folder on your device. Scroll to the bottom of the window and choose Collector for ArcGIS in the File Sharing section. Note: If you don't see the ArcGIS_Collector folder on your device when connected to your computer, copy the tile package to the Downloads folder instead. Using a file explorer app on your device, browse to the Downloads folder, and move your tile package to the ArcGIS_Collector folder. 4. Copy the tile package (.tpk) to the ArcGIS_Collector folder. 5. Restart Collector for ArcGIS on your device. Sync your work Sync allows you to send and receive updates for maps you've taken offline. Any time you regain connectivity and want to check for new updates or send your updates for other people to see, tap Sync on the map card in the Map Gallery. Manage your maps and basemaps Occasionally, you may need to manage the maps or basemaps you have on your device. You might want to remove the map because you're finished with it, because it is out of date, or to free up space on your device. Manage can be found in the Overflow menu of the Map Gallery. On the Manage screen, you 11

can switch between maps and basemaps. To remove a map or basemap, tap Remove on the item card. When removing a map, you can remove the entire map (including the basemap), or you can remove the map but save the basemap for future use. This is useful if you expect to reuse the basemap again with another map. Note: If a basemap is being used for one or more maps, you cannot remove it from your device without removing the map(s) first. 12
