Reference Guide Weighing Platforms 1 Initial Setup 1.1 Installation Selecting the installation location The foundation of the installation location must be capable of safely supporting the weight of the weighing platform at its support points when it carries the maximum load. The foundation must also be so stable that no vibrations occur during weighing operations. These requirements also apply when the weighing platform is integrated in conveying systems and the like. Ensure that vibrations due to machines near the installation site are kept to a minimum. Setting up and leveling Remove the weighing platform from the packaging. Place the load plate on the weighing platform. Level the weighing platform with the 4 leveling screws (1) using the level indicator (2). The air bubble of the level indicator must come to rest within the ring marking. Ensure even contact of the leveling screws. Check the stability of the weighing platform by pressing down on, or rocking it, at the corners. Lock the leveling screws with the nuts. Releasing the transportation lock for high-capacity platforms, see Documents_K-Line > K-Line_installation_information_...pdf. Installing the connection cable Connection cables up to 10 meters long are available as accessories. Route the connection cable so that it is protected from possible damage. 4

Weighing Platforms Reference Guide 1.2 Electrical Connection METTLER TOLEDO recommend connecting weighing platforms by means of the METTLER TOLEDO ConModule or the ConBox and the corresponding cables (available as accessories). The ConModule is mandatory if digital inputs or outputs are used. If neither of the above connection modules are used, the power supply must fulfill the requirements of EN61204-3:2000 and must incorporate a fuse of 750 ma. Reference Guide Weighing Platforms 1.3 Connecting to a PC Connect your weighing platform to the RS232 port of a PC according to section 1.2. Connect the platform to a suitable power source. To configure the platform, it is advisable to use its RS232 interface. If the ConModule or the ConBox is part of your configuration, use its Dsub9 service plug to connect it to a standard RS232 cable. Install the Windows WM Term Disp Software (CD-ROM > English > Software > WM_Terminal_Display) on your computer by double-clicking the Setup.exe file. Start the WM Term Disp. program. Click the Configure button to configure the COM port of your computer to the factory settings of the weighing platform: 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no handshake. (Detailed information about the interface configuration parameters of your weighing platform can be found in the enclosed Reference Manual (MT-SICS) under the COM command.) Activate the display by clicking the Display button. If the connection has been correctly made, you will now see the actual weight value in the display of the WM Term Disp program. Click the buttons SI, S, T, Z to send the most frequently used commands to the weighing platform. A detailed description of how to use the WM Term Disp program can be found in CD-ROM > English > Software > WM_Terminal_Display > WM_term_disp_HELP.pdf. To display a graph of the weight values against time on your PC, you can also use the WM Graph Disp. program. Please follow the instructions in the Read Me file of the CD-ROM > English > Software > WM_Graphical_Display for installation. It is necessary to run both Setup.exe files. Follow the instructions in the next section to configure your weighing platform. Please also browse through Section 2.2 which tells you how to find detailed information about selected topics that will optimize the use of your weighing platform. 6

Weighing Platforms Reference Guide 1.4 Quick Configuration Guide A number of adjustable parameters allow the weighing platform to be configured to customer-specific needs. To achieve optimum results for repeatability and speed, some parameters must be changed from the factory settings to a configuration that best suits your individual application. The list below shows the 10 most important parameters which need to be verified and adjusted and the respective commands which must be executed. Please refer to the respective command in the enclosed Reference Manual (MT-SICS) and adjust the parameters to the appropriate values. Please see also the EN051_nn_Process-Specific- Configuration.pdf for tips and examples about individual configuration of weighing platforms. # Subject Command Remarks / Example 1 Configuration of the interface parameters (RS232 and RS422) 2 Adjustment (calibration) of the weighing platform 3 Setting the weighing mode: weight control, dispensing, user defined COM Factory setting 9600 baud, 8-N-1, no HS COM 0 6 3 0 COM 1 6 3 0 C3, C2 It is recommended to adjust the weighing platform at its place of installation using either the internal or a suitable external weight during initial commissioning and at regular intervals thereafter. M01 M01 0 Weight control (factory default setting) M01 1 Dispensing 4 Setting of weight signal filter M02 M02 0 Lowest attenuation fast results M02 2 Medium attenuation M02 4 Highest attenuation, for very demanding environmental conditions 5 Setting of stability criteria for weighing, taring, and zero setting M30 The settings of "M30" affect the stabilization time as well as the repeatability of the weight measurement. Format: M30 Funct Tol Time Better repeatability is obtained by: - decreasing Tol (number of digits); - increasing time (seconds). Example: M30 0 1.0 0.2 6 Setting the readability RDB Smallest weight increment = 1 digit 7 Setting the update rate (output data rate) UPD Permissible values are 1 to 7, 9, 12, 19, and 38 updates per second. The default factory setting is 9. Please note the correct setting of the baud rate > COM 8 Setting the output format (control mode) MOD Allows the output format of weighing platforms to be extended by an auxiliary numerical increment. 9 List all current user settings LST Lists all current settings that can be changed by the user. 10 Reset all settings to factory defaults FSET All factory defaults are listed in Manuals > MT- SICS_for_WM_42101959...doc, Appendix 6.1. 7
