Leica DMD108 Modern Network Imaging Solution for Laboratories

Brilliance as Far as the Eye Can See Microscopic Evaluation Done Directly on the Monitor Leica Microsystems has designed a true innovation: a new network imaging solution that addresses the growing workload in today s busy laboratories with fast, easy digital microscopy. The Leica DMD108 reduces physical discomfort and can speed the daily workflow with a modern digital microscope network solution for sharing data. For the first time ever: You can see high-resolution images that differentiate between the slightest nuances of color directly on a monitor without having to look through microscope eyepieces. The easy-to-use Leica DMD108 uses complex mathematical algorithms to create images with the highest resolution and color fidelity. The superb image quality rivals images produced using a conventional microscope. This is possible via a highly sensitive camera and an embedded, high-performance image processor, both combined in a compact imaging system. Show your true colors Color temperature remains constant when light intensity is changed. And the Leica DMD108 automatically adjusts light intensity according to the light requirements of the objective. In addition to optimal color neutrality, the LED illuminator is maintenance-free and generates very little heat. The integrated, precise color management system adapts to individual staining methods and to your sense of color. Components that think When it comes to day-to-day microscopy, ease-of-use is as important as top-quality imaging. The Leica DMD108 s integrated 6x objective turret magnifies with the push of a button or foot switch while automatically adjusting to the optimal aperture diaphragm and light intensity. You can concentrate completely and fully on the specimen without having to spend time changing settings. This product is the subject of a pending 510 (k) submission with the FDA. The rights to use this product are limited to research use only and it is not otherwise available for sale in the Unites States. 2

As the ability to investigate diseases through new technologies improves, the number of tissue sections a microscopist needs to analyze each day increases. Heavier workloads at the microscope can lead to physical fatigue and loss of concentration. The Leica DMD108 provides comfortable specimen viewing, which makes work more pleasant and efficient. Discover New Freedom The Easy-to-Use Solution for Laboratories The Leica DMD108 makes work more comfortable Leica s intelligent design means that a scientist does not have to sacrifice comfortable body posture to view specimens. Enjoy freedom of movement even after many hours spent analyzing specimens without changing your basic workflow. You can manipulate specimens as usual using the instrument s stage controls at the right or left (or lock the stage and hand-drive your slides). The optional foot switch allows you to toggle between various magnification levels. This feature keeps the hands free so you can adjust the specimen and focus. See everything you are used to seeing but more easily and comfortably. Dr. Dan M. Hyder, Director of the Dept. of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at SW Washington Medical Center, Vancouver, WA, USA Searching and locating made easy The Leica DMD108 s macro generator navigation function shows the location of the image portion being viewed. Stage with heavy-duty ceramic surface. Macro generator with an easy-to-use navigation function. 5

When it comes to micro imaging, time is of the essence; time to analyze areas of interest, take measurements, and compare test results. Technology of the Future When Every Second Counts Save images with the push of a button Save selected images with just the push of a button even during examination this is a time-saving solution. Images can be retrieved at any time, which allows comparison with other saved images. One of the system s special functions enables comparison and contrast of live images of specimens with saved images in splitscreen mode. This method is very helpful, e.g. for IHC work. Fast measurements The Leica DMD108 allows you to quantify varying structure sizes in a specimen. Distances and areas are measured easily and accurately with just a click of the mouse. Change objectives with the push of a button. Audio record: two processes in one Remarks can now be audio-recorded with an integrated microphone while you observe the specimen. The comments are saved as *.wav files and can be transferred across the network for processing while you work on the next specimen. Measure distances and areas with a mouse click. Compare live images with saved images. 6

Advanced evaluation techniques have led to increased specialization essential, which makes communication and discussion essential for accurate results. Networking can help provide the assurance of conclusions. The Leica DMD108 joins scientists in a system that connects you directly with colleagues across the hall or across the entire world. Stay Connected The Direct Line to Experts Worldwide Stay connected with colleagues Whether sharing images, comments or other information, the Leica DMD108 connects a scientist with colleagues using LAN and USB. Feel better at the end of the day. Dr. Andrew J. Evans, Dept. of Pathology at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Worldwide exchange Obtaining an opinion from a colleague who is not connected to the network is just as easy. With just the click of a mouse, you can share images directly with others worldwide via e-mail, without having to open an e-mail program. Intelligent communication solution Analyze results with a colleague easily. The Leica DMD108 offers the option of a second monitor or data projector. Now you can easily and comfortably discuss slides with colleagues. Everyone sees the same image without any softening of the color or contrast. This provides an ideal solution for discussion, presentation or teaching. Send pictures via e-mail over the network connection. Optional second monitor allows easy discussion. 7
