VBAK Agent Console Version 5.63.2230 Release Notes, 19 th January 2007 1 OVERVIEW This document contains release notes for the latest version of VBAK Agent Console. Notes: This release is for use in combination with VBAK Agent Console 5.6, Agent 5.6, Oracle Plug-In for Windows 5.6, Exchange DR Plug-In, Exchange MAPI Plug-in and above. This version of VBAK Agent Console 5.63 supports version 5.52 VBA. 1.1 Release History and Changes for version 5.6 August 11th, 2006 - First release, version 5.60.2134 October 5th, 2006 - Second release, version 5.61.2175 October 31st, 2006 - Third release, version 5.62.2189 January 19th, 2007 - Fourth release, version 5.63.2230 1.2 Supported Platforms * OS - with IE 5.5 minimum - Windows 2000 (sp4) - Windows 2000 Server (sp4) - Windows 2000 Advanced Server (sp4) - Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition (sp1) - Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition (sp1) - Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition R2 - Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition R2 2 FEATURES New Features in this Release: 2-1 Package Agents with Plug-Ins now contains the new Oracle Plug-in for Windows. 2-2 Bandwidth Throttling: The user now has the capability to either let the Agent use as much bandwidth as available for backups and restores, or "throttle back" and restrict the usage (i.e.: in Kb/sec). Bandwidth Throttling can also be scheduled (turned on and off) by time of day, and days of the week. 2-3 Advanced Filtering to improve backup performance and usability.
2-4 Longer Job name support in version 5.6 - up from 8 characters to 30. This is only if the Agent is connected to a 5.52 (or greater) version of the vault. 2-5 Browse and backup network resources via UNC paths (for Windows Agents only). The UNC share will be the root for the browse, instead of a device letter. 2-6 Oracle 10g Instant Client support on Solaris and Windows. This is part of the installation, called "Oracle Plug- In Support Libraries Kit". This must be installed to use the Oracle Plug-In. 2-7 Cross catalog searching. Users can search through all available catalogs when restoring files, without switching Restore Wizard screens. 2-8 Restore from another computer. The User can restore from another computer when the job name is identical on both computers. 2-9 The Windows installation kit allows the user to choose an account other than LocalSystem, under which to run the Server Agent's VVAgent and BUAgent services. Two separate options are provided. The first option lets the user specify an existing account (with password) and the second lets the kit automatically generate the user account and password. 2-10 When connected to a version 5.52 Director, the Agent supports Director based licensing of these products/plug-ins: MS SQL Plug-In; MS Exchange DR Plug-in; MS Exchange MAPI Plug-In; Oracle Plug-In (Windows and Solaris); Cluster Plug-In;and OTM. 2-11 MAPI plug-in (on 5.6 Agents) has a new Job option to support the disabling of pre-scanning during MAPI Backups. Two new MAPI exclusion options for "contacts" and "email messages" have been added to the global MAPI filter options. The user can now specify mailboxes with wildcards. 2.12 Added support for UTF-8 Unicode with the Exchange and Oracle Plug-ins for Backups and Restores. Note: When initially configuring an Agent's settings, use either Web Agent Console or Windows Agent Console. Do not attempt to partially configure an Agent with one version of Agent Console and switch to the other version before completed. When an Agent has been configured, it can then be accessed with either version. 3 FIXES FIXES in the 5.63.2230 release:
DTS#8970 WinCC allowed creation of a job with the name longer than 8 characters, if the job was a backup to tape or local disk. The job failed with an error message: "... MS Windows message(122): The data area passed to a system call is too small". DTS#8314 Unable to register Backup job due to possible licensing quota issues on the Vault. Either another job with the same name already existed, or the licensing quota on the vault had been exceeded. DTS#8402 Director 5.52 allowed you to modify the number of online safesets up to 9999 copies. CentralControl only allowed 999 copies. DTS#8510 With filters in CentralControl, when using wildcards separated with semicolons, if there was a space after a semicolon, it did not backup the selection. DTS#8522 If you didn't register a Vault Backup Agent to the Director, you would get "Destination is required" when you attempt to create a DOD backup job. Registering the VBA to a Director prevented this from occurring. DTS#8532 VBA 5.52 did not allow you to create a vault profile while creating a backup job. Error message showed: "Failed to initialize browser interface". If you stopped the new job wizard and created your vault profile first, it worked correctly. DTS#8715 WinCC 5.62 allowed a user to change "tape usage" option on a VBA 5.22 job. VBA 5.22 did not allow the "Do not append" option. DTS#8891 Plug-ins are unable to verify license quota for restores if port 807 not available for connection. FIXES in the 5.62.2189 release: DTS#8457 - Folders with Unicode characters cannot be added to an existing backup job without them being ignored during backup. FIXES in the 5.61.2175 release: DTS#8283 Windows Agent Console can crash when restoring an Encrypted SQL backup. This has been fixed in this release. DTS#8277 Schedule modification via Windows/Remote Agent Console can place invalid entries into the schedule. This has been fixed in this release. DTS#8099 Unable to propagate registration to a clustered node.this has been fixed in this release. FIXES in the 5.60.2134 release:
DTS#7958 Large workspaces fail to open and error out with "unexpected file format" error messages when the file is not loadable. This happens when there are over 500 Agents in the workspace. This has been fixed in this release. DTS#7855 Close button only works when MAPI test passes.this has been fixed in this release. DTS#7059 Backup not functioning properly after adding OTM.This has been fixed in this release. DTS#5822 When restoring from a job with the user disabled onthe vault, an unknown exception is caught. This has been fixed in this release. 4 KNOWN ISSUES 4.1 DTS#7067 Some vpr files are still created as Jobname#.vpr.The naming convention used when doing cross catalog (range of safeset) restores is Jobname_safeset#.vpr. 4.2 DTS#7033 Setting restore to "Restore Data Streams Only" will result in restoring all data streams. "Ignore alternate data streams" is always set to "No". Alternate data streams are restored. 4.3 DTS#6912 Directories and files containing "*" are not backed up on Unix systems. 4.4 DTS#6396 Custom scheduling of NetWare NCF files using the NetWare Agent does not work correctly. This feature has been disabled for NetWare only. 4.5 DTS#6102 VBA Backup option "Continue Backup if connection to Secondary Pool fails" is ignored when unchecked and the backup continues. The backup will continue and complete when it shouldn't have continued, since the 'Continue Backup if connection to Secondary Pool fails' check box was unchecked. 4.6 DTS#3404 On a local backup to tape, if there is a tape already in the drive, it will be ejected before tape backup begins. You must re-insert the tape and it will continue. 5 INSTALLATION NOTES 5.1 Installation Requirements The installation requirements for the Agent Console program are as follows: Hardware * CPU and RAM - Should meet the basic requirement of your Operating System, as prescribed by Microsoft. * Video properties of 16-bit (or greater) for optimum GUI display. * At least 10MB of available disk space.
