TruPortal Output Expansion Board Quick Reference en-us Packing List Introduction A TruPortal system can be expanded by adding an Input/Output Expansion module (TP-ADD-IO-BRD) that consists of: One TruPortal Input Expansion board (TP-ADD-IN-BRD) that monitors up to 16 supervised inputs. For details about the TP-ADD-IN-BRD, refer to the TruPortal Input Expansion Board Quick Reference. One TruPortal Output Expansion board (TP-ADD-OUT-BRD) that provides eight relay output points to connect to devices such as sirens, indicators, or other peripherals. Both boards communicate with the TruPortal System Controller (TP-SYS) on the SNAPP bus (RS-485) and interface with each other via VBUS internal cabinet communications. The boards are available in the following configurations: The TruPortal Input/Output Add-on Kit (TP-ADD-IO) consists of a TruPortal 16-input, 8-output I/O Expansion Module kit installed in a UL-listed enclosure with an integrated power supply. (The kit is also available with a CE enclosure (TP-ADD-IO-E), but cannot be used in UL installations.) The TruPortal Input/Output Expansion Module (TP-ADD-IO-BRD) consists of one TP-ADD-IN-BRD and one TP-ADD-OUT-BRD that can either be installed in a two-door base kit (TP-SYS-2D) that consists of a System Controller in a UL-listed enclosure with integrated power supply, or used for spare parts. One TP-ADD-IN-BRD and up to two TP-ADD-OUT-BRDs can be mounted in a System Controller enclosure. Devices can be powered from the SNAPP bus if the total power consumption does not exceed the limits of the system. 16 input expansion board (quantity = 1) 8 output relay expansion board (quantity = 1) Mounting plate (depending on option ordered) UL or CE enclosure with power supply (depending on option ordered) Installation kit which includes: - Two positional terminal plug-in block (quantity = 2) - Three positional terminal plug-in block (quantity = 19) - Four positional terminal plug-in block (quantity = 1) - End of line resistors 1k ohm, 1% (quantity = 32) - Machine screws (quantity = 8) - Tamper spring (quantity = 1) - Plastic board supports for optional mounting (quantity = 8) Installation Procedure To install the I/O Expansion Module (TP-ADD-IO-BRD), perform the procedures described in the following sections, in the order in which they are presented. 1. Mount the enclosure. 2. Mount the module in the enclosure. 3. Wire the supervised inputs to the Input Expansion board. (Refer to the TruPortal Input Expansion Board Quick Reference for details.) 4. Wire the relay output points to the Output Expansion board. 5. Wire the power and communications inputs. 6. Ensure that the jumpers are configured correctly on the Output Expansion board (no jumpers installed). 7. Apply power to the unit and listen for the relays to click. 8. Observe LED indicators to verify correct board operation. 9. Ensure all wires are clear and secure the cover. WARNING: Circuit board components are vulnerable to damage by electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD can cause immediate or subtle damage to sensitive electronic parts. An electrostatic charge can build up on the human body and then discharge when touching a board. A discharge can be produced when walking across a carpet and touching a board, for example. Before handling any board, make sure to dissipate any charge by touching the ground. This discharges any static electricity build-up. P/N 460804001C REV 01.00 25JUL13 1

Mounting the Enclosure Figure 1: TP-ADD-IO enclosure A TP-ADD-IO-BRD assembly can be installed into either a TruPortal System Controller enclosure, or a TP-ADD-IO or TP-ADD-IO-E enclosure. To install an TP-ADD-IO-BRD assembly into a TP-ADD-IO or TP-ADD-IO-E enclosure: 1. Remove enclosure from shipping container and remove any packing material. 2. Using the template provided (part number 531119001 or 531120001), mark and then drill mounting holes. 3. To mount on dry wall, use 1/8 in. (3.175 mm) hollow wall, expansion anchors. Unscrew the screws from the anchors. Mark the mounting holes. Force a starter hole in each mark with a sharp tool. Hammer the anchors into each hole. Align the box mounting holes over the anchor holes and screw in the anchors until tight. To mount on a concrete surface, hold the enclosure on the mounting surface. Mark the mounting holes. Use a hammer drill with a 3/16 in. (4.76 mm) carb alloy drill bit and make 1-in. (25.4 mm) deep holes in each marking. Insert a # 6-8 plastic anchor in each hole and hammer them in. Use # 8 X 1 in. (25.4 mm), Phillips, wood screws to screw into the plastic anchors and mount the enclosure. 4. The enclosure includes standard cable knockouts on each side, including the back. Use the proper size and type of cable strain reliefs to secure cables to the enclosure. 1 Front view (cover not shown) 2 Bottom view; top view is the same. 3 Side view (typical) 4 0.20 in. (05 mm) and.38 in. (9.6 mm) double keyhole; 3 holes 5 Combination 1.125 in. (28.6 mm) and.875 in. (22.2 mm) knockout (typical) Mounting the Module in the Enclosure One TP-ADD-IN-BRD paired with exactly one TP-ADD-OUT-BRD can be installed inside the TruPortal System Controller enclosure. The universal mounting plate is not required in this case. To install a TP-ADD-IO-BRD assembly into a TP-ADD-IO or TP-ADD-IO-E enclosure, determine the series of eight standoffs for mounting the module. Insert the module and mounting plate assembly, attaching it with the eight nuts provided. Note: Do not overtighten the mounting screws. To mount the module in the AL400 enclosure using the mounting plate, see Figure 3 on page 3. To mount the module in the AL600 enclosure using the mounting plate, see Figure 4 on page 3. To mount the module in AL400 enclosure without the mounting plate, see Figure 5 on page 4. To mount the module in AL600 enclosure without the mounting plate, see Figure 6 on page 4. 2 TruPortal Output Expansion Board Quick Reference

It fits inside an O-ring bushing located in the enclosure s rear wall anti-tamper spring knockout. Leave the O-ring bushing and cap in place if the rear tamper is not used. 1. Remove the cap with the edge of a flat screwdriver. 2. Discard the cap. The tamper spring can now move freely through the bushing and make contact with the enclosure. 3. Secure the enclosure to the mounting surface. 4 TruPortal Output Expansion Board Quick Reference

VBUS VBUS is an internal communication bus that related VBUS modules are used with. The VBUS is not intended for external use. It is designed to be used in a protected enclosure with adjoining interconnection between modules in the same enclosure. VBUS devices must be located behind the tamper switch of its host device. Therefore, the wire length cannot exceed the size of the box. Three conductors are required. Output Expansion Board Jumpers Refer to the following two tables when setting jumpers on the Output Expansion board. Status LEDs Note the following details about Output Expansion board LEDs: The relay LEDs turn on when the relays are activated. Use the P5 test jumper to turn the relay LEDs on or off. The Processor OK LED will flash slowly with VBUS and flash quickly without a VBUS connection. For details about the TP-ADD-IN-BRD LEDs, refer to the TruPortal Input Expansion Board Quick Reference. The following diagram of the Output Expansion board indicates the location of various LEDs, as well as other board components: Figure 7: TP-ADD-OUT-BRD layout Slave Unit Address P2 Address Jumpers P2 P3 P3 1 OUT OUT 2 IN OUT 3 OUT IN 4 IN IN Test (all outputs switch on and off) Not used Jumper P5 P4 IN ON Leave in default position OUT To test the Output Expansion board, insert the P5 test jumper and remove the VBUS connection only.
