Business Insights: Essentials combines all of the content formerly found in Business & Company Resource Center with a new interface. Easily find information on companies, industries and more in the context of timely news, statistical data, and in-depth reports. To access Business Insights: Essentials 1. Go to the library website at http://hickeycollegelibrary.wordpress.com/ 2. Use your mouse to hover over Research Databases on the navigation bar at the top of any page at the site, and then choose Gale Databases. 3. On the next page, click on Search Gale Databases Remotely and On Campus. a. Note Accessing remotely? You will need to enter the password available in the Library Research Databases (Remote Access) folder in the G: drive. If you are off-campus and do not have the password, email library@hickeycollege.edu or call 314.434.2212 ext. 141 (Westport) or 113 (Lindbergh). 4. SCROLL DOWN towards the bottom of the page at Gale and click on Business Insights: Essentials. Search: A basic Search bar is available on the home page and the upper right corner of all other pages at the site. Type in a company name, ticker symbol, industry, SIC or NAICS code, product, brand name or topic and click Search. All results are available in a single results list at Business Insights: Essentials. Hickey College Library, Sep. 2012 1

Closer look at the Results Page: On the results page, you will find company or industry profiles, followed by links to brands and/or articles related to your search term(s). The Company Profile (followed by Industry Profiles) will always be first on the list of search results. At the left, you will find the content types listed, along with the number of items in each type. Click to access only that type of content, i.e. Journal articles 206 are available. You may also search within your results, as well as limit your results by publication type and by subject. 2

Company Finder Click on this tab to view companies by location, industry, revenue or number of employees. For example, if you were looking for companies within a particular state, choose the state and click Update. The Company Finder returns a list of companies headquartered in that state, along with their locations, number of employees and revenue. The default order is by revenue. Use the arrows to re-sort your results by ascending or descending order. To narrow your results, select another category, fill in the information and then click Update. o If you would like to download your results (up to 500 items) into Excel, click Download as CSV Click on a company name to access the Company Profile. Remember that you can use the Advanced Search form to perform more complex searches. Industries (Industry Profiles) Search on industries from the basic Search box on the home page or on the banner in the upper right corner of all other pages. Just enter an SIC or NAICS code or industry name in the Basic Search box and click Search. The results page will give you any company profiles containing that term, followed by a link to the industry profile. Click on the Industry Profile name to access the entry for that industry (see next page in this handout). 3
