1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.0.1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION This board is a Serial-to-Ethernet converter board. This board is very useful for connecting a legacy serial device to an Ethernet network. There are three types of isolated serial outputs available (i.e. RS-232, RS-485, RS-422). It supports virtual mode of operation. In virtual mode, one can configure the board as a PC COM port, which enables to run legacy application software based on standard PC COM port. We also provide various Data Acquisition Cards with serial interfaces such as Digital I/O Cards, Relay Driver Cards, and Analog I/O Cards etc. 1.0.2 FEATURES 10/100Mbps Ethernet port Asynchronous Serial Ports Isolated RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 Serial port RJ-45 Socket for Ethernet Screw terminals for RS-232, RS-422 and for RS-485 DIN rail mountable and/or box packed Device Configuration utility Automatic detection of device 24Volts operation 1.0.3 SPECIFICATIONS Baud Rate Supported 1200,2400,4800,9600,19200,38400,57600, 115200 Core Module Memory 64KB Flash, 4KB RAM Ethernet 10/100Mbps Dimension 130x75x35 mm Power Consumption 50mA@24V, 2Watt max. 1.0.4 APPLICATION AREAS Industrial Automation, Building Automation, Office Automation, Point of Sale, Medical etc. SerEth-1P.doc, Ver2.0 3

2.0 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION Unpacking the product you will find Software installation CD. Please browse SinglePortSetupUtility_V2.0.0 folder and run Setup.exe, which will install the necessary software and files in to your computer. The installation steps are as follows: Setup will initialize installation Then you will next screen as shown below. Click Next to continue to the next window. SerEth-1P.doc, Ver2.0 6
The software will install to default directory. The default Directory is C:\Program Files\Millennium Technologies\MT_1P_SERETH_CONFIG_V2.0.0\MT_1P_SERETH_CONFIG_V2.exe. If you want to change location please browse the desired folder. SerEth-1P.doc, Ver2.0 7
Please click on Next button The installation process will begin. You can see progress on the screen. After finishing the process you will se following screen. Click on Finish button. SerEth-1P.doc, Ver2.0 8
3.0 HARDWARE INSTALLATION 3.0.1 HARDWARE MOUNTING AND CABLING Apply +24V DC power supply to converter. Connect a cross cable between the converter and your PC if it peer-to-peer connection or else straight cable if connected to HUB or Switch in a local network. Connect any serial device, which you want to interface to the converter. Power-on the device now. 4.0 DEVICE CONFIGURATION The user will have to configure the device using the configuration Utility. This utility is provided to search, install and configure the device in a network. All settings like baud rate, IP address, subnetmask, gateway etc. can be set using this utility. These settings are stored in permanent flash memory of the converter. To run the utility, click on desktop icon or browse installation folder and run MT_1P_SERETH_CONFIG_V2.0.0.exe.. First you will see welcome screen. Then you will see following screen SerEth-1P.doc, Ver2.0 9
Please click on Search Broadcast Search menu. The utility will start searching device(s). You can see detected devices in table. After search is finished you can see all the devices found in the table. Please double click on the device you want to configure. The configure screen will appear. SerEth-1P.doc, Ver2.0 10
Please set various parameters displayed on screen. The description of each parameter is given in next section. To apply changes click on Apply button. The device selection screen will appear again. Please search the device again and verify all changes are applied correctly. If converter and computer are in two different networks, you can configure device using Search by IP method. Please click on Search Search By IP menu. You will be asked IP of converter as shown below. Please enter IP address of converter and click on OK. The remaining steps to search and configure converter are similar. SerEth-1P.doc, Ver2.0 11
5.0 CONFIGURATION PARAMETERS Network Settings: 1. Host IPADDRESS: This IP address is the IP address of the PC where the configuration utility is installed. 2. DIN: Device Identification No.(No need for users). Default: 2 3. IP ADDRESS: Put the IP address for the device u want to set. Default 192.168.0.100 4. SUBNET: put subnet mask for the device according to your network settings. Default: 255.255.255.0 5. GATEWAY: put Gateway for the device according to your network settings. Gateway is required only when the device is in other network Default: 255.255.255.255. Note: Please use GATEWAY settings, only if converter and computer are placed in different networks. Otherwise, keep it to default i.e. 255.255.255.255. In case converter and computers are in different networks, please set local IP of router, connecting two networks, as Gateway to converter. Serial Settings: 1. BAUD RATE: Baud rate for the serial device. You can configure from 1200 to 115200. Default: 9600 2. Parity: Parity you can select from NO Parity, Even Parity, and Odd parity according to the serial device supports. Default: No Parity 3. Interface: Interface can be RS-232, RS-485 and RS-422. Default: RS- 485 4. Socket Alive Time: If there is no any activity on Ethernet for the amount of time (in mins) specified in parameter, then device closes its socket after time is over. Default : 0 mins.(socket is never closed) 5. Mode: Please select Virtual Mode to use converter as virtual COM port. The virtual comport utility VSPM is provided in CD. Please browse VSPM folder and read user manual to install and configure VSPM. 6. Packetization Timeout: This is the maximum time, in milliseconds, between 2 bytes, being received on serial port, after which complete packet will be sent on Ethernet. This feature is very useful in time critical protocol, like MODBUS RTU. The converter will wait for complete packet to receive and transfers the complete packet to Ethernet. Range is 0 to 255ms. If Packetization Timeout is set to 0ms, this feature is disabled, i.e. converter does not wait for complete packet to receive (no data for specified time condition) and sends data on Ethernet as it comes on serial port.
