Make sure the PRN is visible on the outside of the package, and that the delivery is pre-paid, otherwise the delivery won t be accepted by IntelliCom. Also provide evidence of original purchase. If the faulty product is covered by the 12-month warranty, IntelliCom will repair or exchange the unit and return it within three weeks. If the product is not covered by Warranty, IntelliCom will respond with a cost estimation for repairing the unit. 5 1 About the NetBiter I/O Extender 1.1 General The NetBiter I/O Extender is a device that is designed to extend the I/O capability of the NetBiter product range (NetBiter Modbus RTU-Modbus TCP, NetBiter WebSCADA, NetBiter NDC). The device acts as a Modbus RTU slave device and is connected to other NetBiter products over a serial Modbus RTU connection. Multiple NetBiter I/O Extenders can be connected in a multi-drop fashion. The NetBiter I/O Extender contains 4 digital inputs, 4 digital outputs, 2 analog inputs, 1 analog output, 2 temperature inputs (RTD). IntelliCom Innovation AB Page 5 (13)

9 2.4 RTD Temperature Input Connections There are 2 RTD inputs on the module. The RTD resistance is read by the module circuitry, linearized and converted to degrees Centigrade. No ranging is required as the module covers the full range of the RTD as indicated in the RTD table. The value that is read from the Modbus register is the actual temperature in degrees centigrade to 0.1 C resolution (i.e. a value of 3451 corresponds to a temperature of C). A value of is used to indicate downscale burnout. The RTD type is configured by writing a value to the RTD Type register. A value of 1 selects pt100 and a value of 2 selects Ni120. Note: As there is no inter-channel isolation, isolated RTDs must be used in order to prevent ground loops and reading errors. 2.5 Analog Input Connections The Analog Inputs (2) can be configured by internal jumpers as either a current input (0-20mA) or a voltage input (0-10V). An input of 0-20mA input current or 0 10V input voltage represents an value of (12 bits) in the corresponding Modbus register. 2.6 Analog Output Connections There is a single analog output channel which can be configured with internal jumpers for a current output (0-20mA) or voltage output (0-10V). The analog output register has a resolution of 12 bits, which means the Modbus register has a range from (corresponding to the current output of 0-20mA or voltage output of 0-10V). A value of 819 ± 1LSB will give a current output of 4mA. 2.7 Digital Input Connections There are 4 digital inputs on the module. The inputs have internal pull-up resistors and are switched to negative. The digital input values can individually be read from discrete input registers or simultaneously from a single register over the Modbus network. 2.8 Digital Output Connections The module has 5 open collector (NPN) digital outputs. The outputs may be used to drive lamps or external relays. The outputs can be written by the Modbus master device. Each output can be individually switched on or off, or all outputs can simultaneously be set by writing a single number to the output register which represents the status of all outputs. An output watchdog timer can be configured to switch off all the outputs if there has been no communications with the module for up to 255 seconds. A value of 0 seconds will disable this timer and the outputs will remain in the last programmed state. IntelliCom Innovation AB Page 9 (13)

10 2.9 Modbus Registers Overview The data corresponding to the input and output terminals of the NetBiter I/O extender can be accessed over Modbus RTU. Each parameter is stored in a Modbus register and can be accessed over the serial RS-485 port using the Modbus RTU communication protocol. When the NetBiter I/O Extender is connected with an other NetBiter supporting Ethernet, the data can be accessed over an Ethernet network using the Modbus TCP/IP communication protocol. The data is stored in 4 different types of registers and the table below describes the different register types. 11 2.10 Physical Dimensions The NetBiter I/O Extender enclosure is shown below. The module has been designed with a quick snap-in assembly for mounting onto DIN-rail s as per DIN EN mm mm 106 mm mm mm 2.11 Ground / Shield Connections In most cases, I/O modules will be installed in an enclosure along with other devices which generate electromagnetic radiation. Examples of these devices are relays and contactors, transformers, motor controllers etc. This electromagnetic radiation can induce electrical noise into both power and signal lines, as well as direct radiation into the module causing negative effects on the system. Appropriate grounding, shielding and other protective steps should be taken at the installation stage to prevent these effects. These protective steps include control cabinet grounding, module grounding, cable shield grounding, protective elements for electromagnetic switching devices, correct wiring as well as consideration of cable types and their cross sections.
