Configuring ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps Easy Guide
Introduction EASY GUIDE ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps include ThingWorx Controls Advisor, ThingWorx Asset Advisor, and ThingWorx Production Advisor (coming soon). These Apps are easy-to-deploy, pre-configured, role-based modules that provide remote monitoring of assets for real-time visibility into factory production and maintenance. In this guide, you will learn how to: Configure ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps Connect ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps to KEPServerEX Create assets in ThingWorx and tie them to data items in KEPServerEX Follow the Steps Step 1: Install ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps Go to https://www.ptc.com/en/thingworx-applications/manufacturing and follow the instructions there to download and install ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps. Step 2: Configure and Connect KEPServerEX to ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps Launch ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps and log in using the name Administrator and the ThingWorx password that you created during installation. In the Enter a Server Name text box, type a descriptive name. Please note that this will create an industrial gateway in ThingWorx, and you will need to reference this server name for future configuration tasks. For this guide, we used the name KEPServerEX.Local. Click Next. Launch KEPServerEX and open the associated FactorySimulator.opf file to follow the instructions in this guide. Follow the on-screen instructions closely to ensure proper setup and connection. For the In Platform, enter the following, step, type your newly-created server name. Important: After completing the on-screen instructions, look at the KEPServerEX Event Log to verify that KEPServerEX is connected to ThingWorx. Troubleshooting If you are unable to make a connection from KEPServerEX, try the following: Verify that the information you entered into the KEPServerEX Project Properties is exactly as displayed in the on-screen set-up instructions. If KEPServerEX is on a different machine than ThingWorx ensure that your firewall is set to allow incoming connections on the port specified. Launch ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps from the set-up page in your browser. This will take you directly to the Controls Advisor app, which monitors the health and status of all connected OPC servers. Unless you have connected other servers, you will only see KEPServerEX on this page. From this page, select the server that you created in previous steps (in this example, KEPServerEX.Local ), and then click the Discover Devices icon. This action needs to be performed any time that devices are added or removed from KEPServerEX. Page 6 of 13 Configuring ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps
Step 3: Add a user Click the grid icon located in the upper left to switch to a different utility. Click Administration and Configuration. Next, click Users and Access Control. Click the plus sign icon to create a new user. Page 7 of 13 Configuring ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps
Create a user for yourself as a Controls Engineer. This gives you access to all of the apps installed on the system. The other roles are given a subset of the apps, depending on the functionality they need to perform their jobs. You can change the language used, enter contact information, and check the boxes for multiple user roles to create user permissions unique to your environment. Step 4: Create models to store data Click the arrow icon to return to Administration and Configuration. Select Manage Resources. Click the plus sign icon to create a new resource. Set the new resource to Asset and name it Asset1. You can also enter a description. Create another resource, this time with the Type set to Line. Name it Station A. After both resources have been created, select Asset1 and then click the pencil icon to configure it. On the Asset Configuration Details page, locate the Related Lines table. Click the plus sign icon to relate line to the asset. Select Station A, and then click Add. Page 10 of 13 Configuring ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps
Step 5: Configure asset properties From the Administration and Configuration page for Asset1, click Additional Properties located in the left pane. Then, click the plus sign icon to add a new property to the asset. Name the property Temp. Click the tag picker icon to associate this property in ThingWorx with a data tag from KEPServerEX. In the Resource Type drop-down, choose KEPServerEX. Select your server name (in this example, KEPServerEX.Local ). You will see a hierarchical view of all tags available from your KEPServerEX instance. In the left column, scroll down Ch1 and click the triangle icon to expand it. Click Ch1.Asset1 to see the available tags in the right column. Select Temperature, and then click OK. Select Save to save this property. Congratulations! You have successfully configured ThingWorx Manufacturing Apps to connect to KEPServerEX, and have connected an asset. For more practice, try to add a couple more assets.
