Technical Information TI 108F/00/en System Components Surge Arrester and Operating Instructions Part. No. 017166-1000 for power supply side for signal input side (2-wire) (2 and 3-wire) Application The surge arrester protects a measuring instrument line side against surges and voltage peaks which occur due to atmospheric electrical charges or switching processes in the power supply. Function Both wires of the power cabling are protected through a surge diverter and a surge-resistant resistor which limits the current when the arrester responds. Application The surge arrester protects a measuring instrument signal side against surges and voltage peaks which occur in cables due to atmospheric electrical charges or interference. The surge arrester is used for signal cables having voltages up to 20 V, cable to ground, or up to 40 V, cable to cable (non-grounded), and currents up to 30 ma. Function The surge arrester protects 2 and 3-pole signal inputs or outputs of a measuring unit. The overvoltage is discharged through a surge diverter in the cabling or a surge-resistant current limiting resistor and a Transzorb diode at the instrument. Endress +Hauser Nothing beats know-how
Installation L1 N power supply with surges The protects a measuring instrument line side against surges. Install the surge arrester near to the measuring instrument or transmitter to be protected. input surge arrester output Mounting On mounting rail conforming to D 42 677 page 1 or on standard rail conforming to EN 50 022-35 x 7.5 or EN 50 022-35 x 15 or in a protective housing IP 55. protected unit Application of surge arrester power supply L1 N Connection Connect the surge arrester as shown in figure. A cable of cross-section max.6 mm 2 can be connected to the ground terminal on the side. protected unit Wiring diagram for 600V- 24 Ω/7W The ground connection must be short and of low resistance and inductance (ground wire). Local regulations for grounding must be observed at all times. Take care that the permissible line resistance between the transmitter and protected unit is not overstepped by the insertion of the surge arrester. 24 Ω/7W 600V- Circuit diagram of 2
