Before Installing the Software Before using the printer, the printer software drivers must be installed. The software is on the CD-ROM included with your printer. Installation instructions are included for printers connected to computers by a USB cable or a parallel cable. Oki Data recommends using a USB connection, as your printer is performance optimized for a USB interface. USB Install: Windows 98 INSTALL THE DRIVERS AND STATUS MONITOR Before you start the install, be sure the USB cable is connected to your printer and PC, and your printer is powered off. 1. Check that the USB cable is plugged in. 2. Turn the printer on. 3. Windows Add New Hardware Wizard displays. Click Next. 4. Select Search for the best driver... Click Next. 5. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. 6. Select CD-ROM drive, clear all other choices. Click Next. 7. The USB port driver is located. Click Next. 8. Click Finish. 9. The Add New Hardware Wizard appears. Click Cancel. 10.The Menu Installer loads and the License Agreement appears. Select I Agree. Click Next. To load the Menu Installer if your system s Autorun is set off, click Start Run Browse. Browse to your CD-ROM drive and double-click Install.exe, then click OK. When the License Agreement appears, select I Agree. Click Next. 4. Scroll down and select USB001 in the Print to the following port list. Click Apply. 5. To print a test page, click the General Tab, then click the Print Test Page button. 6. Click OK to exit the Properties screen. Open the Status Monitor Click Start Programs OKIB4200/OKIB4200 Status Monitor. See Using the Status Monitor on page.10. View the On-line User s Guide In order to open the on-line User s Guide, you must have Acrobat Reader installed. 1. With the CD in your CD-ROM drive, Click Star Run Browse. Browse to your CD-ROM drive and double-click Install.exe. Click OK. 2. The License Agreement appears. Click I Accept. Click Next. 3. The Menu Installer appears. 4. Click View User s Guide or Install User s Guide. 11.Click the Printer Software button. 12.Follow the on-screen instructions selecting the LPT1 port. You can change your port to USB from Control Panel when the installation is complete. 13.Click Finish. Restart the Computer. Select the USB Port and Print a Test Page 1. Click Start Settings Printers. Right-click OKI B4200(PCL). 2. Click Properties. 3. Select the Details Tab. 4

Parallel Install: Windows XP & 2000 INSTALLING PRINTER DRIVERS Two printer drivers are available: An ECP-enabled driver (recommended), which provides faster printing. To use this driver, make sure the ECP setting in your system BIOS is enabled. See your computer s manual for information on how to do this. A logo driver, which provides Microsoft certification. Follow the steps below to install a driver, using the appropriate instructions in Step 7 to either Install An ECP-Enabled Driver or Install a Microsoft Certified Driver. 1. Check that the cable is installed. 2. Turn on the printer. 3. The New Hardware Found Wizard displays. 4. Select Install from list or specific location. Click Next. 5. Insert the CD into your CD-ROM Drive. (If Menu Installer displays, click cancel to close it and continue the installation using Add Printer Wizard.) 6. Select Include this location in the search... Clear Search Removable media. Click Browse. 7. Install an ECP driver Browse to your CD-ROM drive\drivers\win2k_xp\ecp. Click OK. Click Next. If Windows Logo testing dialog appears, click Continue Anyway. or Install a Microsoft certified driver Browse to your CD-ROM drive\drivers\win2k_xp\ logo\winxp.inf. Click OK 8. Click Finish. Print a Test Page 1. Click Start Settings Printers & Faxes. 2. Right-click OKI B4200(PCL). 3. Click Properties. INSTALL THE STATUS MONITOR 1. With the CD installed in your CD-ROM drive, click Start Run Browse. Browse to your CD-ROM drive and double-click Install. Click OK. 2. The License Agreement appears. Click I Accept. Click Next. 3. The Menu Installer displays. Click the Printer Software button. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. 5. Click Restart your system. Click Finish. If you want to add either printer driver at a later date do the following: a. Use the Add Printer Wizard to install the driver. Use the appropriate path in step 7. b. When prompted Do you want to keep the existing driver, click Replace existing driver. c. Reinstall the Status Monitor. d. Restart your system. e. Print a Test Page. Open the Status Monitor Click Start Programs OKIB4200 OKIB4200 Status Monitor. See Using the Status Monitor on page 10. Using the Status Monitor The status monitor is your on-screen control panel where you can monitor printer operation and configure features. To open the status monitor click Start/Programs/OKIB4200/ OKIB4200 Status Monitor. The status monitor displays. Click the Help button for information about each feature. See the B4200 On-line User s Guide for more information. If the status monitor minimized view appears, click the maximize icon. Status Monitor Tabs Three status monitor display tabs provide the following information: Printer Status - This tab appears when you open the status monitor. On this screen, messages pop-up in the status windows so you can see the real-time operations of your printer. README FILE For the latest printer driver information, see the Readme file on the CD supplied with your print. Printer Setup - Click this tab for access to the printer menu setup; you can set paper specifications, document layout, print quality, economy print, and test printing. Preferences - Use this tab to set the appearance and response of the status monitor. 10
Operator Panel Functions The B4200 operator panel consists of a control button and 4 LED indicators. CONTROL BUTTON Use the control button (1) to: Turn the printer on-line/off-line. Resume printing after a paper error, or print overrun. Interrupt/resume data processing. LED INDICATORS The LEDs show the status of your printer. The LEDs also have operating conditions that are indicated by slow or rapid blinking. See the B4200 On-line User s Guide for more information. LEDs: (2) Power: Power is on. (3) Ready: Printer is on-line and ready to print. (4) Manual Feed: Printer is requesting Manual Paper Feed. (5) Error: There is an Error with the printer. Remember, the Status Monitor software displays the status and operating conditions of your printer on-line (see page 10. 11
