PSS ODMS 1.1 About PSS ODMS PSS ODMS is a multi-purpose software product for electrical power transmission system planners and operators. The software is currently used by power companies around the globe to manage grid/network models, train system operators, augment existing SCADA/EMS functionality with online advanced network applications, and facilitate compliance with interoperability regulations based on the IEC CIM 61970 standard (NERC CPSM and ENTSO-E profiles). With its flexibility, lightweight deployment, ease of use, and open architecture, PSS ODMS provides the following benefits: Improved grid model accuracy and quality for long-term and short-term planning studies Reduced regulatory compliance violations/fines Increased collaboration and coordination between transmission planning and operations departments Improved grid security, reliability and situational awareness Reduced network disruptions and outage recovery time Faster and more effective personnel development/training Increased engineering productivity Faster completion of grid studies and planning projects Increased business process efficiency Facilitates interoperability and information exchange between and within power transmission organizations Provides the network analysis functionality of a big EMS solution at a fraction of the cost and Improved grid model accuracy and quality for long-term and short-term planning studies Reduced regulatory compliance violations/fines Increased collaboration and coordination between transmission planning and operations departments Improved grid security, reliability and awareness Reduced network disruptions and outage recovery time Faster and more effective personnel development/training 1-1
Increased engineering productivity Faster completion of grid studies and planning projects Increased business process efficiency Facilitates interoperability and information exchange between and within power transmission organizations Provides the network analysis functionality of a big EMS solution at a fraction of the cost and time to deploy PSS ODMS is a Windows application which can be deployed in multiple configurations. Deployed in a networked multi-user environment, the PSS ODMS application connects to a server-hosted Oracle or SQL Server relational database and (optionally) to an OPC DA/HDA server for near realtime and/or historical measurement data. In an independent user deployment, the PSS ODMS application requires a locally installed instance of SQL Server Express. PSS ODMS has an open, extensible architecture that includes public.net and Python API's. 1.2 Hardware Requirements 1.2.1 PSS ODMS Client Workstation Microsoft Windows-compatible desktop, laptop, or server machine Operating System (32 or 64 bit): Microsoft Windows XP (SP3), Microsoft Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 CPU: minimum 2.1 GHz recommended Memory: minimum 3 GB RAM recommended Hard Disk: minimum 60 GB recommended Graphics Card Resolution: minimum 1024x768 recommended 1.2.2 PSS ODMS Database Server Operating System: Any OS compatible with a supported database platform (typically a Microsoft Windows, UNIX or LINUX operating system). CPU: minimum 2.1 GHz Memory: minimum 3 GB RAM recommended Hard Disk: minimum 120 GB recommended Database Software: Oracle Server 11g R2 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. Note: The database server typically has a Windows, UNIX or LINUX operating system. Note: If the database server is running a Microsoft Windows operating system, the PSS ODMS application can be installed on the server itself so that certain functions such as model backup and recovery can be conveniently accessed on the server. 1-2
1.3 Third-Party Software Requirements The third-party software requirements for PSS ODMS workstations are as follows: All deployment configurations of PSS ODMS PSS ODMS Standard/Enterprise with Oracle PSS ODMS Standard/Enterprise with SQL Server PSS ODMS Single-user Standard prerequisites (automatically installed by running the provided setup.exe): Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 (or higher) Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 (or higher) several other features of PSS ODMS.) Additionally, Python 2.7 (32-bit version) must be separately installed to enable Python scripting and several other features of PSS ODMS. PSS ODMS supports Oracle 11g R2 only. If Oracle is your database platform, these software prerequisites must be installed on each PSS ODMS workstation: 32-bit Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) 11.2 Release 3 32-bit Oracle Client (corresponding to your version of Oracle Server) PSS ODMS supports Oracle 11g R2 only. Note: the following applies to PSS ODMS 9.x versions only (this dependency has been removed in PSS ODMS 10.0). If Microsoft SQL Server is your database platform, these software prerequisites must be installed on each PSS ODMS workstation: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Shared Management Objects (SMO) The SMO Installer can be downloaded from the Microsoft SQL Sever 2008 R2 Feature Pack download web page. The X86 Package must be installed regardless of whether the database server is 32 bit or 64 bit. The SMO installer has a dependency on Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2008 R2 (X86 Package), so it must be installed first. Microsoft SQL Server Express is the only database platform supported by the PSS ODMS Single-user. The following software must be separately installed: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 10.0 (optional but highly recommended) 1-3
