Transcription:

School Check IN Version 4 Printer Installation Instructions PRINTERS -- To print either passes or badges, School Check IN requires either a Dymo LabelWriter 330 or the Dymo LabelWriter 330 Turbo. The DYMO LabelWriter requires a USB connection. Be advised that Windows 95 and MAC OS7 and OS8 DO NOT support USB devices. Printing Badge IDs, Passes and Reports will not function until all Dymo LabelWriters and Report Printers being used, are identified to School Check IN via the ADMIN section Preferences PRINTERS tab. Setting Printer Preferences Printer preferences are accessed via the ADMIN sections Preferences button. Click the Preferences & Setup button.

Printers Tab -- Identifying Printers with School Check IN There are three (3) printer choices that must be completed. Click the Printers tab. Click in each of these boxes and enter the exact Printer name for each function (spelled correctly) as found in the list of printers under the Windows / Start Button / Settings / Printers. Windows 2000 & XP, as well as, MAC OSX will provide a drop down pick list from which to select each printer. The drop pick list does not display for Win_98 and MAC OS7- OS9, the printer names must be manually entered. Using TWO different Dymo LabelWriters (one for Bade ID's (peel & stick labels) and one for Passes (continuous paper), requires that each printer have a unique name and the computer requires two USB ports or a USB hub. NOTE: The Dymo LabelWriter prints a Pass (continuous paper) slightly longer (1/2") than a ID Badge (peel & stick label). This is a function of the printer and cannot be changed. ID Badges print 2.125" x 4". Passes print 2.125" x 4.5".

Windows 98 users access the Windows Printers box (Click on the Windows Start button -- Settings -- Printers). The printer name exactly as seen here must be manually entered into School Check IN Printers. Note capitalization, punctuation and spaces, if present, are considered part of the printer's name and must be included as part of the printer's name. In this Example, since only ONE (1) DYMO LabelWriter is installed, this printer would be identified as both the Continuous Paper and Peel & Stick printer. Continuous Paper Printer: DYMO LabelWriter 330 Peel & Stick Printer DYMO LabelWriter 330 Report Printer HP 2200 A Report Printer must also be installed on the School Check IN computer and properly identified to School Check IN. If a Report Printer is not installed and identified than viewing reports on screen will work. The views will be truncated. Even if no printer is actually installed as a report printer, install a regular inkjet or laser printer and identify this "ghost" printer as the report printer. Click the TRACK & PRINT tab. Once the Dymo LabelWriters have been properly identified to School Check IN, select the paper type for each function. Click in the box and a drop down pick list will appear. Highlight choice. Click in next box and so forth until all selections are complete. Selection choices are: Badge ID's - Peel & Stick Passes - Continuous

Access the Windows Printer Properties menu. 1. Click once on the Dymo Printer. 2. Right Click. 3. Scroll down to Properties. DYMO Label Size Printer Settings: Use this label size (#30256 - SHIPPING LABEL) for both the ID Badges (peel & stick labels) and the Passes (continuous paper). Win2000 & WinXP --- DYMO LabelWriter 330 and 330 Turbo, there are TWO (2) settings that need to be set to properly select and configure the proper the label size. Win98 & WinME --- DYMO LabelWriter 330 and 330 Turbo, there is ONE (1) setting that needs to be set to properly select and configure the proper the label size. The label size for BOTH Passes (continuous paper) and ID Badges (peel & stick labels) should be set as 30256 Large Shipping. 1. Set the DYMO LabelWriter as the default printer 2. Click your computer's START button. 3. Click SETTINGS. 4. Click PRINTERS. 5. Highlight the DYMO printer. 6. Right click on the DYMO printer. 7. Select PROPERTIES. 8. From the tab at the top, select DEVICE SETTINGS and change Label Type to 30256 Shipping. 9. Click Apply. 10. Again within the printer properties; select PRINTING PREFERENCES 11. Select ADVANCED. 12. Change PAPER SIZE to 30256 Shipping. 13. Click Apply. 14. Click OK. 15. Close the Printer Properties. 16. Repeat above procedures to verify that these changes are now in effect. 17. The correct label size should now be in place. School Check IN Version 3 was designed to use ONLY one CUSTOM size label ( 2 /18" x 4" ). The labels will not print properly using a different size.

Known Dymo LabelWriter Printer issues: 1. Prints across TWO labels (half of label info prints on one label and remaining data prints on the second label). -- Incorrect label selection in the printer properties. Change to 30256 Shipping. 2. Prints across TWO labels (on second label. only one line (ADMIN/SEC) prints -- Download and install the most recent printer drivers from www.dymo.com. Install new drivers (overwrite existing drivers) and change label size to 30256 Shipping. 3. Prints across THREE labels. Occurs when using Win2K or Windows XP either through a USB Hub or connected directly to a USB port on the computer. WIin2K and XP registry settings prohibit printer names longer than 28 characters (including spaces, dashes"-", symbols and slashes "\")-- Dymo LabelWriter Turbo 330-USB). Change the printer name from: DYMO LabelWriter Turbo 330-USB to DYMO LabelWriter Turbo 330. Eliminate the "-USB" from the ending of the printer name. 4. After the printer name is changed, recheck label size in both sections for the printer (Printing Preferences & Device Settings). Must be set for 30256 Shipping. Re-Select the printer in School Check IN (ADMIN - Preferences & Settings - Printers). Re-select this new printer. NOTE: per Microsoft -- Any printers on Win2K or XP with a name (including spaces, symbols and paths) longer than 28 characters will have to have the printer name shortened to a maximum of 28 characters. NOTE *** Before trying to set your School Check IN printer preferences and use TWO Dymo LabelWriters, the printers must first be installed in Windows. Adding printers to your operating system is a Windows (not School Check IN) function. See Windows instructions for adding printers. Windows Plug & Play may work. Set one of the Dymo LabelWriters as the Windows default printer. After installing the Dymo LabelWriters, perform a Windows printer test to verify which printer is printing what paper. A successful Windows printer test must be completed first, before trying to identify any printer with School Check IN. Version 3 Passes and Badges will only print properly with School Check IN labels. The label size has changed. Set the Dymo LabelWriter's paper size for 30256 Shipping. This paper size is used for both ID Badges (peel & stick labels) and Passes (continuous paper). Make sure the most recent Dymo LabelWriter printer drivers are installed and are being used. Download the most recent Dymo LabelWriter 330 print drivers from Dymo's web site www.dymo.com. Using old print driver may cause incorrect label printing. Windows 98 & USB Windows 98 does not always recognize USB devices. To insure that windows recognize the Dymo LabelWriter, always have the printer TURNED ON prior to starting Windows. Printing labels without a DYMO LabelWriter 330. 1. School Check IN will print ID Badges & Passes on letter size paper (8 1/2" x 11") without having installed a DYMO LabelWriter. 2. Access the ADMIN Section -- Preferences & Setup -- Printers tab -- Identify the standard inkjet or laser printer as the continuous paper printer and the peel & stick labels printer and as the report printer.

Installing TWO (2) Dymo LabelWriter Printers - Same Printer Model (Installing two Dymo LabelWriter 330 Turbo Printers or installing two (2) standard Dymo LabelWriter 330 Printers on a single Windows computer.) Two (2) Dymo printers with the same model # 93xxxx or higher can be installed on a single computer via a USB connection for both printers on Windows 98SE, 2000, ME and XP Two (2) Dymo printers with the same model # of 90793 or 90891 cannot be installed on a single computer using USB connection for both printers. This installation can be accomplished on a single windows computer with one printer installed as a serial printer (printer #1) and the second printer (printer #2) installed as a USB printer. FIRMWARE UPDATE -- In order to install two DYMO printers with a model # of 90793 and 90891 on a single windows computer with both printers using a USB connection, will require a firmware upgrade. To install the firmware update, please contact Dymo for instructions. Serial & USB Installation You'll need a serial port and a USB port. 1. Exit (close) School Check IN. 2. Delete (uninstall) all DYMO Printers from Windows (START - SETTINGS - PRINTERS). Delete just the DYMOS. 3. Disconnect all DYMOS from the computer. 4. Reboot computer (once it's rebooted, make sure the Dymo Printers are no longer installed). 5. Insert the DYMO installation disk. Follow the onscreen instructions. Do not connect the printer until instructed. VERY IMPORTANT -- Connect printer # 1 as a serial printer. Select the SERIAL PORT (COM) when DYMO asks how you wish to connect this printer. Continue following the onscreen prompts and when instructed, connect your first DYMO using the serial connection (not USB). Use the Dymo SERIAL cable. 6. Test printer & set label size (#30256) in both sections (Printing Preferences & Advanced). Click the "APPLY" button. If you click OK and not APPLY, the choice is not set. 7. If DYMO is talking with computer -- printing a test print okay, then install the second printer. 8. Exit Windows 9. Shut of the computer. 10. Plug in 2nd printer into your computer's USB port and power on printer. 11. Re-start your computer and windows. Your computer should recognize it and install it for you. Win2K and XP are pretty good about this. Win98 doesn't always recognize USB plug-n-play devices. On Win98 computers, you may need to install this second Dymo via the Printers -- Add a Printer process. Again, follow the onscreen instructions and connect this printer via the USB port when instructed. 12. Do a test print on this printer. Set label size (TWO places -- same as first printer). School Check IN -- Testing Two Printers 1. Start School Check IN. 2. Access the ADMIN section 3. Click Preferences & Setup. 4. Click Printers Tab. 5. Click in the Continuous Paper box and select DYMO that has continues paper. 6. Click in the Peel & Stick box and select DYMO with peel & stick labels. 7. If needed, click in the Reports box and select your report printer. 8. Click MAIN Menu. Test it --- Check in a volunteer. See if all works okay. Generally late students use the PASSES (continues paper) and volunteers/visitors use the ID BADGES (peel & stick).
