Reference Card: How to connect Windows 7 to UniWireless Important Information Windows 7 is not supported by ITS. These instructions provided are only a guide and do not provide any troubleshooting assistance. Introduction This reference card outlines what to do to configure a Windows 7 to connect to Uniwireless. To do this you will need to configure the Network settings and the Proxy settings. Audience University Students Requirements Items are needed to complete this task: University username and password WLAN AutoConfig service needs to be set to Automatic or Started Follow the steps in the table below to configure the Network settings 1 Click on the My Computer icon and select Control Panel 2 When the Control Panel screen opens click on the Network and Sharing Centre icon to open the Network and Sharing Centre screen Date: 5 August 2011 Page: 1 of 6
() 4 Click on the Connect to a Network link. 5 When the Manually connect to a wireless network screen appears click on the Manually create a network profile link Date: 5 August 2011 Page: 2 of 6
() 7 Enter the information as shown in the screen shot for the Network name, Security type and Encryption type fields and click the Next button 8 The Successfully added UniWireless screen will now appear. Click the Change connection settings link Date: 5 August 2011 Page: 3 of 6
() 9 When the UniWireless Wireless Network Properties box appears enter the values in the fields as shown in the screen shot. 10 When the Protected EAP Properties screen appears tick the Validate server certificate checkbox, go to the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities list and tick the Thawte Premium Server CA checkbox, select Secure password (EAPMSCHAPv2) from the Select Authentication method drop down box and tick the Enable Fast Reconnect checkbox Click the Configure button. Proxy settings Follow the steps in the table below configure the proxy settings in Internet Explorer. These settings are required to access external websites. 1 Open the Internet Explorer browser and click on the Tools menu. Select Internet Options from the menu 2 When the Internet Options box appears, click the Connections Tab and click the LAN settings button. 3 When the Local Area Network (LAN) settings box appears: To automatically configure the proxy: Tick the checkbox Use automatic configuration script Type http://www.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/proxy.pac in the Address field Click the OK button To Manually configure the proxy: Tick the checkbox Use a proxy server for your LAN Type wwwproxy.student.unimelb.edu.au in the Address field Type 8000 in the Port field Tick the Proxy Server requires password checkbox Tick the Bypass proxy server for local addresses checkbox 4 Click the Ok button to exit the and click OK to exit the Internet Options Date: 5 August 2011 Page: 6 of 6
