For additional product information, see the ecopy Web site at http://www.ecopy.com/. For information about installing, configuring, and using the product, refer to the product documentation. ecopy ScanStation attaches to a digital copier or to a scanner; it includes a freestanding touch screen, keyboard, and PC. There are two Release Notes files; the general Release Notes file, which contains notes common to all ScanStation systems, is in the Documentation folder on Disk 1 and the vendorspecific Release Notes files is in the Documentation folder for your vendor on Disk 2. Supported Operating Systems ShareScan supports the following operating systems, with the latest service packs: Windows XP Windows Server 2003 Windows Server 2008 Windows Vista Enterprise Windows Vista Business - 1 -
If your ShareScan system is running Windows 2000, you must upgrade to a later operating system. For ScanStation systems based on HP 7100/7600 PCs, ShareScan supports Windows XP SP3. For ScanStation systems based on HP 7700/7800, ShareScan supports Windows Vista. Installation Considerations The following considerations are common to all installations: To install ShareScan correctly on a PC running Windows Vista, you must select the Run as Administrator setting. For instructions on installing, configuring, and using ShareScan, refer to the ShareScan Installation and Setup Guide. A PC running ShareScan requires a CPU with a processor speed of at least 2.4 GHz CPU. It also requires at least 512 MB of RAM (1 GB recommended). If you are running ShareScan on Windows Vista, the PC requires at least 1 GB of RAM. The following considerations apply only to ScanStation systems: Make sure that your PC supports Remote Hosting before you install and test ShareScan. Remote hosting enables you to access the ScanStation from another PC on the network. This is important because ShareScan secures the system keys and hides the taskbar by default and you cannot disable these settings. For information about installing drivers on ScanStation systems, refer to the ShareScan Installation and Setup Guide. The PC included with ScanStation systems includes an English operating system. To use other language versions of the operating system, you must change the locale settings. To change the locale settings, select the "Regional and Language Options" function in Control Panel and then change the appropriate settings on the Regional Options tab, the Languages tab, and the Advanced tab. Upgrade Considerations When you upgrade to ShareScan 4.3 from a computer running ShareScan 4.2 SP2, with the Quick Connect and Captaris RightFax connectors installed, the upgrade process disables the Quick Connect and RightFax connectors, without removing the connector profiles. After the upgrade process is complete, a red X appears next to the connector names in the connector list in the Administration console. To enable the connectors, install the 4.3 version of the connectors. All the profiles created for the connectors will be available with the 4.3 version of the connectors. When you upgrade to ShareScan 4.3 from ShareScan OP 3.x, 4.0, or 4.1, the upgrade process updates existing connector profiles for use with ShareScan 4.3. However, if Quick Connect was installed on the ShareScan OP system, it will not appear in the connector list in the Administration console after the upgrade. If RightFax was installed on the system, a red X appears next to the connector name in the connector list after the upgrade. You must download and install the 4.3 version of both connectors. If you are running ShareScan OP 2.x, you must uninstall it and then install ShareScan 4.3. If you want to use your existing connector profiles, you may want to export the profiles and then import them for use with ShareScan 4.3. However, when you import the connector profiles, make sure - 2 -
that you import only <connector_name>profiles.xml files. This is because of the changes to the ShareScan architecture. After you upgrade to ShareScan 4.3, or after you import saved connector profiles, make sure that you validate all the settings in each profile and then save the profiles. If you are using ScanStation systems that are running legacy ShareScan (prior to the introduction of ecopy ShareScan OP), you must perform the following tasks before you install ShareScan 4.3: If the ScanStation is running the Windows 2000 operating system, you must upgrade to a later operating system. Uninstall the legacy ShareScan software. Upgrade to the latest TWAIN driver for your device. Update your system to use the most current service packs for your operating system. Install the touch screen driver, only if you do not have a working touch screen. The driver is in the Drivers folder on Disk 1. If your operating system is Windows Vista, the minimum requirement for memory is 1 GB. If your operating system is not Windows Vista, the minimum requirement for memory is 512 MB. Documentation For ScanStation systems, the product documentation is in the <vendor-name>\documentation folder on Disk 2 Supported Languages ShareScan supports the following languages: English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish. Release Notes Administration console Session Logon: If you select a Windows Active Directory on a domain other than the domain where the Services Manager is running, you must select User Credentials for directory access, not Anonymous. Otherwise, an error message will appear in the Activity Monitor after you load system profiles on the device(s). Remote administration does not require specific permissions for remote logon. General scanning issues ShareScan will compress color TIFF image files that have been scanned at a resolution greater than 300 dpi. You cannot open these images with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. To open these images, use ecopy Desktop or a TIFF viewer that supports TIFF images saved with JPEG compression. ecopy Connectors ecopy Connector for Microsoft Exchange This connector does not support forms-based authentication on a Microsoft Exchange 2007 server. - 3 -
This connector does not support use of the LDAP/WebDAV protocol with CAC (Common Access Card) services. If the size of an attachment exceeds the maximum size specified on the Exchange server, no error message appears on the Client, leading the user to think that the connector did send the e-mail. ecopy Connector for Fax via Microsoft Exchange Some third-party fax vendors do not currently support faxes sent using the LDAP/WebDAV protocol. The invalid fax format error message will appear. This connector currently supports the Search Outlook Contacts function only when you configure the connector to use the LDAP/WebDAV or WebDAV/WebDAV protocol. It does not support this function when you configure the connector to use the LDAP/MAPI protocol. ecopy Connector for IBM Lotus Notes When configuring the address books, if you enable both the Lotus Notes Global Address Book and the Internet Address Book, ecopy recommends that you set unique Search On fields. For example, if the global address book is set to search on First Name or Last Name, set the Internet Address Book to search on Email Address. This avoids the problem of finding users with duplicate first or last names. ecopy recommends that you use the Lotus Notes 8.0 client when running Windows Vista. If you plan to use a Lotus Notes client prior to version 8.0 with ShareScan 4.3, you must install the Lotus Notes client with the Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC) disabled; otherwise, the Lotus Notes client will not work correctly with ShareScan. After you install the Lotus Notes client, you may enable the UAC feature. For information about this issue, go to the following Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/technetmag/issues/2007/06/uac/ ecopy Connector for Fax via Lotus Notes There are currently no release notes for this connector. ecopy Connector for SMTP using LDAP ShareScan 4.x requires a server that supports LDAP v3 protocols, if you are using LDAP for scanning and mailing. This connector complies with the SMTP protocol that requires a valid e-mail ID for the recipient and the sender. When configuring the address books, if you enable both the LDAP Directory and the Internet Address Book, you should set unique Search On fields. For example, if the LDAP Directory is set to search on First Name or Last Name, set the Internet Address Book to search on Email Address. This avoids the problem of finding users with duplicate first or last names. When you configure an Express profile for this connector, the Add Recipients operation returns the names obtained through the execution of an LDAP query on the server. In some cases, the LDAP query does not find all the names; for example, this can happen when the search string begins with non-ascii uppercase characters or lowercase characters. The workaround is to enter the second character after the initial foreign character. The connector then finds all the entries. It finds the names only if you enter the second character and if the initial foreign character is an uppercase character. - 4 -
ecopy Connector for Captaris RightFax Your ecopy ShareScan 4.3 license enables you to download the appropriate version of this connector. If you are using Windows NT authentication, select the "Use Windows NT authentication" check box on the Configuration tab. The user ID specified on the Configuration tab must have Windows NT authentication enabled on the RightFax server. Any user who attempts to authenticate at runtime will receive an error if their account is not set for Windows NT authentication on the RightFax server. RightFax does not support color TIFF files. If you attempt to fax a color TIFF file, the Client will display the following message: "Error 2 occurred while trying to load images for fax. Can't find file specified." ecopy Quick Connect Your ShareScan 4.3 license enables you to download the appropriate version of this connector. The connector adheres to the RFC4180 standard for CSV files. Windows Vista enables UAC as the default setting. To deliver scanned documents to an Access database, you must disable UAC. Novell Vista Client v.1.0 requires that you use full context when configuring this connector from the ShareScan Administration console. Quick Connect does not support the sending of scanned documents to a Microsoft Office Access 2007 database. Scan to Desktop The installation and setup guide states that you must refer to the Ask ecopy knowledge base or contact ecopy Customer Support for information on the support of multiple Inbox root directories. This is no longer true. You do not need to install multiple Inbox Agents to support multiple Inbox root directories. However, each user of ecopy Desktop should have a scan inbox in a single Inbox root directory. If the user s scan inboxes are located on a Novell server, the connector requires a UNC path to the destination. Novell Vista Client v.1.0 requires that you use full context when configuring this connector from the ShareScan Administration console. This requirement applies when you set up the service account for scan inboxes and when you select the Runtime credentials authentication option for a destination. Scan to Printer The "Fit to Paper" option may produce lines around the finished document. The connector does not support page separation for paper sizes other than 11x17 or Letter. An unknown error may occur if you use STMT R size paper. If you import a profile from one system to another, you may be able to print to a device configured in the original profile even if the printer driver is not installed on the target system. - 5 -
ecopy Connector for Fax via Print On a ScanStation, the Document Sent Successfully screen may time out while the printer driver screen is opening. If you rotate a scanned page on the scan preview screen, the connector will send that page and all subsequent pages as separate faxes. ecopy Connector for Fax via SMTP There are currently no release notes for this connector. All ShareScan Clients If you select the Create Searchable Text option and an error message indicates that the connector has failed to connect to the Searchable text engine, press the OK button. Then try the operation again. On a ScanStation running Windows Vista, the log files, along with various other files that the Client writes to, are now stored in the following location: C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Roaming\eCopy\ScanStationClient All ScanStation systems The auto completion function used by the Search while typing option does not work when users search for a name that contains a leading space character. In some cases, very long names selected at the Client do not wrap properly on the Add Recipients screen.
