WHAT WE WILL COVER 3
WHAT WE WILL COVER What Teams Is and What it Does Why you Should be Super Ways to be Super and Step it Up a Notch! 4
What is Teams and What Does it Do? 5
WHAT IS TEAMS? Chat based collaboration work space meant from a group of people within an organization that work together closely. Integrates with other Microsoft and third party services. Each Team gets a SharePoint site collection and a group. Voice and video calling and meetings Mobile app and desktop app. One app to rule them all? New free version! 6
MEETINGS, CALLS, AND CHAT Individual and group chat Voice and video calling Private, team, channel, and meet now meetings Meeting agenda Record meetings Easily save participants and meeting notes 7
SHOULD YOU CREATE A TEAM? Do you have email, skype for business or phone communications more than twice a week, on the same topic? Do you work together with a closed group of people where permissions apply? Do you share documents with each other? Would you like to coauthor documents? Does the nature of this team/project/discipline require categorization or threading (history) of content/communication? Does most of the content/communication require responses? Do you want to create a culture where people actually work together and achieve something? Do you use other websites & apps as part of your daily functions that can be added to the team to make life easier? Ex) Planner, OneNote, Stream, Power BI, etc. Slide Credit: Tracy van der Schyff @tracyvds 8
COMPONENTS Channels Tabs Connectors Bots 9
CHANNELS Keep conversations organized One General channel by default Favorite and follow channels All members of a Team have access to ALL channels Every channel gets an email address. Creates a conversation in Teams. Folder in SharePoint document library Up to 200 channels per Team 10
SHOULD YOU CREATE A CHANNEL? Does a team or channel already exist for this project, initiative, or function? Should all of team members be able to access the content that will reside in the channel? Will additional people outside of the team need to access the channels content? If so, should they be able to access the rest of the team content? Will the channel name make sense to everyone? 11
TABS Brings tools and services your Team uses regularly into a channel. Tabs are added to Channels and appear in the top navigation of the Channel. Files tab connects to the Team SharePoint site. Containers 12
CONNECTORS Services you can connect to inside of a channel. Need to authenticate and provide credentials to the service to connect. 13
BOTS Automated programs that are set up to respond to queries or give updates and notifications about things you want to stay informed about. Use chat based commands to perform an action. T-bot comes with Teams and provides information and FAQ about Teams. The Bot directory contains pre built Teams bots. Ability to create a custom bot. 14
Why Be a Super Team Owner? 15

PIT FALLS TO AVOID Creating too many Teams causing confusion for end users about where to collaborate on what Losing content and frustrating end users when Teams end up needing to be split up, consolidated, or disbanded due to lack of planning Changing team settings without reason and not communicating changes with team members 17
