Description MDT 2000 is a magnetostrictive linear displacement transducer. The position value is obtained by measuring the flight time elapsed between an electrical pulse, sent in a special waveguide, and the echo generated by the interaction with a magnet placed on the slider. The flight time is a direct function of the distance of the cursor from the pick-up of reception located in the head of the transducer. Since the speed of the returning echo is very high (around 2.800 mt/sec.), in order to achieve the required resolution of the position value, the flight time is measured with a high performance counter capable of accumulating pulses generated by a high frequency clock. The use of magnetostrictive measurement principle allows us to enclose the waveguide in completely watertight enclosures as well as inside cylinders resistant to high pressures.
