1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The document relates to the 52mm rotary encoder, RE 2 52. It provides the following: List of kit components Pointers to other documents that are needed to operate this encoder Electrical interface Dimensions of the rotary encoder Mounting instructions 1.1 Mounting Kit Components The mounting kit RE 2-52-INT includes these components:! CB-01013 AqBiSS to user cable, 400 mm, with 15-pin D-type connector! CB-01032 AqBiSS to user cable, 400 mm, with loose wires! L3-7 three servo mounting clamps! MP-00379 Alignment jig To evaluate the rotary encoder, order the evaluation kit, which includes all the required components. 1.2 Related Documentation For instructions on operating the rotary encoder, see the AqBiSS Electric Encoder Evaluation Kits User Manual. For an explanation of the AqBiSS protocol, refer to the Application note AN101 AqBiSS Electric Encoders universal fully digital interface. Shielded, twisted pairs.! Connect the shield at both ends of the cable. On the encoder side, connect the ground cable terminal to the chassis body.! The cable should be sufficiently flexible for your application. NOTE: If a long cable is used, then in order to avoid an excessive voltage drop on the 5V supply, it is recommended to:! Use a cable with the maximum gage possible in order to minimize resistance.! Use a separate power supply with a short cable. CAUTION! The cable from the encoder must have a strain relief to the body of the machine. Excessive pull on the cable might break the encoder. Page 4 of 8

5 MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS To mount the RE252 encoder using the alignment jig only requires a 55.77 mm pilot diameter. Servo mount clamp Motor shaft Motor chassis 1. Partially screw the three servo mount clamps (supplied in RE 2-52-INT) into the motor chassis (not supplied). Turn the flat phase of each clamp towards the shaft. 2. Place the encoder on a flat surface. 3. Place the alignment jig on the same surface. 4. Insert the alignment jig under the encoder. 5. Lift the encoder using the jig. Encoder housing Shaft clamp 6. Mount the encoder on the motor shaft and press the encoder body all the way down. 7. Close the shaft clamp screw with an M2 socket head cap screw (ISO 4762, DIN 912), adjusted to a torque of 0.2-0.3Nm. Page 7 of 8
Encoder connector 8. Gently remove the alignment jig. 9. Press the encoder down to close the gap left by the alignment jig. (Encoder is placed at a 55.77 mm pilot diameter.) 10. Screw in the servo mount clamps. Tighten as appropriate for the base material; for example, an aluminum base is adjusted to a torque of 2.9 inc-lbs. 11. Connect the interface cable (not shown) to the encoder connector. 12. Secure the cable with a strain relief. Page 8 of 8
