5 Staple pgs to your blank page. I will leave one page blank for supplemental notes. Today s Lesson #: U2A11 Topic: Congruence Criteria LO#7: Investigate the congruence criteria for proving triangle congruence and use the congruence criteria in simple proofs.

6 If I wanted to show two triangles in the diagram below are congruent, what would you do? There are tricks in the Geometry World that will allow you to EASILY show that two triangles are congruent instead of showing that ALL corresponding sides are congruent and ALL corresponding angles are congruent.

7 We are going to do an activity that will _ind all of the Triangle Congruence Criteria Meaning, how we can EASILY show that two triangles are congruent. In this activity S stands for Side and A stands for Angle. Ø What does SSS stand for? You will need a ruler with centimeters and protractor to complete this activity.

8 Everyone will receive one grid paper and Congruence Criteria Template sheet. Each group will get 3 scissors. Each table will receive an instruction sheet (yellow) and you will be switching a total of 4 times.

9 As a class we will model the _irst two to make sure you understand the idea of the activity. I will time you for 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes you will switch to the next table. 1 -> 2, 2-> 3,, 6->7, 9->1. If you need help, _irst consult your tablemates, then raise your hand for my assistance.

10 Congruence Criteria o These are combinations of Angles and Sides that allow you to EASILY show two triangles are congruent. Ø SSS Congruence Postulate Ø SAS Congruence Postulate Ø ASA Congruence Postulate Ø AAS Congruence Postulate Ø HL Congruence Postulate o Note that AAA and ASS DO NOT show triangle congruence as it can be more than one triangle.

11 Turn to the next whole page in your notebook and using the whole page make 6 boxes and label them: SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, AAA, ASS ß Color Code it so you remember which ones are and are not Congruence Criteria. Everyone will receive their own sheet of triangles you will cut them out and place them in the category you feel they belong. After 8 minutes we will compare, then tape/glue them to the page.
