1 M i s s i s s i p p i A n n u a l C o n f e r e n c e 2017 Conference Treasurer s Report T HANK YOU for your Generosity in In this 2017 Treasurer s report, I want to share with you how your United Methodist monetary gifts fueled the vehicle that delivered the mission and ministry through and outside of United Methodistism. We did it in 4 areas: 1. Our Mission Shares 2. Our giving to UM ministries through the Treasurer s Office 3. Direct giving to local United Methodist Charities 4. Giving to non-united Methodist benevolences directly. Our apportioned mission shares budget was down because we completed the process of moving from apportioning the health benefits to the direct invoice process. With the lowered apportioned budget, the local churches stepped up their generosity and increased their pay out rate by 1%. The Conference Generosity Team initiated our ribbon recognition program in 2017 and we are continuing it in Members of conference who attend a church that gave second mile gifts through the conference treasurer s office will have a ribbon on their name badge indicating their Generosity to each of 10 areas. The 10 areas are in Group 2 above and are: 1. General Church Special Offerings 2. Annual Conference Offering 3. Mississippi Methodist Senior Services Day 4. Conference Emergency Preparedness - UMCOR 5. Baddour Center Day 6. The Methodist Children s Home Day 7. Conference Benevolences 8. MS Methodist Colleges 9. Camping Ministry 10. Board of Global Ministries (Missionaries and Heifer Project, etc.) We continued our past practice of stickers on the name badges. There are % POWER of We churches that paid 100% of their Conference and District Mission Shares line by line and fulfilled their Clergy Benefits Obligation. When you see someone with the stickers and ribbons on their name badge, greet them with a hearty Thank You for their Generosity. David Stotts, CPA Conference Treasurer/Director of Finance & Administration/Conference Benefits Officer LOVE GENEROSITY JUSTICE APPRENTICESHIP Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church

2 2017 MISSION SHARE GIVING REPORT The following listing is our Apportioned Conference and District Mission Share Giving Report. In 2017, as a way of assisting the districts by saving costs of mailing and administrative work and by saving time in the receipting and depositing work in the district office, the conference treasurer s office began to collect the mission shares for the districts. The funds were remitted in full to the district at the end of each month. The conference pay out rate is listed by each church and is printed in the first column. The district pay out rate is presented in the second column. For each of the 988 local churches witness of generosity and stewardship, we give thanks. A special shout out to those churches that increased their giving this year and those who paid 100%! 14 MISSION SHARES RECEIVED & DISBURSED The following report gives you a picture of the funds given by the local churches and their disbursement. The conference operating budget line items represent those budgeted line items of Mission Shares that provides the work of the annual conference. You will note that some areas spent more than the Mission Shares received. These excess spending are because of fixed costs like salaries and contractual arrangements. The funding for those excess dollars comes from funds raised outside of the Mission Shares and if necessary, reserves. The second and third groups show the funds that are called turnarounds. These are the Mission Shares that are distributed to each of the centers of ministry based on the gifts received from the local churches. You will note that just because they are budgeted a certain amount, they are not guaranteed that actual dollar amount. The amount they receive is based on the generosity of the local churches of the Mississippi United Methodist. This report of ministry areas is broken down by conference mission and beyond the conference mission.
