If a customer has previously purchased Vsupport only on core, do we provide a price concession on Vsupport for customers who want to add it to agents and options? Customers who have purchased Vsupport on their core product but not on their agents and options can purchase support from VERITAS for each BEWS 9 agent or option. This will provide the customer the support they need on their agents and options and provide a 9.0 license right to use with a new serial Beginning in April 2003, Agent/Option version upgrades will be available as a combo with support. VERITAS encourages customers to purchase support on all products, agents, and options to be assured of upgrade protection and technical support. 3. How does Backup Exec technically handle a version-to-version upgrade? Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers product Backup Exec 9.0 box product has the ability to detect previously installed agents and options when installing over a previous version of Backup Exec 8.x. When installing Backup Exec 9.0, it will automatically upgrade all agents and options for Backup Exec 8.x. If installing on a system that does not have a previous copy of Backup Exec 8.x, the customer must contact VERITAS sales to activate the Backup Exec 9.0 upgrade serial Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers product When a customer purchases a upgrade, VERITAS ships a Backup Exec 9.0 core serial product only. Since customers are entitled to upgrade all previously installed agents and options, customers may use their existing Backup Exec 8.x agent and option s on a Backup Exec 9.0 core installation. The only exceptions are: Advanced Open File Option, Intelligent Image Option and Lotus Notes Agent. Customers must contact VERITAS sales to obtain these s. 4

5 4. the customer actually receiving when we sell a new Agent or Option with the embedded Remote Agent (CAL) for Windows Servers? When purchasing a database agent, Advanced Open File Option, or Intelligent Image Option, the customer is getting a single license key that enables them to install the database agent on a local or remote server. Once the agent/option license is installed on the local Backup Exec 9.0 media server, the administrator simply identifies the local BE media server or a server on the network as the target for use with the agent/option. If selling on a database agent or option, the licensing and support are sold on the single license that is displayed as the agent/option name within the Backup Exec interface. 5. Can customers that have standardized on an earlier version of Backup Exec purchase v9.0 Agents & Options (such as Exchange & SQL) and have them work with Backup Exec v8.6? Or do they need to upgrade to v9.0 completely? In general, license keys are NOT interchangeable between product versions of Backup Exec 8.6 and 9.0. Only customers in the program that are current on Vsupport have the right to purchase v9.0 options/agents and use these to add to an existing Backup Exec 8.6 installation. Since the customer would already be a customer, they have the correct serial keys to further deploy licenses purchased. product users will need to upgrade to v9.0 in order to use product agents/options purchased in the channel. 6. What are we doing to upgrade Backup Exec 7.x or earlier customers to Backup Exec 9.0? I understand there are technological differences that make upgrading difficult. Licensing: Non-Vsupport (maintenance) customers who want to upgrade core BENT 7.x to BEWS 9.0 need to purchase a 7.x Version Upgrade and repurchase all agents and options. Backup Exec 7.x Multi-Server Edition to Backup Exec 9.0 Server Edition includes an upgrade for one media server. To protect additional servers, customers must purchase a Remote Agent (CAL) for Windows Servers for each additional server. Technical migration: Non-Vsupport customers need to download BENT 8.6 and install as an eval. The 8.6 eval install will migrate all BE data such as jobs, catalogs and settings. Next, the customer needs to install BEWS 9.0 as an eval. If customers have a problem with downloading, a CD (8.6 or 9.0) can be ordered for them. If customers are current on Vsupport, they should already have s from BENT 8.6 and BEWS 9.0. Using their s, they should install BENT 8.6 first, then BEWS 9.0. When do I sell the Agent Upgrades for the Exchange and SQL Server? These agent upgrades are required for either of the following scenarios: Any customer that is upgrading from Backup Exec v8.0 to 9.0 product (and they do not own Vsupport on their Backup Exec v8) and they now need to protect Exchange 2000 or SQL

6 Any customer using Backup Exec v8.0 Exchange or SQL agents that simply wants to protect Exchange 2000 or SQL 2000 with their BENT/2000 v8.5 or 8.6 product (no upgrade to BEWS 9.0 required). 8. Can a customer upgrade from Backup Exec for NetWare to Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers? Yes they can. However, there are no specific NetWare to Windows Upgrade s, nor is there logic built into the Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Server Family Upgrade to see an existing Backup Exec for NetWare license key (or product) installed on the network for upgrading. Also, all previous job history, logs, job definitions are not transferable from the Backup Exec for NetWare media server to the Windows media server. Customers pursuing this upgrade will need to purchase the Version Upgrade. 9. What limitations does the customer face when evaluating Backup Exec 9.0? Can a customer install the Backup Exec evaluation over 8.x licensed product and will it keep their present application settings? Customers can install the 9.0 eval over Backup Exec v8.x product. However, the customer cannot go back to an earlier 8.6 version without uninstalling 9.0 and re-installing their earlier version and they would have to manually reapply their v8.x s. The installation will keep jobs, catalogs, job history settings; however, but since a 9.0 evaluation has been installed, all the 8.6 serial keys are erased and would have to be reinstalled as part of the 8.6 reinstallation process. 10. What if the customer had run the eval of version 8.6 for 60 days or more will the evaluation still work? No, it will not. Also, installing the Backup Exec 9.0 eval does not reset the 60-day timer over a previous evaluation copy of Backup Exec v8.6. Sales can provide a one-time, 30-day evaluation extender on a per customer basis for a one time only 30 additional days. 11. What if the customer is running Backup Exec 7.x product, will the evaluation work? No. Just like upgrading, Backup Exec 9.0 will not install over 7.x code. They would have to install an 8.6 evaluation, immediately followed by a 9.0 evaluation CD. A suggestion would be to install the 9.0 evaluation copy on another machine. 12. What else do I need to know about Backup Exec 9.0 evaluations? By default, Backup Exec 9.0 saves a copy of all of the customer s 8.x data to a directory of their choice. There is a prompt during the install process. The customers who select "Do not make a backup copy of my data" would not have a copy saved of their 8.x data if they choose to go back to 8.x after evaluating version 9.0. Therefore, users are encouraged to make a backup copy of their data. Keep in mind, installing a product in evaluation mode over live serialized versions will turn that version into an eval, meaning that the s will be erased. If the user decides to re-install the earlier version at a later date, they will need to re-install their old s. It would be a good idea to write them down before upgrading or better yet, DO NOT install an eval over a live production serialized copy of Backup Exec. Install it on a separate test machine.
