1 Why use actionscript? Interactive, logic and advance functionality to your flash piece Button Open a browser window Counting and math User input Code Snippets uses action script great place to start learning action script.
2 CS6 uses ActionScript 3, but can use the older versions of actionscript AS3 was around for CS4 and flashplayer 9, you can use older version with these but with the older versions of Adobe Creative suites and older FlashPlayer you will need to use the appropriate AS versions 2 or Version 1 We will be talking about Action Script 3 here If you start with ActionScript 3 you cannot use Actionscript 2 they are not compatible
3 It is an OOP language Object Oriented Programming. This is what a lot of the dominant languages used now are using so it might be familiar to you if you do any coding Script placement In a keyframe of an.fla file on an ACTIONS layer of the time line in its own.as file that can be imported into your flash document
4 Objects are individual instances of a class. Class is the blueprint of an object. Properties represent facts about the status of the object. For example, width and visible are properties. Methods are actions that an object is capable of performing. For example, movie clip objects include the play() and stop() methods. Events are occurrences that ActionScript recognizes and can respond to, such as when a user points to or clicks an object.
5
6 Action Toolbox list of code for action script Script navigator find in action script like a brower Script pane where you place your code
7 End a single line of code with a ; Use brackets to {Group code with } Script Assist and Code Snippets Assist mode will give you list of options to choose from as you are coding Code Snippets are piece of code you can use in your applications
8 Adding suffixes to an instance will help with code hinting _btn _mc _sound _video _txt
9 Movieclip Button Component Test field Other element
10 Example code: var partonescore:number=0; declaration is var for variable name of object partonescore defining the datatype as a number giving a value to that datatype 0
11 Number positive and negative numbers including 0 String text, number character anything almost Boolean true or false
12 // for Single line of comments /* code comments on Multiple lines */
13 Event is a user clicking or pointing to an object Event Handlers calls a function in response to an event Event Listeners Listens for an event like click ENTER_FRAME event and continuous motion 24 FPS will be faster than 5 fps this is set for the file modify> document
14 Operator Name Description = Assignment Sets the value on the left equal to the value on the right. += Addition assignment Adds the value on the right to the initial value. -= Subtraction assignment Subtracts the value on the right from the initial value. *= Multiplication assignment Multiplies the value on the right by the initial value. /= Division assignment Divides the initial value by the value on the right. ++ Increment Adds 1 to the initial value. -- Decrement Subtracts 1 from the initial value.
15 public every class has access to this class internal only classes sharing this package have access protected only subclasses of this class have access private access only in the same class no external access Topic B
16 1. Specify the package that the class is wrapped in. 2. Define the class using the same name as the AS file you re creating it in. 3. Create the constructor function, which will automatically be executed when an instance of the class is created. 4. Save the AS file, and associate the class with symbol instances on the Stage.
17 HardCoding Specifically adding or assigning a value in code without using a variable. This may be problematic later if the value changes you will need to change the code in multiple place instead of just changing a variable. Conditional Code Creating if blocks of code
18 Operator Description Example == Tests for equality. This allows for conversions between data types, so the string 7 is equivalent to the number 7. 7 == 7 yields TRUE === Tests for strict equality. With this operator, 7 and 7 are different values. 7 === 7 yields FALSE > Greater than. 7 > 5 yields TRUE < Less than. 7 < 5 yields FALSE >= Greater than or equal to. 7 >= 7 yields TRUE <= Less than or equal to. 7 <= 7 yields TRUE!= Tests for inequality, allowing for data conversions. 7!= 5 yields TRUE!== Tests for strict inequality. 7!== 7 yields TRUE
19 Checking Syntax check in the script panel Auto Formatting code
20 Modular coding opposed as copy and pasting Adding and removing events event.target MouseEvent.Mouse_Down Event MouseEvent is a type of variable to identify a specific event Making Single purpose code modular Variable initialized first then the event listeners
21 addchild() displays the list order of this is order it is placed in the display list addchildat (movieclip_mc, 0) this is the first position removechild() removechildat()
22 Special Classes movieclip sprite one frame object normal smaller than a movieclip Document Class In an external file that work with the rest of your classes in you project Custom Class Like a document class custom class is an extension of the movieclip class and an external.as file
23 Keywords this, if are keywords in flash and are usually used to preform specific task in actionscript. this is similar to the way you may use me (a pronoun) The meaning of this is dependent on where it is place in the script, it can mean the movieclip or the stage. Custom Events If you extend a class you can create a custom event, you can find more about custom events on the adobe website ActionScript interface interface is a key word that creates that can insure that unrelated objects can interact. An interface must have a method defined, but with no variables or constant elements
24 Assoicating Class with a symbol open the properties and assign the class and the base class if needed.
3Using and Writing. Functions. Understanding Functions 41. In this chapter, I ll explain what functions are and how to use them.
3Using and Writing Functions Understanding Functions 41 Using Methods 42 Writing Custom Functions 46 Understanding Modular Functions 49 Making a Function Modular 50 Making a Function Return a Value 59
