5 1-1 Features The BVP-570WSPK is a DSP (digital signal processing) color video camera with a built-in wide screen type CCD block. The BVP-570WSPK can be used for Electronic Field Production (EFP) by connecting the optional CCU-700P Camera Control Unit through a CA-550P/570P Camera Adaptor, and for assembling a Betacam SP System suitable for Electronic News Gathering (ENG) by attaching the optional CA-553 Camera Adaptor and BVV-5PS Betacam SP (Superior Performance) Series Portable Video Cassette Recorder. The principle features of the BVP-570WSPK are as follows: ADSP (Advanced Digital signal processing) Wide range of detail control functions to deliver high picture detail Multi Matrix Function The Multi-Matrix function separates the video signal into 16 individually adjustable color areas, thus allowing color uniformity to be attained even among different cameras. Knee Saturation control function This function prevents knee saturation in highlights. Adaptive detail control function This function adjusts the detail gain individually for both black and white. A knee aperture function also allows you to adjust the detail signal beyond the knee point for highlights. Chapter 1 Chapter 1 Overview Incorporating new-generation-vlsi-based ADSP and 12-bit AD conversion, the BVP-570WSPK provides higher picture quality (enhanced S/N ratio and dynamic range) and a host of functions that deliver the sharpest image detail possible. All video signal processing following AD conversion is entirely digital, using 32-bit quantization and a sampling rate of 36 MHz. As a result, a digitization rate of some 80% is attained, while maintaining high picture quality. Adaptive knee function and skin-tone auto-iris function An adaptive knee function varies the knee curve for highlights in accordance with a luminance histogram of the image, to produce higher gradation quality. An additional skin-tone-auto-iris function ensures uniform luminance in skin color and other special hues. Triple-Skin-tone detail function This function creates three detail gate signals for any three colors in the picture, allowing you to control (emphasize or suppress) the amount of detail for the corresponding hues. In addition, a skin-tone-detail auto-hue function automatically generates a gate signal for a subject to which skin detail is added. Detail-boost frequency control The BVP-570WSPK s boost frequency range of 3.6 to 9 MHz allows you to obtain subtle video expression by setting the most appropriate edge width for the subject. Detail mix ratio control (before and after gamma) By enabling the control of the amount of detail signal in the video signal before and after gamma processing, the BVP-570WSPK makes it possible to emphasize or suppress detail in high-video-level areas. H/V ratio control The H-detail and V-detail ratio can be adjusted. Chapter 1 Overview 1-1

6 1-1 Features Chapter 1 Overview Advanced performance Subtle video imaging through a variety of detail effects Selectable aspect ratio of 16:9 or 4:3 Superb stability The BVP-570WSPK is capable of stable operation over long periods and extreme temperature variations. Easy setup Unlike previous video camera models, the BVP- 570WSPK supports setup operations using numerical data, eliminating on-board volume adjustments required in previous video camera models. Easy reproduction of setup conditions allow uniform color matching even when using multiple cameras. Improved reliability The BVP-570WSPK provides self-diagnostics for the entire digital signal processing range. Built-in Power HAD Sensor CCD block Automatic adjustment of black/white balance and memory function A simple switch operation enables the automatic adjustment of the black set, black balance, and white balance. Adjustment settings are saved in memory, and maintained even when video camera is turned off, eliminating the need to make adjustments each time you turn on the video camera. By selecting the setting to suit the lighting conditions, the camera is automatically adjusted according to the white balance saved in memory. Preset white balances for various temperatures can also be selected when there is no time to make an adjustment. Expanded number of Automatic Setup Items In addition to level settings (white/black balance, black set, etc.), automatic setup is now possible for shading compensation. A built-in CCD block incorporates a Power HAD sensor 1)TM CCD 2) with 600,000 pixels to achieve high image quality suitable for Electronic Field Production. The CCD has the following characteristics: High sensitivity High signal-to-noise ratio: 63 db (standard) Very low smear Very low flare Remote control of filter position is also possible by attaching the optional BKDW-701 Servo Filter Unit.... 1) Power HAD Power Hole-Accumulated Diode Power HAD is a trademark of Sony Corporation 2) CCD Charge-Coupled Device 1-2 Chapter 1 Overview

35 4-1 Adjusting the Black Balance and White Balance To obtain consistently high picture quality as you use the video camera, it may become necessary to adjust the black balance and white balance, depending on the conditions. When to adjust the black balance When the video camera is first used. When the video camera has not been used for a long time. When the temperature conditions have changed greatly. When the GAIN selector values have been changed through menu settings. There is normally no need to adjust the black balance when the camera is turned on. When to adjust the white balance Adjust the white balance whenever the lighting conditions change. Display on the viewfinder screen If you start adjusting the black balance or white balance adjustment, messages indicating the adjustment progress and results appear on the viewfinder screen. Notes Automatic adjustments and setting values are saved in the video camera s memory, even when the power is turned off. This information, however, is lost when the backup battery on the AT-126 board, which has a battery life of 1 year, becomes exhausted. If the battery voltage is low, a warning appears in the viewfinder when you turn on the unit. Replace the backup battery with the new one within a few days. If you do not replace the backup battery, the adjustment and setting values in the video camera s memory will be lost Adjusting the Black Balance During automatic black balance adjustment, adjustments are made in order of black set, then black balance. Black shading can also be adjusted. Manual adjustment of black balance can be selected from the setup menu. For details on manual black balance adjustment, refer to the maintenance manual. Steps for black balance adjustment 1 Set the switches as follows: VF DISP: OFF GAIN: Set as low as possible OUTPUT/DCC: CAM 2 Push the AUTO W/B BAL switch to BLK, and remove your finger to release the switch. Chapter 4 Adjustments and Settings for Recording Chapter 4 Adjustments and Settings for Recording AUTO W/B BAL switch The switch returns to the center position, and the adjustment is activated. (Continued) Chapter 4 Adjustments and Settings for Recording 4-1

36 4-1 Adjusting the Black Balance and White Balance Chapter 4 Adjustments and Settings for Recording During the adjustment, the following messages appear on the viewfinder screen: BLACK : OP -BLACK SET- The sequence of the messages is as follows: BLACK SET mblack BAL mcheck The adjustment ends after a few seconds, and the message BLACK: OK appears. The adjustment is automatically stored in memory. Notes When adjustment of the black balance is already accurate, it may be omitted to minimize overall adjustment time. During black balance adjustment, the iris is automatically closed. During black balance adjustment, the gain selecting circuit is automatically activated and so flickering may occur on the viewfinder screen. This is not a malfunction. If automatic black balance adjustment is not possible If the black balance adjustment cannot be completed normally, an error message will appear for about three seconds on the viewfinder screen. The various error messages that may appear are as follows: Black balance adjustment error messages Error message BLACK:NG IRIS NOT CLOSED BLACK: NG R (or G or B): TIME LIMIT BLACK:NG R (or G or B): OVERFLOW Meaning The lens iris did not close, so adjustment was impossible. Adjustment could not be completed within the standard number of attempts. The difference between the reference value and the current value exceeds the maximum adjustment range, making adjustment impossible. If one of the above error messages appears, try adjusting the black balance again. If an error message still appears, an internal check is necessary. For details on the internal check, refer to the maintenance manual. Black balance memory Values stored in memory are saved for about one week when the video camera is turned off. 4-2 Chapter 4 Adjustments and Settings for Recording
