4 INTRODUCTION Congratulations on purchasing your Pan, Tilt, Zoom Camera Remote Control, the, by Asystems! Introducing, the remote control for your PTZ cameras. With Asystems, a single unit can control up to five MK20HD PTZ cameras. The remote control grants users full control of the cameras, and camera functions including pan, tilt, zoom, focus, iris, gain, pedestal, shutter, and white balance can be adjusted remotely via the device. Ergonomically designed, plus the compact size and light weight body make ideal for remote production crews that are often on the run, as well as traditional application in auditoriums, concerts, studios, reality shows, and educational facilities. With so much to offer, is not only one of the best PTZ camera remote controls on the market, it is also the best companion accessory for your MK20HD PTZ Camera (Sold separately). Before operating and exploring the capabilities of the, it is highly recommended that you carefully read through Safety Instructions section first for safe operation while avoiding hazardous situations. OVERVIEW MK20HD is a compact PTZ camera remote control that is designed to control remote cameras and pan-tilt head systems. When serial connection is established, up to five remote cameras and pan-tilt head systems can be controlled. supports RS422 and RS485 standard serial interfaces for long range signal transmission for up to 1000 meter. 9 INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS Handle carefully! Dropping the unit or subjecting it to strong impact or vibration may cause malfunctioning. Power supply Be sure the power plug is firmly connected at all times. If the unit is not going to be used for a prolonged period of time, be sure to turn off the power and disconnect the unit power plug from the AC outlet. Do not allow any foreign objects to enter inside the unit! Allowing water, metal items, scraps of food or other foreign objects inside the unit may cause a fire and/or electric shocks. Installation Location This unit is designed for indoor use only. Install the unit on a sufficiently strong, stable and level surface for use. Ensure a space of at least 100 mm (3-15/16 ) around the front vents to avoid obstructing ventilation. In particular, ensure sufficient space between ventilation and wiring when using mounted in a panel or table between ventilation and wiring when using mounted in a panel or table. Do not install the unit in a manner in which its cables and other accessories can be easily damaged. Do not install the unit in a cold place where the temperatures will drop below 0 C (32 F) or in a hot place where the temperatures will rise above +50 C (122 F). Avoid installing the unit where it will be exposed to direct sunlight or to the hot air that is blown out from other products. Installing the unit in a very humid, dusty or vibration-prone location may damage internal parts and cause rusting and corroding. 7

10 OPERATING PRECAUTIONS In addition to heeding the points presented in the Safety Instructions and Installation Precautions, the following precautions must be observed as well to guarantee user safety and the longevity of the system. Handle with extreme care. Do not drop the product, or subject it to strong shock or vibration. Do not carry or move the product by the PAN/TILT lever. This is important to prevent malfunction of the component. Use the product in an ambient temperature of 0 C to +50 C (32 F to 122 F). Avoid using the product at a cold place below 0 C (32 F) or at a hot place above +50 C (122 F). Extremely low or high temperature will adversely affect the sensitive parts inside the unit. Power off before connecting or disconnecting cables. Before plugging or unplugging the cables, be sure to switch the power off. Avoid humidity and dust. Avoid using the product at a humid, dusty place, humidity and dust will cause damage to the parts inside the unit. Maintenance Wipe the product using a dry cloth to remove stubborn dirt, dip a cloth into a diluted solution of kitchen detergent (neutral), wring it out well, and wipe the product gently. Then, after wiping the product with a moist cloth, wipe it again with a dry cloth. Avoid using benzene, paint thinners and other volatile fluids. If a chemical cleaning cloth is to be used, carefully read through the precautions for its use. When the product is to be discarded When the product is to be discarded at the end of its service life, ask a specialized contractor to dispose of it properly in order to protect the environment. Concerning the consumable parts AC adapter: This is a consumable part. As a general rule, replace it every 5 years or so (when the unit has been operated for 15 hours a day). The period when the consumable parts need to be replaced will differ depending on the operating conditions. Be absolutely sure to ask your dealer for replacement service. 8

Auto Button: Enable auto shutter feature (Disable manual shutter). 6. Iris Controls Knob: Select manual iris opening. Auto Button: Enable auto shutter feature, iris is set as priority, press it again to disable it and returns to manual shutter. 7. Tally Lights Green: Indicate the camera is in PVW. Red: Indicate the camera is in PGM. 8. Camera Select Buttons (1 to 5) Select camera to be controlled. Hold button for 4 second to turn camera power on or off. 9. AE Button: Enable or disable Auto Exposure function. When auto exposure is on, manual shutter and manual iris will be disabled. 8 9

12 Zoom Controls Lever: Up to zoom in; down to zoom out. Speed button: Zoom speed change, cycle through Auto, Hi and Lo. 11.Focus Controls Knob: Clockwise for focus out (Far); counter clockwise for focus in (near); push the knob for one touch focus (center of screen as the focus spot.). Auto Button: Enable auto focus, press it again to disable Auto Focus. When auto focus is turned on, manual focus rotary knob and one touch focus will be disabled. 12. Mute: Mutes and turns the screen black. 13. CTRL ENA (Control Enable) Enable to unlock all top panel controls. 14. Preset and Hot Key Buttons Menu Control Buttons Menu: Open Setup Menu. Enter: Confirm menu selection. ESC (Escape): Cancel selection or go to previous level of menu. 16. Preset Controls. Bank: Toggle banks 1~3 for camera presets, bank 4 for position presents and bank 5 hot key presets. Save: Save current settings to selected preset. Del: Clear selected preset memory. 17. Pan-Tilt Joystick Horizontal: Pan camera left or right. Vertical: Tilt camera up or down. 10

Communication Port Select Switch: Select control communication mode (RS422 or RS485). To switch from one communication mode to another, after selecting the communication mode, user must reboot the console for it to take effect. 6. DC Power Jack. Note: Should PTZ camera(s) fails to respond to s commands and operate accordingly, please do the following, as most errors can be fixed by the steps listed below. 1. Check the protocol method. The Communication Port Select Switch on the back of the controller can be set to RS422 or RS485 communication protocol. Set the switch to the wrong protocol will result failure in communication with the cameras. 2. Check if the RJ45 connector(s) is properly connected to the controller and the PTZ camera(s). 3. If the connector is properly connected, please reboot the controller to reestablish the connection between the controller and the camera(s). 11

14 BASIC OPERATIONS 1. Turn on the unit s power. Set the POWER switch to the ON position. 2. Turn on the connected camera(s). You can turn the connected camera(s) on by holding down the respective Camera Button for 3 seconds until power on message is send back from the camera (illustrated on LCD display) to initiate the power on sequence. 3. Select the remote cameras for operation After each camera power is turned on, quick camera control switching can be achieved by pressing the Camera Select Buttons. 4. Adjust the direction in which the remote cameras are to be focused. Use the PAN/TILT Joystick to adjust the direction and position of each connected camera. The analog joystick has 3 variable pan-tilt speeds. 5. Adjust the zoom. Use the ZOOM control lever to adjust the lens zoom. When the lever is pushed towards UP, the zoom is set to the telephoto mode; when the lever is pushed towards DOWN, th e zoom is set to wide-angle mode. Press SPEED to change the zooming speed. 6. Adjust the lens iris. Use the IRIS control knob to adjust the lens iris or press IRIS AUTO to enable auto iris (shutter is set as priority). When auto iris is enabled, manual iris adjustment will be inaccessible. Manual iris adjustment position is displayed on LCD s status screen. 7. Adjust the focus. Use the FOCUS control knob to adjust the lens focus or press FOCUS AUTO to enable auto focus. When auto focus is enabled, manual focus will be inaccessible. 8. Turn off the unit s power. Set the POWER switch to the OFF position and the unit s power is turned off. Even when the unit s power is turned off, the power of the connected remote cameras does not go off. 12

15 JOYSTICK & ZOOM LEVER CALIBRATION When using to connect different models of PTZ cameras, the on board Joystick and Zoom Lever may sometimes need to be recalibrated to ensure the controller accuracy and performance. Please follow the steps below to recalibrate the Joystick and Zoom Lever. 1. Press the MENU button Use F2 rotary knob to scroll down to CALIBRATION option and press ENTER to begin Joystick recalibration. 2. Select CALIBRATION option After each camera power is turned on, quick camera control switching can be achieved. 3. Follow the LCD command prompt Follow the steps on the LCD screen to recalibrate the Joystick. First by rotating the Joystick around to all four corners; press ENTER when finished. Then put the Joystick to its center (neutral) position; press ENTER again when finished. This concludes the Joystick recalibration process. 4. Select ZOOM CALIBRATION option Under the SYSTEM Menu, use F2 rotary knob to select the ZOOM CALIBRATION option and press ENTER. 5. Follow the LCD command prompt Follow the steps on the LCD screen to recalibrate the Zoom Lever. First by pushing the lever up then down to its furthest positions; press ENTER when finished. Then put the lever to its center (neutral) position; press ENTER again when finished. This concludes the Zoom Lever recalibration process. 13

16 BASIC MENU OPERATIONS 1. Press the MENU button. Press the MENU button to begin menu operation or press WHT BAL, Gain, AWC ABC or SCENE to directly edit these settings within the menu respectively. 2. Select menu options. Use the F1 and F2 knobs to select the menus and change the settings. Use the F1 dial for operations involving the items displayed on the top column of the LCD panel. Use the F2 dial for operations involving the items displayed on the bottom column of the LCD panel. 3. Change the settings using F1 and F2 knobs. Use the F1 and F2 knobs to scroll through menu options and settings. Press ENTER button to confirm selection, while press ESC button to cancel selection or go to previous menu level. 14

17 PRESET SAVING & DELETING OPERATIONS Bank 1 through 3 are reserved for 30 user custom presets. Depending on the situations, user can call up any saved presets with just a push of a button. Preset Saving - To begin saving a preset, user must select a memory allocation for the preset that is to be saved. 1. Press BANK to scroll through Bank 1-5 (Bank 4 is reserved for Position Presets and Bank 5 is reserved for Hot Key Presets), then press preset button 1-10 to select a designated memory allocation. 2. Set the custom setting (shutter speed, iris, exposure setting, white balance, etc). 3. Press SAVE button to save. A confirmation prompt will show up on the LCD screen, use F2 to select saving or canceling, then press ENTER to confirm. Preset Deleting- To begin deleting a preset, user must first select a preset that is to be deleted (Doing so will also load up the preset). 1. Press BANK to scroll through Bank 1-5 (Bank 5 is reserved for Hot Key Presets), then press preset button 1-10 to select a preset. 2. Confirm and load up the preset. 3. Press DEL button to delete. A confirmation prompt will show up on the LCD screen, use F2 to select deleting or canceling, then press ENTER to confirm. 15

18 Hot Key Presets Bank 5 of the is reserved for 10 manual exposure settings as hot keys for quick access. When a hot key preset is recalled, Auto Exposure will immediately be switched to Manual. This function allowed the user to set the values for gain, iris and shutter and is especially helpful in situations where user needs to instantly change the exposure settings in environments with great lighting contrasts. The Hot Key Presets will store the following values: Gain: -3 to +18 db (Default=0) Iris: Close to (Open) Shutter: 1/30 to (1/10000) Once the gain, iris and shutter values have been set, press SAVE button to store the exposure setting then press ENTER to confirm. Press the desired hot key preset to recall it, the system will automatically activate the stored exposure setting. To delete an exposure setting, simply press the hot key preset that is to be deleted then press the DELETE button then press ENTER to confirm delete. Position Presets Bank 4 of the is reserved for 10 camera head position settings for quick access. When a position preset is recalled, the camera head will immediately return to its saved preset location. This function grants user the ability to quickly switches on screen objects to focus on. Position presets will store the vertical (tilt) and horizontal (pan) location of the camera head. Once the camera head position has been set, press SAVE button to store the position setting then press ENTER to confirm. Press the desired position preset to recall it, the system will automatically activate the stored position setting. To delete a position setting, simply press the preset that is to be deleted then press the DELETE button then press ENTER to confirm delete. 16

34 Trouble Shooting 1. No Power. Please check if the power button is turned on. Please check if the power outlet is working properly. Ensure the DC power adapter is firmly plugged in. 2. Camera(s) won t respond. Check is the camera is connected to the correct corresponding port. Check if the Communication Port Select Switch is set to the correct control protocol (RS422 or RS485). Check if the System Setting is set correctly (Asystems or Sony VISCA). If operating in RS422 mode, check camera ID is set to camera 1. If operating in RS485 mode, check the camera ID matches s corresponded camera number (1 to 5); ensure to perform a hard power off/on (unplug power) to the camera at each camera ID change. Check the cable plug is firmly in lock position. Use straight through CAT5/6 (Not cross-over) cable with complete 8 wires. 3. Manual shutter, iris or focus is inoperable. Check if the Auto Exposure is selected. When Auto Exposure is selected, the camera will automatically chooses the optimal settings for your, therefore, disables the manual adjustments. Camera status is not updated when changing from camera to camera. Check if Auto Shutter, Auto Iris and Auto Focus are selected. You cannot set manually set the shutter speed when Auto Shutter is enabled; this is true for iris and focus as well. To enable manual setting, you must disable auto settings. 4. Pan Tilt joystick directions are not responding correctly; no 3 sections zone speed. Perform joystick calibration (In Systems, item 7 Calibration). 5. Zoom lever is not responding correctly. Perform zoom lever calibration (In Systems, item 8 Zoom Cal). 6. Tally lights are not working correctly. Make sure correct Tally port is connected (Port 1 for CH 1 5, port 2 for CH6 8, A, B). Make sure the Tally assignment is set. Make sure the Tally cable is firmly connected. 7. No preset data in memory (error code appears when press). Perform Reset All (Write default data to memory). 32
