4 MSA400 Original operating instructions Correct use The MSA400 is an electric motor-driven system for opening and closing windows/french doors with sliding hardware (sliding elements). It has a maximum displacement force of 50 N (res. 90 N on application of a light curtain) and a traverse path of up to 8 m, and it may only be installed in elements which are compatible with these specifications. Scheme A Scheme E max. 250 kg per sash Scheme G Scheme G2 Scheme K Only operate and/or store the MSA400 system at temperatures between -5 C and +50 C. Operate the MSA400 only when it is in a technically sound condition. Do not modify the unit's components in any way. The MSA400 system may be operated only with hardware components and original accessories from SIEGENIA or with hardware components and accessories from other manufacturers that have been expressly approved by SIEGENIA. In the event of a fault, have the MSA400 checked and repaired by qualified specialists only. When you operate the unit for the first time, you must carry out a reference run as well as a calibration/teach-in run in order to determine the element size and the displacement force. Improper use The MSA400 system is not suitable for use in swimming pools and / or damp rooms. Special designs are possible and permitted only upon request and after having been tested by SIEGENIA. Do not use the MSA400 system on emergency exit or panic exit doors. Sliding elements that are equipped with the MSA400 slide drive must not be used as escape doors in the event of a fire. Do not put the MSA400 into operation when it is not installed, as this can cause mechanical defects. Any use or application of this product that is not in accordance with its proper use, or any adaptation of or modification to the product and its associated components, for which the express consent of SIEGENIA has not been obtained, are strictly prohibited. SIEGENIA accepts no liability whatsoever for any material losses or injury to people caused by failure to comply with this stipulation

5 Original operating instructions MSA400 Safety notices Risk of injury or fatal injury. Hands, arms, legs and feet can get trapped and/or crushed in systems driven by an electric motor. Keep body parts or objects away from areas where the sash slides or locks. This unit can be used by children aged 8 and above as well as by people with physical, sensory or mental difficulties or with a lack of experience and knowledge as long as they are supervised or have been instructed in how to use the unit safely and understand the resulting risks. Children must not play with the unit. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children without supervision. Risk of injury or death due to electrical shock or fire. Systems driven by an electric motor can overheat and cause fire. Insert the Euro mains plug of the standard connecting cable only into a suitable 230 V AC socket. Only a qualified electrician may perform any work on the 230 V AC mains power supply. Current local regulations (such as VDE 0100 of the VDE in Germany) must be observed. Relevant country-specific regulations must be strictly followed for all work on the voltage supply system or building wiring system. All-pole safety isolation is required when the mains cable is laid on-site because the power supply does not have a separate line disconnector. Connect in-wall supply lines to the MSA400 in branch boxes. These branch boxes must be kept accessible for maintenance. When cleaning the sliding sash and the drives, make sure that no liquid gets inside the MSA400 system as this could damage the electronics. Should a solid object or any liquid get inside the unit, stop operation immediately and disconnect the MSA400 from the mains power supply. Then have the MSA400 checked and repaired by qualified specialists only. If the network connection cable is damaged, it may only be replaced by SIEGENIA, its customer service department or a qualified electrician. Injuries caused by falling objects. 6 MSA400 Original operating instructions Description of device and functions Functions The MSA400 system opens and locks the sliding element at the push of a button. The system can be operated using the operating push button on the drive, the supplied infrared remote control or an optional wall switch. Two separate programming buttons on the drive allow you to program the system. Note: Optionally, the MSA400 system locks via a locking motor (not included in scope of delivery). Function Opening the sliding sash Stop sliding sash during travel Opening sliding sash to intermediate position Closing the sliding sash without locking Closing and locking sliding sash* *only with additional locking motor Description Unlocks and opens the sliding sash Stops the sliding sash during travel both in the OPEN travel direction and the CLOSE travel direction. Opens the sliding sash to an intermediate position, which can be programmed to any position. Closes the sliding sash without locking it. This function can be used to prevent inadvertently locking someone out, since the sliding sash can be opened again by hand at any time. Closes and locks* the sliding sash. Safety cut-off To prevent personal injury or damage to the unit, the MSA400 system is equipped with jam protection. If the traverse path of the sliding sash is blocked, e.g. because of an obstacle or because it is held, the sliding sash stops, travels for approx. 4 seconds in the opposite direction and then comes to a final stop. Safety cut-off with optional light curtain If the MSA400 system is equipped with an optional light curtain, the sliding sash is stopped immediately if an obstacle enters the traverse path

7 Original operating instructions MSA400 Operating and display elements Programming buttons and LED indicator The Reset and Prog buttons are used to reset the sash position and to program the system. LED indicator The LED indicator shows the current status during programming or during operation of the system as follows: LED indicator Flashes red/green in alternation Flashes red Continuously green Continuously red Off Off Flashes red Meaning Error after system test or overheating Calibration and teach-in run Sliding sash is travelling to OPEN position Sliding sash is travelling to CLOSED position Sliding sash is in intermediate position Sliding sash is locked MSA400 system is not initialised e.g. after a power failure Operating push button The operating push button is used to trigger functions (open, close, etc.) and is also used during programming. Infrared remote control (optional) The supplied infrared remote control is used for operating the system and can be used to control up to a max. of 5 groups individually or simultaneously (programming required). A group can consist of multiple motorised sliding elements and/or window elements. Each element in a group must be taught in to the group. Up to a max. of 8 remote controls can be taught in on one MSA400 system so that the system can be operated by 8 different infrared remote controls. Wall button Note: Wall buttons are not included in the standard scope of delivery. They are additional equipment that must be provided by the customer. If a wall button has been installed by the customer, the MSA400 system can also be operated using this wall button

8 MSA400 Original operating instructions First operation When operating the MSA400 system for the first time, you must perform a reference run and then a calibration/teach-in run. Perform reference run 1. The sliding sash must be in the CLOSED position in order to begin the reference run. If necessary, slide the sash to this position manually. 2. Supply power to the.msa400 system. 3. Press the operating push button. The reference run starts. During the reference run, the sash is unlocked and then locked again. 4. Wait approx seconds until the sash is locked. The LED switches off once the reference run is complete Sek. Note: A reference run must also be performed after a power failure in order to re-initialise the MSA400 again

9 Original operating instructions MSA400 Performing a calibration and teach-in run The calibration and teach-in run only has to be performed when commissioning the equipment. Risk of injury! Hands, arms, legs and feet can get trapped and/or crushed! There is no safety cut-off function. During the entire calibration and teach-in run, maintain a safe distance from the moving elements. Risk due to incorrect measured values! To prevent incorrect measured values, never interrupt or interfere with the calibration and teach-in run of the MSA400 system 1. Block sliding sash 2 (not applicable for scheme A). 2. The sliding sash must be in the CLOSED position in order to begin the calibration and teach-in run. If necessary, slide the sash to this position manually. 3. Press the Prog button; the LED flashes green. 4. Press and hold the operating push button for approx. 11 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds 4 times in succession. 5. Release the operating push button. 6. Press and hold the operating push button for approx. 2 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds once. 7. Release the operating push button. The calibration and teach-in run starts. The LED flashes red. During the calibration and teach-in run, the sliding sash travels to the OPEN and CLOSED positions twice. 8. The element stops at sliding sash 2. Remove the blockage within approx. 5 seconds (not applicable for scheme A). 9. The LED switches off once the calibration and teach-in run is complete sec. 1 2 F 2x 3x 4x sec. 2 x Once the calibration and teach-in run has been completed successfully, the MSA400 system is ready for normal operation

The sliding sash is unlocked and opens; the LED lights up green. 1 x Stopping sliding sash during travel OPEN or CLOSE direction While the sliding sash is opening, press the operating push button once. The sliding sash stops. 1 x Opening sliding sash to intermediate position Note: The desired intermediate position must be programmed on the MSA400 system before carrying out this function see. Teach in intermediate position on 14. With the sliding sash closed, press and hold the operating push button for approx. 2 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds once. The sliding sash opens up to the intermediate position; the LED lights up green. ca. 2 Sek

With sliding sash open, press the operating push button once. The sliding sash closes; the LED lights up red. 1 x Closing and locking the sliding sash (optional, only with supplementary locking motor) With sliding sash open, press the operating push button 2 times. The sliding sash closes and locks; the LED lights up red. 2 x

12 MSA400 Original operating instructions Operation via the infrared remote control Important: When operating the system using the infrared remote control, always point the remote control in the direction of the LED. Intense solar radiation and light incidence can reduce the range of the infrared remote control. Group selection Before triggering a function, select the group to be controlled using the corresponding selection button (ALL button or 1 to 5). The selected group is stored until a different group is selected. Used batteries must be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner - batteries must not be disposed of in the household waste! Insert 2 new batteries of one of the following types: Micro (AAA) LR03 as indicated on the bottom of the battery compartment. Then close the battery compartment

13 Original operating instructions MSA400 Programming Infrared remote control Teach in group Important: The supplied infrared remote control is taught-in to group 1 by default. 1. Press the Prog button; the LED flashes green. 2. Press and hold the operating push button for approx. 5 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds 2 times in succession. 3. Release the operating push button; the LED flashes red. 4. Within 10 seconds, press the desired button (button 1-5) on the infrared remote control for the new group. 5. A short acoustic tone sounds. The infrared remote control is now taught-in to the new group; this group can now be operated using this infrared emote control. Delete group 1. Press the Prog button; the LED flashes green. 2. Press and hold the operating push button for approx. 5 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds 2 times in succession. 3. Release the operating push button; the LED flashes red. 4. Within 10 seconds, press the button (button 1-5) for the group to be deleted on the infrared remote control. 5. A long acoustic tone sounds. The group has been deleted from the infrared remote control; this group can no longer be operating using this infrared remote control ca. 5 Sek. ca. 10 Sek. 2x Delete all groups 1. Press the Prog button; the LED flashes green. 2. Press and hold the operating push button for approx. 5 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds 2 times in succession. 3. Release the operating push button; the LED flashes red. 4. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the operating push button for another 5 seconds until an acoustic signal sounds 2 times in succession. 5. Release the operating push button. 6. A long acoustic tone sounds. All groups have been deleted from the infrared remote control; no elements can be operated with this infrared remote control ca. 5 Sek. ca. 10 Sek. ca. 5 Sek. 2x 2x

Press the Prog button; the LED flashes green. 3. Press and hold the operating push button for approx. 8 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds 3 times in succession. 4. Release operating push button; the sliding sash opens. 5. At the desired intermediate position, press the operating push button once. 6. The sliding sash stops and the intermediate position is stored. The sliding sash can now be opened up to the intermediate position ca. 8 Sek. 2x 3x x

15 Original operating instructions MSA400 Function Teaching-in close without locking 1. Open sliding sash completely (OPEN position). 2. Press the Prog button; the LED flashes green. 3. Press and hold the operating push button for approx. 5 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds 2 times in succession. 4. Release the operating push button. 5. Press and hold button 1 on the remote control until a short acoustic signal sounds. 6. Release button 1, the function has been taught-in. The sliding sash can now be closed without locking it. Deactivating the close without locking function 1. Open sliding sash completely (OPEN position). 2. Press the Prog button; the LED flashes green. 3. Press and hold the operating push button for approx. 5 seconds until a short acoustic signal sounds 2 times in succession. 4. Release the operating push button. 5. Press and hold button 1 on the remote control until a long acoustic signal sounds. 6. Release button 1, the function has been deactivated ca. 5 Sek. 2x Reset the sash position Perform reference run 1. The sliding sash must be in the CLOSED position in order to begin the reference run. If necessary, slide the sash to this position manually. 2. Press the RESET button; the LED flashes red. 3. Press the operating push button. The reference run starts. During the reference run, the sash is unlocked and then locked again. 4. Wait approx seconds until the sash is locked. 5. The LED switches off once the reference run is complete Sek

16 MSA400 Original operating instructions Cleaning and maintenance Important: Water must not enter the MSA400 system during cleaning! Only clean the external housing components of the system with a lightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use any corrosive chemicals, aggressive cleaning agents or substances containing solvents, as this could damage the surface of the housing. Malfunctions In case of a malfunction, do not open the device or try to repair it under any circumstances. We accept no liability whatsoever for any material losses or injury to people caused by failure to comply with this stipulation. Product liability Our products are guaranteed subject to correct installation and proper use for a period of one year from the date of receipt by a company (according to our general terms and conditions) or as otherwise agreed, and for a period of two years for end consumers, in accordance with statutory provisions. As part of our ongoing improvements, we reserve the right to replace individual components or entire products. Consequential damages resulting from defects are excluded from the warranty within the limits of the law. The warranty shall become void if modifications that are not authorised by us or have not been described in this documentation are performed on the product and/or individual components, or if the product and/or individual components is/are dismantled or partly dismantled, and the defect is due to the changes made. Disclaimer of liability The system and its components are subject to stringent quality controls. As a result, they function reliably and safely when used correctly. Our liability for consequential losses and/or claims for damages is excluded, except in the case of wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or where we are responsible for injury to life, physical injury or damage to health. Strict liability under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz) remains unaffected. Liability for the culpable violation of significant contractual obligations also remains unaffected; liability in this case is limited to damages that are specific to the contract and that could have been foreseen. The above regulations do not imply a change in the burden of proof to the detriment of the consumer. Environmental protection Although our products do not fall within the scope of the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), SIEGENIA will continue to meet the requirements of this Act and will endeavour to completely eliminate the use of substances that are hazardous to the environment as soon as this becomes technically feasible.
