2 WHAT IS MHEALTH? mhealth stands for mobile-based or mobile-enhanced solutions that deliver health. The ubiquity of mobile devices in the developed or developing world presents the opportunity to improve health outcomes through the delivery of innovative medical and health services with information and communication technologies to the farthest reaches of the globe. Includes any wireless device carried by or on the person that is accepting or transmitting health data/information Sensors (e.g., implantable miniature sensors and nanosensors ) Monitors (e.g., wireless accelerometers, blood pressure & glucose monitors) Mobile phones With mhealth we can have: Low network maintenance Remote monitoring in rural areas Phones are always on, computers are not Carrying a Phone/Tablet is part of a modern lifestyle Using a small portable multi-communication computing device is convenient, economical, practical and personal

6 Mastering mhealth Apps & Wearables to Improve Health Outcomes 33% of patients with chronic diseases don t currently use mobile apps to manage their conditions, but would like to start. 50% of patients believe they should bring information/digital tools to their doctor rather than the other way around. 26% of respondents agree that finding direct means of communicating with health professionals presents the biggest hurdle.*

7 Most Doctors Not Ready to Recommend Mobile Apps to Patients 41% of doctors agree that health apps could be a game changer... BUT just 36% said they are likely to recommend such an app to their patients.
