(It is normal for the adaptor to feel warm during use.) To connect a standard telephone on the same line, see section 5-D. IN USE/CHARGE/HOLD Indicator To select the dialing mode TONE (preset) or PULSE You can program the dialing mode using the handset near the base unit. The TALK indicator light must be off before programming. (#) twice (PULSE) Press AUTO (fl) ($) twice (TONE). To cancel during programming, press (OFF). Start again from the beginning. If 3 beeps sound during programming, the handset is too far from the base unit. Move closer to the base unit or place the handset on the base unit. Start again from the beginning. If you do not press any buttons for 60 seconds, the unit will return to the standby mode.

3 Getting Started Section -D Belt Clip You can hang the handset on your belt or pocket using the belt clip. To attach the belt clip To remove the belt clip -E Optional Headset Plugging an optional headset into the handset allows a hands-free phone conversation. Please use only the Panasonic KX-TCA90C headset. Connecting the optional headset to the handset Open the headset jack cover and connect the optional headset to the headset jack as shown. ator Headset Jack LD E) When the optional headset is connected to the handset, make sure to use the headset to talk with the caller. If you want to have a regular cordless phone conversation, disconnect the headset. -F Wall Mounting This unit can be mounted on a wall phone plate. Push the hook and turn it around. Turn the hook until a click is heard. 3 Connect the telephone line cord. Mount the unit, then slide down. Raise the antenna. Fasten the telephone line cord to prevent it from being disconnected. Lighted handset keypad ( ), ( ), CH (fi) (HOLD) The handset dialing buttons will light when you press a button or lift the handset off the base unit, and flash when a call is received. The lights will go out a few seconds after pressing a button, lifting the handset, answering a call, hanging up a call or leaving the programming mode. -A Making Calls Press ( ) and dial a phone number. To have a hands-free phone conversation, press ( ) and dial a phone number. When the other party answers, talk into the microphone. The TALK indicator lights. If an alarm tone sounds, see section 5-E. To hang up, press (OFF) or place the handset on the base unit. The TALK indicator light goes out. To redial the last number dialed Press ( ) or ( ). To put a call on hold Press (HOLD). The TALK indicator on the handset and the IN USE/CHARGE/HOLD indicator on the base unit flash. If you put a call on hold for more than 6 minutes, an alarm tone will sound. The call will be disconnected after a total of 0 minutes. To release the hold Press ( ) or ( ), or lift the handset off the base unit. If another phone is connected on the same line (5-D), you can also release the hold by lifting its handset. Hands-free Digital Duplex Speakerphone For best performance, please note the following: Talk alternately with the caller in a quiet room. If the other party has difficulty hearing you, press ( ) to decrease the speaker volume. If the other party s voice from the speaker cuts in/out during a conversation, press ( ) to decrease the speaker volume. While talking using ( ), you can switch to the hands-free phone conversation by pressing ( ). To switch back to the receiver, press ( ). To adjust the receiver volume (HIGH, MEDIUM or LOW) or speaker volume (6 levels) while talking Press ( ) or ( ) while talking. Receiver volume (While using ( )) Each time you press ( ) or ( ), the volume level will change from MEDIUM (preset) to HIGH or LOW. When you replace the battery, the selected receiver volume setting will return to the factory set (MEDIUM). Reprogram if necessary. Speaker volume (While using ( )) Each time you press ( ) or ( ), the volume level will change from level to level 6. Your phone comes from the factory set to level 3. If noise interferes with the conversation Press CH (fi) to select a clearer channel or move closer to the base unit. 3 Speed Dialer Sp TALK Indicator (OFF) AUTO (fl) Memory Station Numbers 3-A Storing Phone Numbers in Memory You can store up to 0 phone numbers in the handset. To turn the ringer OFF, press and hold ( ) until beeps sound. To turn the ringer ON, press ( ) or ( ). The ringer will sound. When you replace the battery, the selected ringer volume setting will return to the factory set. Reprogram if necessary. 6 4 Special Features Section 4 4-D How to Use the PAUSE Button (For Analogue PBX Line/Long Distance Service Users) PAGING Indicator IN USE/CHARGE/HOLD Indicator We recommend that you press if a pause is required for dialing with a PBX or to access a long distance service. e.g. Line access number (9) (PBX) (9) Phone number Pressing once creates a 3.5 second pause. This prevents misdialing when you redial or dial a stored number. Pressing more than once increases the length of the pause between numbers. (TONE) (FLASH/CALL\WAIT) (HANDSET LOCAT) 4-E Handset Locator You can locate the handset or page the handset user with beep tones. Press (HANDSET\LOCAT) on the base unit. The PAGING indicator on the handset and the IN USE/CHARGE/HOLD indicator on the base unit flash and the handset beeps for minute. To stop paging, press (HANDSET\LOCAT) again or press ( ) and (OFF) on the handset. 4-A For Call Waiting Service Users Press (FLASH/CALL WAIT) if you hear a call-waiting tone while talking. The first call is put on hold and you can answer the second call. To return to the first caller, press (FLASH/CALL WAIT) again. The call waiting service cannot be used when a parallel connected telephone is in use. If this function does not operate properly, consult your telephone company for details. 4-B Automatic Security Code Setting Each time you place the handset on the base unit, the unit automatically selects one of more than a million security codes. These codes help prevent the unauthorized use of your telephone line by another cordless telephone user. 4-F FLASH Button Pressing (FLASH/CALL WAIT) allows you to use special features of your host PBX such as transferring an extension call or accessing special telephone services (optional), such as call waiting. Selecting the flash time The flash time depends on your telephone exchange or host PBX. You can select the following flash times: 90, 00, 0, 50, 300, 400, 600, 700 ms (milliseconds), using the handset near the base unit. Your phone comes from the factory set to 700 ms. The TALK indicator light must be off before programming. Press Dialing button (() to (8)) (): 90 ms (): 00 ms (3): 0 ms (4): 50 ms (5): 300 ms (6): 400 ms (7): 600 ms (8): 700 ms AUTO (fl) (FLASH/CALL WAIT). 4-C Temporary Tone Dialing (For Rotary or Pulse Service Users) Press (TONE) before entering access numbers which require tone dialing. The dialing mode changes to tone. You can enter numbers to access an answering service, electronic banking service, etc. When you hang up, the mode will return to pulse. Access numbers entered after pressing (TONE) will not be included when redialing. If 3 beeps sound during programming, the handset is too far from the base unit. Move closer to the base unit or place the handset on the base unit. Start again from the beginning. If the unit is connected via a PBX, PBX functions (transferring a call etc.) might not work correctly. Consult your PBX installer for the correct setting.

7 n 4 5 Things You Should Know Th. e r ers) is se. ength ur u can 0ms omes 5-A Battery Recharge When the RECHARGE indicator flashes or the unit beeps intermittently, place the handset on the base unit to recharge the battery for about 5 hours. If you DO NOT recharge the handset battery for more than 5 minutes, the RECHARGE indicator will continue to flash. Battery information After your Panasonic battery is fully charged: Operation While in use (TALK) While not in use (Standby) The battery operating time may vary depending on usage conditions and ambient temperature. Clean the handset and the base unit charge contacts with a soft, dry cloth once a month. Clean more often if the unit is subject to grease, dust or high humidity. Otherwise the battery may not charge properly. If the battery is fully charged, you do not have to place the handset on the base unit until the RECHARGE indicator flashes. This will maximize the battery life. The battery cannot be overcharged. 5-B Base Unit Location RECHARGE Indicator Calls are transmitted between the base unit and the handset using wireless radio waves. For maximum distance and noise-free operation, the recommended base unit location is: Away from electrical appliances such as a TV or personal computer. Operating time Up to about 6 hours Up to about 4 days In a HIGH and CENTRAL location with no obstructions such as walls. 5-C Battery Replacement If the RECHARGE indicator flashes after being fully charged, replace the battery with a new Panasonic P-P504 battery. Press the notch on the battery cover firmly () and slide it as indicated by the arrow (). Remove 3 Close the old battery. Then install the new one. Insert the battery plug into the connector as shown in the picture. Be sure wires are free from being pressed by the battery body or handset cover. the cover. Make sure you charge the new battery for about 5 hours. 5-D Adding Another Phone This unit will not function during a power failure. To connect a standard telephone on the same line, use a T-adaptor. At the end of its useful life, under various state and local laws, it is illegal to dispose of this battery into your municipal waste stream. 8 Things You Should Know Th 5-E Before Requesting Help he d Problem The unit does not work. An alarm tone sounds. Static, sound cuts in/out, fades. Interference from other electrical units. The handset does not ring. While storing a phone number, the handset starts to ring. You cannot program items such as the dialing mode. You cannot store a phone number in memory. Previously programmed information is erased. Cause and Remedy Check the settings (-C). Charge the battery fully (5-A). Clean the charge contacts and charge again (5-A). Install the battery properly (5-C). Unplug the AC adaptor to reset. Plug in and place the handset on the base unit, then try again. You are too far from the base unit. Move closer and try again. Place the handset on the base unit and try again. Plug in the AC adaptor. Raise the base unit antenna. Locate the handset and the base unit away from other electrical appliances (5-B). Move closer to the base unit. Raise the base unit antenna. Press CH (fi) to select a clearer channel in the talk or speakerphone mode. The ringer volume is set to OFF. Press ( ) or ( ) while the TALK indicator light is off (-B). To answer the call, press ( ) or ( ). The program will be cancelled. Store the number again. Programming is not possible while the unit is in the talk or speakerphone mode. Move closer to the base unit. Do not pause for over 60 seconds while programming. You cannot store a number while the unit is in the talk or speakerphone mode. Do not pause for over 60 seconds while storing. If a power failure occurs, programmed information may be erased. Reprogram if necessary. Problem does not function properly. You cannot redial by pressing. (HANDSET\LOCAT) does not function. The RECHARGE indicator flashes or the handset beeps intermittently. You charged the battery fully, but the RECHARGE indicator flashes. The IN USE/CHARGE/ HOLD indicator light does not go out while charging. You cannot have a conversation using the handset. You cannot have a conversation using the headset. Cause and Remedy The button has a triple function as redial, pause or programming. It will redial the last number dialed if pressed at the outset of a call (-A). If another number has been dialed first, it will operate as a pause button (4-D). If pressed in the standby mode, the unit will enter programming mode. Access numbers entered after pressing (TONE) will not be included when redialing (4-C). If the last number dialed was more than 3 digits long, the number will not be redialed correctly. The handset is too far from the base unit or is engaged in an outside call. Charge the battery fully (5-A). Clean the charge contacts and charge again (5-A). Install a new battery (5-C). This is normal. When the optional headset is connected (-E), you must use the headset to talk with the caller. To have a regular cordless phone conversation, disconnect the headset. Make sure that the optional headset is connected properly (-E). ( ) may have been pressed. If the other party s voice is heard from the speaker, press ( ) to continue the conversation with the headset. 5-F Important Information NOTICE: The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets telecommunications network protective, operational and safety requirements as prescribed in the appropriate Terminal Equipment Technical Requirements document(s). The Department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user s satisfaction. Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations. Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment. Users should ensure, for their own protection, that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas. Caution: Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate electric inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate. NOTICE: The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) assigned to each terminal device provides an indication of the maximum number of terminals allowed to be connected to a telephone interface. The termination on an interface may consist of any combination of devices subject only to the requirement that the sum of the Ringer Equivalence Numbers of all the devices does not exceed 5. The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) of This Unit: (found on the bottom of the unit). If there is any trouble, disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect a known working phone. If the known working phone operates properly, have your unit repaired by one of the specified authorized Panasonic Factory Servicentres.
