Read and understand all instructions. 2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on this unit. 3. Unplug this unit from power outlets before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 4. Do not use this unit near water, for example near a bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, etc. 5. Place the unit securely on a stable surface. Serious damage and/or injury may result if the unit falls. 6. Do not cover slots and openings on the unit. They are provided for ventilation and protection against overheating. Never place the unit near radiators, or in a place where proper ventilation is not provided. 7. Use only the power source marked on the unit. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied to your home, consult your dealer or local power company. 8. Do not place objects on the power cord. Install the unit where no one can step or trip on the cord. 9. Do not overload power outlets and extension cords. This can result in the risk of fire or electric shock. 10. Never push any objects through slots in this unit. This may result in the risk of fire or electric shock. Never spill any liquid on the unit. 11. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this unit. Take the unit to an authorized service center when service is required. Opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltages or other risks. Incorrect reassembly can cause electric shock when the unit is subsequently used. 12. L Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations. Ensure that the AC outlet is installed near the unit and is easily accessible. Battery To reduce the risk of fire or injury to persons, read and follow these instructions. L Use only the battery(ies) specified. L Do not dispose of the battery(ies) in a fire. They may explode. Check with local waste management codes for special disposal instructions. L Do not open or mutilate the battery(ies). Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause burns or injury to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed. L Exercise care when handling the battery(ies). Do not allow conductive materials such as rings, bracelets or keys to touch the battery(ies), otherwise a short circuit may cause the battery(ies) and/or the conductive material to overheat and cause burns. L Charge the battery(ies) provided with or identified for use with this product only in accordance with the instructions and limitations specified in this manual. the unit in health care facilities if any regulations posted in the area instruct you not to do so. For maximum distance and noise-free operation, we recommend the following: L Placing the unit away from electrical appliances such as a TV, personal computer or another cordless phone. L Placing the base unit in a HIGH and CENTRAL location with no obstructions such as walls. L Raising the antenna vertically. L If you use the handset near a microwave oven which is being used, noise may be heard. Move away from the microwave oven and closer to the base unit. L If you use the handset near another cordless phone s base unit, noise may be heard. Move away from the other cordless phone s base unit and closer to your base unit. L The maximum calling distance may be shortened when the unit is used in the following places: Near obstacles such as hills, tunnels, undergrounds, near metal objects such as wire fences, etc. L Operating near 2.4 GHz electrical appliances may cause interference. Move away from the electrical appliances. Routine care L Wipe the outer surface of the unit with a soft cloth. Do not use benzine, thinner or any abrasive powder. Environment L Keep the unit away from electrical noise generating devices, such as fluorescent lamps and motors. L The unit should be kept free from excessive smoke, dust, high temperature and vibration. L The unit should not be exposed to direct sunlight. L Do not place heavy objects on top of the unit. L When you leave the unit unused for a long period of time, unplug this unit from power outlet. L The unit should be kept away from heat sources such as heaters, kitchen stoves, etc. It should not be placed in rooms where the temperature is less than 5 C (41 F) or greater than 40 C (104 F). Damp basements should also be avoided. 6

To power outlet (120 V AC, 60 Hz) AC adaptor Hooks L Use only the included Panasonic AC adaptor PQLV19. L The AC adaptor must remain connected at all times. (It is normal for the adaptor to feel warm during use.) L The AC adaptor should be connected to a vertically oriented or floor-mounted AC outlet. Do not connect the AC adaptor to a ceiling-mounted AC outlet, as the weight of the adaptor may cause it to become disconnected. L The unit will not work during a power failure. We recommend connecting a standard telephone to the same telephone line or to the same telephone jack using a T-adaptor. 7

8 TG2411C(e).book Page 8 Wednesday, January 26, :10 PM Preparation If you subscribe to an xdsl service L Please attach a noise filter (contact your xdsl provider) to the telephone line between the base unit and the telephone line jack when noise is heard during conversations. L The unit will beep once and the CHARGE indicator will light. Battery performance After your Panasonic battery is fully charged, you can expect the following performance: Operation Operating time While in use Up to 5 hours (talking) While not in use Up to 11 days (standby) *1 While using the Up to 3 hours clarity booster feature (page 14) *1 Handset is off the base unit but not in use. CHARGE indicator L To ensure the battery charges properly, clean the charge contacts of the handset and base unit with a soft, dry cloth once a month. Clean more often if the unit is subject to grease, dust, or high humidity. Recharging the battery Recharge the battery when the RECHARGE indicator flashes or the handset beeps intermittently while it is in use. L Battery power is consumed whenever the handset is off the base unit, even when the handset is not in use. The longer you leave the handset off the base unit, the shorter you can actually talk on the handset. Actual battery performance depends on a combination of how often the handset is in use and how often it is not in use. L Once the battery is fully charged, you do not have to charge it again until the RECHARGE indicator flashes. This will maximize the battery life. RECHARGE indicator L Recharge the handset battery for more than 15 minutes. 9

10 TG2411C(e).book Page 10 Wednesday, January 26, :10 PM Preparation Battery replacement If battery performance diminishes, make sure you have cleaned the charge contacts and fully charged the battery. The battery needs to be replaced if the RECHARGE indicator flashes after a few telephone calls. L Use only the rechargeable Panasonic battery noted on page 3. 1 Press the notch on the cover firmly and slide it as indicated by the arrow. L While on a call, you can switch from the receiver to the speakerphone by pressing {s}. To switch back to the receiver, press {C}. To adjust the speaker volume 6 levels (high to low) are available. While using the speaker, press {V} or {^} repeatedly. To redial the last number dialed 1 Press {C} or {s}. 2 Press {REDIAL}. 1 Lift the handset and press {C}. L The TALK indicator will light. 2 Dial the phone number. 3 When finished talking, press {OFF} or place the handset on the base unit. L The TALK indicator will go out. To adjust the receiver volume 3 levels (high/medium/low) are available. While using the receiver, press {V} or {^} repeatedly. To use the speakerphone 1 Lift the handset and press {s}. L The TALK indicator will light. 2 Dial the phone number. 3 When the other party answers, speak into the microphone. 4 When finished talking, press {OFF} or place the handset on the base unit. L The TALK indicator will go out. L Talk alternately with the caller in a quiet room. 12

13 TG2411C(e).book Page 13 Wednesday, January 26, :10 PM Making/Answering Calls Answering calls When a call is being received, the ringer indicator on the handset and the IN USE indicator on the base unit flash rapidly. 1 If the handset is off the base unit, press {C} or {s}. L You can also answer a call by pressing any button except {V}, {^}, {<}, {>}, or {OFF}. (Any key talk feature) OR If the handset is on the base unit, just lift up. 2 When finished talking, press {OFF} or place the handset on the base unit. Temporary ringer off While the handset is ringing for an outside call, you can turn the ringer off temporarily by pressing {OFF}. The handset will ring the next time a call is received. Useful features during a call HOLD button This feature allows you to put an outside call on hold. Press {HOLD} during an outside call. L The TALK indicator will flash. L To return to the call, press {C} or {s}. L If another phone is connected on the same line (page 7), you can also take the call by lifting its handset. L If a call is kept on hold for more than 6 minutes, an alarm tone will start to sound and the ringer indicator will flash rapidly. After 4 additional minutes on hold, the call will be disconnected. MUTE button You can mute your voice during a conversation. While mute is turned on you will be able to hear the other party, but the other party will not be able to hear you. To mute your voice, press {MUTE}. L To return to the conversation, press {MUTE}, {C}, or {s}. Voice enhancer This feature clarifies the voice of the person you are talking to, reproducing a more natural-sounding voice that is easier to hear and understand. 1 Press {VE} during an outside call. 2 To turn this feature on or off, press {VE} again. L When turned on, the VE indicator will light. 13

14 TG2411C(e).book Page 14 Wednesday, January 26, :10 PM Making/Answering Calls L Once you turn voice enhancer on, it will be activated for all outside calls until turned off. L Depending on the condition and quality of your telephone line, this feature may emphasize existing line noise. If it becomes difficult to hear, turn this feature off. FLASH button Pressing {FLASH} allows you to use special features of your host PBX such as transferring an extension call, or accessing optional telephone services such as Call Waiting. For Call Waiting service users To use Call Waiting, you must subscribe to your telephone company s Call Waiting service. This feature allows you to receive calls while you are already talking on the phone. If you receive a call while on the phone, you will hear a Call Waiting tone. Press {CALL WAIT} to answer the 2nd call. L The 1st call is put on hold while you answer the 2nd call. L To switch between calls, press {CALL WAIT}. L The dialing mode will return to pulse when you hang up. Clarity booster This feature can improve sound clarity when the handset is used in an area where there may be interference. During an outside call, this feature will be turned on automatically when necessary. This feature will turn off when you hang up or put a call on hold. It will not turn off automatically during a call. L While this feature is turned on, battery operating time will be shortened (page 9). L Please contact your telephone company for details and availability of this service in your area. Temporary tone dialing (for rotary/pulse service users) You can temporarily switch the dialing mode to tone when you need to access touch tone services (for example, answering services, telephone banking services, etc.). Press {*} (TONE) before entering access numbers which require tone dialing. 14

IN USE indicator {HANDSET LOCATOR} 1 Base unit: Press {HANDSET LOCATOR} to page the handset. L The IN USE indicator will flash rapidly. L The handset will beep for 1 minute. 2 Base unit: To stop paging, press {HANDSET LOCATOR}. OR Handset: To stop paging, press {OFF}. 15

16 TG2411C(e).book Page 16 Wednesday, January 26, :10 PM Speed Dialer Speed dialer The handset speed dialer allows you to make calls without having to dial manually. You can assign one phone number to each of the 10 dial keys ({0} to {9}). L To exit programming, press {OFF} at any time. L If a phone number is stored in a dial key which already contains a phone number, the old number will be erased. L We recommend you make a note of which phone numbers are stored in which dial keys. {PROG} Dial keys PROG indicator {AUTO} PAUSE button (for PBX/long distance service users) A pause is sometimes required when making calls using a PBX or long distance service. For example, if you need to dial the line access number 9 with a PBX: In step 2, press {9}, {PAUSE}, then enter the phone number. {PAUSE} Storing phone numbers in memory Important: L Before storing phone numbers, make sure the PROG indicator is off. 1 Press {PROG}. L The PROG indicator will flash. 2 Enter the phone number (max. 32 digits). L If a pause is required for dialing, press {PAUSE} where needed. L If you misdial, press {PROG} or {OFF} and repeat from step 1. 3 Press {AUTO}. 4 Press a dial key ({0} to {9}). L The handset will beep. L To store other phone numbers, repeat from step 1. L A 3.5 second pause is inserted each time {PAUSE} is pressed. Press repeatedly to insert longer pauses. To erase a stored phone number 1 Press {PROG}. 2 Press {AUTO}. 3 Press the desired dial key ({0} to {9}). L The handset will beep. Dialing with the speed dialer 1 Press {C} or {s}. 2 Press {AUTO}. 3 Press the desired dial key ({0} to {9}). L The stored phone number will be dialed. 16

The handset must be operated near the base unit and while off the base unit. Handset ringer volume 4 levels (high/medium/low/off) are available. The default setting is HIGH. To select high, medium, or low 1 Press {V} or {^} repeatedly to select the desired volume. 2 Press {PROG} or {OFF}. To turn the ringer off Press and hold {V} until the handset beeps 2 times. To turn the ringer on, press {^}. L The handset will ring at the low level when paged by the base unit. Handset ringer tone You can change the ringer tone heard when an outside call is received. There are 3 tones and 4 melodies. The default setting is TONE 1. 1 Press {V} or {^}. 2 Press {<} or {>} repeatedly to select the desired setting. L You can also select the ringer tone by pressing {1} to {7}. {1} to {3}: Tones {4} to {7}: Melodies 3 Press {PROG} or {OFF}. L If you subscribe to a distinctive ring service, select a tone (Tone 1 to 3). If you select a melody, you will not be able to distinguish lines by their ringers. L If you select one of the melody ringer patterns, the ringer will continue to sound for several seconds if: the caller hangs up before you answer the call. another person answers the call using another phone connected on the same line. 17

The handset must be operated near the base unit and while off the base unit. Dialing mode If you cannot make calls, change this setting depending on your telephone line service. TONE (default): For tone dial service. PULSE: For rotary pulse dial service. 1 Press {PROG}, {MUTE}, then press {8}. L The PROG indicator will flash. 1 Base unit: Press and hold {HANDSET LOCATOR} until the CHARGE indicator flashes. L After the CHARGE indicator starts flashing, the rest of the procedure must be completed within 1 minute. 2 Handset: Press and hold {FLASH} until the VE indicator flashes. Then wait until the handset beeps. L Registration is complete. L To exit programming, press {OFF} at any time. 2 To select PULSE, press {1}. OR To select TONE, press {2}. 3 Press {PROG}. L The handset will beep. L To exit programming, press {OFF} at any time. Re-registering the handset If an alarm tone sounds when you press {C}, {s}, or {PROG} even when the handset is near the base unit, you may need to re-register the handset to the base unit. Important: L Make sure the base unit is not being used. L Have the handset and base unit near each other when re-registering the handset. 18

Fasten the AC adaptor cord. Hooks To power outlet 2 Connect the telephone line cord. Mount the unit, then slide it down. L Raise the antenna. 19

20 TG2411C(e).book Page 20 Wednesday, January 26, :10 PM Useful Information Troubleshooting General use Problem The unit does not work. An alarm tone sounds when you press {C}, {s}, or {PROG}. I cannot hear a dial tone. {FLASH} does not work properly. Cause & solution L Make sure that the battery is installed correctly (page 8). L Check the connections (page 7). L Fully charge the battery (page 9). L Clean the charge contacts and charge again (page 9). L Unplug the base unit s AC adaptor to reset the unit. Reconnect the adaptor and try again. L Re-install the battery (page 8) and fully charge it. L The handset is too far from the base unit. Move closer and try again. L Plug in the base unit s AC adaptor. L Raise the base unit antenna. L If the above remedies do not solve the problem, the handset may have lost communication with the base unit. Register the handset again (page 18). L Confirm that the telephone line cord is connected (page 7). L Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the working telephone does not operate properly, contact your telephone company. L Set the flash time. Press {PROG}, {MUTE}, {9}, and {8}, then press {PROG} again. Programmable settings Problem I cannot program items. While programming, the handset starts to ring. Cause & solution L Programming is not possible while the handset is being used. L Do not pause for over 1 minute while programming. L Move closer to the base unit. L A call is being received. Answer the call and start again from the beginning after hanging up. 20

21 TG2411C(e).book Page 21 Wednesday, January 26, :10 PM Useful Information Making/answering calls, paging Problem Static is heard, sound cuts in and out. Interference from other electrical units. The handset does not ring. I cannot make a call. I cannot redial by pressing {REDIAL}. I cannot make long distance calls. I cannot page the handset. Cause & solution L Move the handset and the base unit away from other electrical appliances. L Move closer to the base unit. L Raise the base unit antenna. L If your unit is connected to a telephone line with xdsl service, we recommend connecting a noise filter between the base unit and the telephone line jack. Contact your xdsl provider for details. L The ringer volume is turned off. Adjust it (page 17). L The dialing mode may be set incorrectly. Set the dial mode (page 18) to match the type of telephone service you have (tone or pulse). L If the last number dialed was more than 48 digits long, the number will not be redialed correctly. L If you press {REDIAL} after you have started dialing, this button functions as the {PAUSE} button. To redial, do not dial any numbers before pressing {REDIAL}. L Make sure that you have long distance service. L The called handset is too far from the base unit. L The called handset is in use. Try again later. 21

22 TG2411C(e).book Page 22 Wednesday, January 26, :10 PM Useful Information Battery recharge Problem The RECHARGE indicator flashes or the handset beeps intermittently. I charged the battery fully, but the RECHARGE indicator continues to flash. The CHARGE indicator does not go out after the battery has been charged. Cause & solution L Fully charge the battery (page 9). L Clean the charge contacts and charge again (page 9). L The battery may need to be replaced (page 10). If you install a new battery, fully charge it (page 9). L This is normal. Power failure Problem The unit will not function. Cause & solution L This product is not designed to make calls in the event of a power failure. We recommend connecting a standard telephone to the same telephone line in the event that emergency calls need to be made during a power failure (page 7). 22

This is confirmed by the registration number. The abbreviation, IC:, before the registration number signifies that registration was performed based on a Declaration of Conformity indicating that Industry Canada technical specifications were met. It does not imply that Industry Canada approved the equipment. And, the term IC: signifies that Industry Canada radio technical specifications were met. Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations. Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment. Users should ensure, for their own protection, that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas. Caution: Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate electric inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate. NOTICE: The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) assigned to each terminal device provides an indication of the maximum number of terminals allowed to be connected to a telephone interface. The termination on an interface may consist of any combination of devices subject only to the requirement that the sum of the Ringer Equivalence Numbers of all the devices does not exceed 5. The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) of This Unit: (found on the bottom of the unit). NOTICE: Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device.
