3 INSTRUCTION MANUAL Getting Started This section explains how to ensure your CSL Signal Analyser is in a position in which it is ready to use. 1. POWERING YOUR DEVICE Before using the Signal Analyser ensure the battery is fully charged using the Micro USB port on the top of the device (this typically takes 3 hours). Once power is connected the device will turn on. Insert Micro USB 1.1 AERIAL Connect the aerial to the top of the Signal Analyser. A SMA to MMCX connector is also provided to enable you to measure the the signal strength for an area that an aerial is already sited. Screw the SMA connector into the top of the device and push the MMCX to the end of the existing aerial. Twist to fit 2

4 1.2 FITTING A SIM For 2G and 3G versions a SIM is only needed if you wish to perform signal surveys for a single network or when a GPRS data packet test is required. For 4G a SIM is only required when preforming a GPRS data packet test. Where multiple network surveys are required you do not need to insert a SIM. Ensure your device is powered down, remove the protective cover and locate the SIM compartment on the bottom of your Signal Analyser. To remove the SIM holder, use a pen to depress the release button before detaching. Insert your SIM to the holder and replace until it is locked in position. 5 2. Performing a survey Quick Guide This section explains how to perform a survey to give local base stations information. 2.1 STARTING A SURVEY 1. Ensure the survey option is highlighted on the LCD screen and press 2. If shown choose from either: All, 2G/GSM, 3G/UMTS, 4G/LTE by pressing the or arrows then press (available options are dependant on device purchased) 3. Wait 2-3 minutes 4. Press the arrow to reveal your results 2.2 RESULTS Results will differ depending on the version purchased. 3G and 4G devices will show the best networks, top cells and individual cell information. 2G devices will only show the individual cell information. 1. push down to view results 2. Push or to cycle through the results 3. For 2G version press down to exit 4. For 3G/4G version press down this will take you to all survey results then press to exit Note: For best results place the signal analyser in the exact location your hardware will be installed 3. Base station details: 2G This section explains how to understand the base station details presented when performing a survey on a 2G Signal Analyser. Bit error rate The bit error rate (BER) explains the signal quality and amount of lost data (Good/Bad) Signal strength Each base station will give the signal strength available at the present time in that location. This is shown as a percentage reading (ie 45%) RESULTS Band Shows the frequency in which the mobile operator is broadcasting Base Stn:3 SIG:45% BAND 1800 BER:Good Network: VODAFONE UK =View =EXIT Network The mobile operator will be displayed here 4

6 3.1 Base station details: 3G This section explains how to understand the base station details presented when performing a survey on a 3G Signal Analyser. Signal strength Technology The technology will be displayed as either (2G/GSM, 3G/UMTS) Each base station will give the signal strength available at the present time in that location. 7 4. Performing a standard GPRS test This section explains how to perform a standard GPRS test in order to check that data can be passed through the network. 4.1 PERFORM A STANDARD GPRS TEST 1. For the 2G version press until you highlight GPRS test and press and push again 2. For 3G/4G versions press until you highlight Options and press then press until you highlight GPRS test and press 3. Press to start the GPRS test 4.2 GPRS TEST FAILURE Should your GPRS test fail please follow Section 5 to change APNs Note: All GPRS tests require a SIM to be fitted to the device. The SIM must be live but the test will not use any credit/allowance 5. Changing APNs This section explains how to change an APN setting before performing a GPRS test. 5.1 ENABLE ENGINEER MODE 1. Press until you highlight setup and press 2. Press until you highlight mode: surveyor and press until mode: engineer is shown 3. Press until you highlight Exit/Save and press 5.2 CHANGE APN 1. For the 2G version the APN is fixed to Internet 2. For 3G/4G versions press until you highlight Options and press press until you highlight GPRS test and press. You are able to select the APN by pressing until the correct details are shown 3. Repeat the GPRS test process with 6
