Extract My first point is that it is far easier than ever before to work out the cheapest and most cost efficient choice in using a smartphone. For the last few years, mobile phone providers have been forced to compete in a fast moving market for the consumer dollar. Their prices for texting, for example, have dropped enormously. Unlimited texts is part of almost every phone deal. Teenagers are happy texters, with great dexterity and technological know-how, they can use it well. They have therefore led the charge to demand better prices and deals. People, especially young people, have learned how to make the most of their smartphone plans or pre-paid services. As a result, these devices have become an essential part of 21st century living. Now that young people know how to maximise the cost savings, they are therefore giving benefits to human kind into the future. This brings me to my second point, the huge benefits of being able to transfer money wherever we are, whenever we want to, easily, quickly and cheaply. Transferring money via mobile phones is fast becoming the norm in many corners of the developing world. Extract The first speaker of the affirmative side has tried to tell us that smartphones are getting cheaper. This is clearly wrong. Five years ago, the cost of a top of the range handset, say a Sony Ericsson, was around $700. Today, a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 costs around $900. How can you say smartphones are getting cheaper? The first speaker also tried to tell us that young people are shaping the market to their advantage, that the companies have made services cheaper. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sure we can get free text messaging but the cost of a one-minute phone call can be anything up to $3.00. If you re stuck somewhere and need our parents or loved ones to help, what do we absolutely need to do? Text or call? Call them, obviously. How long does it take a person over the age of 25 to see or reply to a text message? It could be a day, maybe more! Many of us here today have been burned at some point for getting into a plan or pre-paid service that was just too expensive to manage. It is just far too difficult for most people to work out the cheapest and most efficient choice of pre-paid and plan services for smartphones. Making a smart choice for smartphone is totally bewildering and overwhelming.
