Information continues to be the currency of today's global economy and industry. Economic success is directly related to how well information is created, managed, stored, retrieved, transferred, and protected. The BTech - Informatics and Security (IFS) program delivers the Information Technology education and skills necessary to protect data and the surrounding infrastructures through which it moves. Our faculty, staff and industry advisors have worked diligently over the past five years to ensure the academic and service commitments made to our students are honoured throughout the program. The first cohort ofstudents graduated in spring of2010 and has been very successful in finding employment in the information security industry. Seneca's School of Information and Communications Technology (formerly School of Computer Studies) has a longstanding reputation for delivering high quality graduates from the diploma, d.g.." und graduate certificate programs. 3 SECTION 1: Program Abstract As a profession, information security requires both a thorough grounding in network and operating system technology and an understanding of the social, cultural, and legal implications of security and privacy practices in information management. To prepare graduates for successful careers in information technology administration and security, the Bachelor of Technology (Informatics and Security) meets these needs with a combination of theory and practice, emphasizing hands-on learning in real-world situations enhanced by an investigative internship and co-op work experience. This four year degree program integrates knowledge of informatics, security, and law with practical applications, and directly addresses critical business and communication requirements deemed essential by employers. Throughout the curriculum, focus is placed on achieving the degree and program-level learning outcomes. Areas of study include: information security needs within and between organizations analysis, design, and implementation of distributed computer systems using current methodologies a broad understanding of data communication principles, knowledge of operating systems and how each of the components that make up the infrastructure can be compromised an understanding and ability to design, develop, and implement secure information acquisition, transmission, and storage and retrieval practices with current industry standards, taking into account privacy, security and ethical issues technology change and innovation analysis of project and system requirements deployment of security on a variety of platforms project planning, implementation and management research methodology technology planning and acquisition 1
