5 . New in this release 5 This is the first issue of this document, Nortel Unified Communications Campus Solution Release Notes (NN ) for Release 1.0. Because this is the first issue, all of the issues described in this document are new.

These components set the initial baseline for the solution. For information on upgrading specific products, see the Upgrade policy (page 11). 9 . Introduction 9 The Release Notes (NN ) describes important configuration issues and limitations for your UC Campus Solution. These release notes highlight solution-level issues that may affect your network. They are not intended to replace the release notes that came with the individual components that make up the solution. For the latest product information, see the release notes that come with the individual components.

11 . Upgrade policy 11 Nortel validated the UC Campus Solution with a specific software load lineup using current releases of software. This lineup provided stable interoperability of products at the time of release of UC Campus Solution. However, post release, individual product elements will undergo minor updates or upgrades. This section provides guidance on how to benefit from periodic software changes while still maintaining the overall integrity of the solution. In general, do not upgrade products to the next as that moves the solution outside the boundaries of validation undertaken for the solution. Major product upgrades will be validated in a new software lineup for UC Campus, at which point a new load lineup will be published. Details on individual products are provided later in this section. In contrast to the above, you can update or patch products within UC Campus to the next minor software release. This allows you to take advantage of bug fixes as they become available, though as noted below, upgrading some products in the solution requires some precautions.

12 12 Upgrade policy Precautions for specified products The following products provide the essential forwarding of traffic in the UC Campus network. Therefore, do not update to the x level in the table below unless it is absolutely necessary to resolve a well-defined issue as determined by Nortel support. Use the information in this section to learn more about known issues and, where appropriate, use the workarounds provided. 16 16 Configuration considerations Important information and restrictions This section contains important information and restrictions that you should consider before you install and configure UC Campus Release 1.0. Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 High Availability mode UC Campus does not support high availability (HA) mode on the ERS 8600 core and distribution switches. HA mode is disabled by default, and it has no impact on the network. In the UC Campus Solution, the SMLT ERS 8600 switch cluster provides resiliency and availability, without HA mode enabled. RSMLT holdup-timer RSMLT is configured on all Edge VLANs. This change, however, affects only the RSMLT holdup timer for the Routing VLAN that connects between the ERS 8600 Core and Distribution switches. In an RSMLT environment, if an IST peer is powered off for durations longer than the RSMLT holdup-timer setting, you may experience a traffic loss for up to 40 seconds when the IST peer comes back up online. In summary, this only occurs if the IST peer is powered off for greater than 180 seconds using the default RSMLT holdup-timer. Nortel recommends using one of the following workarounds to avoid this condition: Power up the IST peer during a maintenance period. Configure the RSMLT holdup timer to infinity on the online IST peer, and then power up the offline IST peer. When the SMLT cluster stabilizes, reconfigure the RSMLT holdup timer back to the default setting of 180 seconds. CPU reset Following a reset of an active CPU, an outage from 3-20 seconds may result.

17 Survivable Media Gateway (SMG) 17 Nortel Multimedia Conferencing (NMC) NMC connection to Live Meeting The Nortel Multimedia Conferencing (NMC) domain name is case sensitive, and it must match the Primary Domain Controller (PDC) name. If the PDC name is in lowercase, make sure you configure the NMC domain name in lowercase. Survivable Media Gateway (SMG) Resiliency for SMG locations UC Campus provides customers with an architecture designed to provide flexibility to meet varying customer requirements for security and resiliency. The SMG provides customers with the option to enhance their solution s overall resiliency, but in so doing they need to be aware that some network services may not perform at the same level as when the entire network is available. The following figure illustrates the basic UC Campus environment with and without an SMG, and the table after the figure identifies service level differences. Customers may achieve greater availability at the satellite building through deployment of additional services in the satellite building; however, these configurations should be custom-engineered as they were not validated as part of UC Campus.

19 Locate Locate911 UC Campus and Emergency Response ATTENTION Emergency service laws and regulations for services such as 911, 999, and 112 vary greatly depending on your geographical location. You must clearly understand all local legislation and capabilities before you set up an emergency services solution. UC Campus provides a robust foundation for comprehensive emergency response in the campus environment. UC Campus provides these services through features inherent in Nortel s Communication Server 1000E HA and IP telephones and etelemetry s Locate911-N. In using this foundation, network architects should take into consideration both customer-specific requirements for the performance of this service and local regulatory requirements. In addition, network architects should be aware of the following behaviors of the UC Campus solution. Relocation (or power-down/power-up) of a telephone will result in the set losing its Emergency Response Location (ERL). Upon reconnecting to the network, the time for the telephone to be rediscovered and provided its ERL information will vary based on network size and complexity and the current state of the Locate911-N application. Time-to-discovery can range from a few minutes to 30 minutes For telephones associated with Survivable Media Gateways (SMG), if the local area network to the primary CS 1000E HA is lost, the telephones will re-register on SMG. At this point, the location information for the SMG telephones will be the default ESA Data Block. When services are re-established to the primary CS 1000E HA, telephones will re-register on the primary CS 1000E HA. For the purposes of ERL information, the telephones will need to be rediscovered by the Locate911-N application. Time-to-discovery can range from a few minutes to 30 minutes. In the event of a full restart of both Core 0 and Core 1 of CS 1000E HA, all telephones will need to be rediscovered by the Locate911-N application. Time-to-discovery can range from a few minutes to 30 minutes. In addition to the above, readers of this document should refer to Nortel Communication Server Emergency Services Access Fundamentals (NN ) and etelemetry s product documentation.

20 20 Configuration considerations Locate911 Emergency Notification System (LENS) In order to ensure that Locate911 Emergency Notification System (LENS) agent alerts are not delayed, it is critical that the etelemetry appliance has a proper DNS configuration. If testing shows alerts are delayed, refer to the etelemetry documentation to configure the DNS through the front panel of the etelemetry appliance. Communication Server 1000 LTPS failover election list Failure to follow these steps will result in the PD/CL/RL node being incorrectly included in the list used to elect a failover LTPS. Should the Lead LTPS fail, this may result in no LTPS being available and loss of voice services. Figure 2 PD/CL/RL Node and Configuration When configuring the PD/CL/RL node, make sure the Enable Line TPS box is unchecked and the Enable IP Peer Gateway (Virtual Trunk TPS) field is set to None as shown in the following figure.

21 Converged Office 21 Converged Office Instant messaging If two Converged Office users experience problems using the Office Communicator client, ensure that the Address Book has been synchronized on the clients.

22 22 Configuration considerations Known limitations This section lists known limitations with some component features in the UC Campus Solution. There are no plans to fix these CRs as they are classified as operational or function as designed. CR reference Product Description Q ERS 4500 and ERS 5500 When clients are no longer connected, the ERS 4500 and 5500 switches do not remove their NSNA entries from the NSNA Client Table. For example, if an NSNA port link goes down or if you remove a client from an NSNA port, you will still see their NSNA entries in the table when you enter the show nsna client command. Q and Q ERS 4500 and ERS 5500 Workaround: Manually disable and then enable the link on the NSNA port. Replacing a switch in a stack can affect some phones not attached to the swapped switch, and it may result in data loss. Similar data losses may also be seen when powering up a switch in a horizontal stack switch cluster. Delays of up to 40 seconds may be experienced. Workaround: If at all possible, replace the switch during a maintenance period. Q CS 1000 The Communication Server 1000 allows you to configure non-t87a phone sets on a MARP TN in a Multiple Appearance DN (MADN) environment. This causes intermittent call failures from the OCS client. Workaround: Use the out command to remove the definition of all the sets in the MADN, and configure T87A CLS only on the MARP TN extension. Q ERS 5500 When measuring the Broadcast Rate Limit, note that the rate limiting feature displays a calculation based on packets rather than octets. To obtain the actual value, use the following equation (the average packet size is 500 bytes): ( Line speed (bit/sec)/ Average packet size x 8 ) X (Rate Limit/100) = Packets per second

23 Converged Office 23 Known documentation issues This section contains known issues with published documentation for products included in the UC Campus Solution. This information will be added to the product documentation in the next release. CR reference Product Description Q CallPilot If Application Builder (Appbuilder) is on Vista, CallPilot requires SP1. If you do not have SP1 installed, you cannot connect to a server and the following error message appears: Could not retrieve LDAP Com class id. Q CS 1000 Inbound Mobile X calls to Direct Inward System Access (DISA) DN do not provide a dial tone unless you configure the DTR unit with a Tone and Digit Switch (TDS) loop for an appropriate cabinet. Q CS 1000 Apply the Boss/Secretary Filtering Enhancement (BSFE) feature to Mobile X by using one of the following configurations. If the mobile user (boss) does not have an office desktop phone, configure the Busy Forward Status (BFS) key on the secretary s telephone with the mobile user s UEXT TN. In this configuration, the secretary can activate and deactivate call filtering for the mobile user (boss) and transfer an incoming call to the boss. If the mobile user (boss) has an office desktop phone, configure the BFS key on the secretary s phone with the boss desktop TN. In this configuration, the boss can use both the mobile and desktop phones. The boss desktop telephone can have a BFS key (with secretary s desktop TN) and all BSFE features that are controlled from the boss desktop phone are available.
