7 . Introduction 7 The Nortel Unified Communications (UC) Campus Solution combines many products and features to deliver an environment capable of supporting voice, data, and unified communications. This document provides a sample installation and commissioning sequence of components within the UC Campus Solution. It also lists documents that support the installation and commissioning of those individual components. 13 . Installation and commissioning sequence 13 Installation and commissioning is the systematic process used to deploy components and perform minimal, but essential, configuration steps. This provides a default starting point to further configure, set up a management interface, and establish basic security on the solution. Installing a network the size of the UC Campus Solution is a complex undertaking requiring careful planning and detailed project management. This chapter describes the appropriate preparation and illustrates the installation and commissioning sequence of UC Campus Solution components for a greenfield installation. Telephony services specification Build all services specification from the Data network IP, VLAN, and usernames. Installation and commissioning sequence The following diagram is an example of a roadmap for building a UC Campus network from the ground up. However, each user situation needs to accommodate unique environmental factors. The final installation plan will be based on these factors and input from all project stakeholders. Note the following prerequisites: Before installing the CS 1000E, the Ethernet and basic routing for NAS must be installed. Installation of Active Directory (AD), Domain Name Service (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Certificate Authority (CA), Structured Query Language (SQL), and the CS 1000E must be complete before installing Converged Office, OCS, and Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging.

ERS 5500 series (5520 or 5530 models) is one of two switch options for the Edge stacks, the other option being the ERS 4500 series; the other option is the ERS 4500 series. 29 Nortel Communication Server 1000E Installation and commissioning sequence 29 The Nortel Communication Server 1000E (CS 1000E) is a server-based, full-featured IP Public Branch Exchange (PBX). It is distributed over IP infrastructure with built-in reliability and survivability. CS 1000E provides features to support business-critical applications, including unified messaging, customer contact center, and IP phones providing a virtual office. The base CS 1000E configuration for UC Campus uses the CS 1000 high availability (HA) configuration with multiple media gateways, multiple signaling servers and multiple PRI gateways. In addition to providing additional resilience at select locations, UC Campus defines the addition of one or more optional Survivable Media Gateways (SMG) within the campus network. 35 Installation and commissioning sequence 35 E911 etelemetry Locate911-for Nortel (Locate911-N) is a VoIP asset tracking appliance that automatically detects 911 calls and alerts personnel as soon as a call is placed. Locate911-N provides the caller s name, room, and building information for accurate emergency response.
