5 2. FTTH Training Programme 2.1. Purpose This document broadly defines the learning outcomes that Network Planners and Network Designers need to achieve in order to gain the skills and certification required for carrying out the following activities on their national FTTH Network: Planning tasks for FTTH network infrastructure and equipment. Design tasks for FTTH network infrastructure and equipment. Business process workflows, inventory and records management, and reporting procedures for network augmentation. Health and safety and quality assurance considerations Prerequisites The National Telecommunications Qualification provides basic knowledge and skills for effectively and safely working on Telecommunications Networks. It is assumed that telecommunication companies undertaking a planning and design training programme will have basic telecommunications training, assessment, and certification programmes that align to the statutory requirements of their local National Telecommunications Qualification. Planning and Design people not holding a relevant National Telecommunications Qualification and specific knowledge of FTTH may undertake the Learning Modules described in this Training Programme in order to gain a general appreciation of FTTH knowledge and skill areas. However, it is unlikely that they will be able to gain the full FTTH Council APAC Certification Scope The scope of activity is defined as covering network planning and design tasks from the Central Office through to the Customer premises. The scope of activity does not include network build, commissioning, fault troubleshooting and restoration, network operation, or network testing. January 2015 Page 5

Training and Certification Planning and Design staff shall successfully undertake and complete a relevant nationally recognised training programme, assessment, and certification prior to gaining overall FTTH Council APAC Programme Certification. The training programme, assessment and certification will be based on the module most closely aligned to each person s area of work activity e.g. Planning and/or Design. The training, assessment and certification must be managed by a local professional and nationally accredited trainer. FTTH Council APAC Programme Certification will be valid for three years. Planning and Design staff shall undertake refresher training on a three-yearly basis in order to maintain this Programme Certification Categories Each Module is allocated one of the following three categories: Fundamental: Learn knowledge and practical skills via lecture and practical demonstration. Apply knowledge and practical skills in a classroom/laboratory environment. Intermediate: Practical application and assessment of knowledge and skills in a local production (live) network environment. Advanced: Practical application of knowledge and skills in a range of: production (live) network environments, and; design and job management environments January 2015 Page 6
