1 SAFETY MARKING REQUIREMENTS Nemko-CCL Marks Introduction Currently the Nemko North American Safety Certification Program services for the United States and Canada are being offered as a combination of OSHA/NRTL services and Canada/SCC services from Nemko-CCL, Inc., known as the Certification Body. The certification marks detailed in this document may only be authorized for use by the Certification Body. Once Nemko-CCL has certified a product and authorized use of a mark, the manufacturer will be able to apply one of the following certification marks: C US (The C is the indicator denoting compliance to the Canadian standard) (The US is the indicator denoting compliance to the US standard) Note: additional information is required on the product label. See sections 4 and 5 of this document. If the product is only certified for the Canadian or US market only the corresponding indicator shall be applied. The detailed requirements for the use of the Certification Body mark are contained in the following sections. This document does not authorize the application of the respective Certification Body mark to be applied to any products. A drawing of the product label with the Certification Body mark is required to be approved by Nemko-CCL prior to applying the product label to the products. NF-007 Issue 7 Sep 2015 Page 1 of 6

2 Marking requirements 1 Markings Required SAFETY MARKING REQUIREMENTS 1.1 When certification of the product has been granted, there shall be a marking applied to the product to indicate compliance with the Certification Body requirements regarding Electrical Safety listing. The marking shall be in the form as outlined below. Under no circumstance shall a product bearing the mark be released from the factory prior to authorization from the Certification Body. 2 General Conditions 2.1 The following descriptions only address the Certification Body mark. They do not address the additional markings that may be required by the specific safety standard, i.e. safety warnings and/or other informational markings. 3 Format of the Markings 3.1 The Certification Body mark is usually added to the certificate holder's marking medium. 3.2 The mark may be any size provided it is legible to the unaided eye. Generally this shall not be less than 5mm in height. Where space limitations prevent the use of the mark at the minimum size, requests to use the mark of smaller dimension will be considered by Nemko-CCL on the basis of legibility. 3.3 An optional NRTL" indicator may be provided adjacent the Nemko-CCL mark. 3.4 The C is the indicator denoting compliance to the Canadian standard. This indicator is mandatory to designate Canadian Certification and is to be placed at the eight o clock position. 3.5 The US is the indicator denoting compliance to the US standard. This indicator is mandatory to designate US Certification and is to be placed at the four o clock position. NF-007 Issue 7 Sep 2015 Page 2 of 6

3 4 Information Other Than the Mark SAFETY MARKING REQUIREMENTS 4.1 In addition to the mark the following information must appear on the product. Where individually applied labels are used, this information shall appear on the same label as the mark unless otherwise specified. This information must be applied to the product at the factory or factories on record with the Certification Body Model number or model name** Date of manufacture, serial number or date code traceable to month and year of manufacture** The applicants name and/or Nemko customer number for identification purpose (Nemko customer number will be assigned by Nemko if desired for identification) Reference to the Standard the product was tested to. The term Electrical Safety can be used for Canadian Certification if desired. ** - May appear on the product either on a separate label or imprinted on the enclosure 5 Sample Labeling 5.1 The following illustrations indicate how the marking requirements may be met for the respective Certification Body Listings. Other options may be accepted upon approval by the Certification Body. 6 6 Conditions and Limitations: SAFETY MARKING REQUIREMENTS 6.1 The mark is a registered mark and may only be used under the conditions agreed upon. 6.2 When misuse of the mark occurs, the respective Certification Body will consider the following action: For products in-production and in-stock: require removal of the mark, or require that the product be changed to comply with the Certification Body s requirements For products already shipped: require their recall for either removal of the mark, or for reworking to make them comply with the Certification Body s requirements A public disclosure and/or legal action to take place. 6.3 These actions are necessary and will not be overlooked for the protection and integrity of the mark. 6.4 The Certification Body reserves the rights to suspend the use of the mark when there has been misuse until corrective action has taken place, and may cancel a certification agreement upon written notice. 6.5 The following are types of misuse which constitute misuse of the mark: Applying the mark to the product without the Certification Body s written authorization Applying the mark to products where changes needed to meet certification requirements have not been made Applying the mark to products where required tests have not been completed Unauthorized use of the mark through mail, catalogues, printing material, and any such advertising implying that products are certified when the product is not, or misrepresentation of the extent of the certification Incomplete certification marking Improper form of the mark Improper method of marking Improper location of the marking on the product.
