3 The government has been supportive of the development of quality of the community products. The Standards for Community Products Project has been established by the Ministry of Industry. Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) has been assigned by the Ministry of Industry. TISI : The national standards body of Thailand. 3 Standards for Community Products Project The objective of the Standards for Community Products project is to upgrade quality of the community products in terms of standards setting and certification for community products in response to the government policy on One Tambon One Product Project. The aim is to ensure acceptance of quality assurance for consumers and providing linkage for products of the community to consumers both domestic and abroad. 4 2

The requirements are suitable for the community product and agreed by all parties concerned. * The standard is easy to use and corresponds with the production in the community. 6 3

5 Why we develop Standards for Community Product To develop the quality of community products to achieve certification. To promote marketing of products for wide acceptance. To focus on sustainable development and quality upgrade for community products and to ensure standards compliance. 7 Process of Standards Development 1. Select products for which to establish standards 2. Draft standards, by TISI staffs 3. Call for meetings of all parties concerned to complete details of the drafts 4. Organize workshop/ seminars to gather comments on the drafts The workshop consists of 3 parties (producer, consumer, technical expert) 8 4

11 Community Products Certification Certify products which is according to Standards for community product Surveillance After receiving certification, manufacturers must maintain quality in conformity with Standards. Process of Community Products Certification Summit application Inspection Sampling and testing CPS Certification Evaluate test report Extension/Renewal (every 3 years) Surveillance At least once a year 10

12 Obtaining Community Products Certification Manufacturing premises must pass assessment and products must meet requirements of Standards for Community Product Certification is valid for 3 years from the date given on the certificate Extension or renewal of certificate will be processed as new application 21 11

16 Surveillance After receiving certification, manufacturers must maintain quality in conformity with the Community Product Standard, on which surveillance will be conducted by TISI staffs. At least once a year

19 Developing Local Manufacturers Where manufacturers may have problems in manufacturing products to the standards, TISI sends experts to train and advise at the production premises until they are capable and ready to apply for certification. 35 Promotion and Public Relations TISI promotes public awareness on community product standards by PR through various media and creates incentives for embracing certified community products. Consumers consequently develop a good image of them as quality products on par with those under brand names
