2 National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP) A GI certification for individuals that reflects industry standards. Validates that candidates possess the foundational knowledge that supports proper job task performance for GI construction, inspection, and maintenance workers. Eligibility is high school diploma/ged and 35 hours GI training in construction, inspection, and maintenance. A nationwide credential that is portable across the US. Program is built in accordance with the ANSI accreditation guidelines for certifying individuals. Green Roof on DC Water s Fort Reno Reservoir 2

3 NGICP 2018 National Roll-out The benefits of becoming NGICP certified: National certification creates a long-term pathway for living wage jobs across the United States. National certification promotes GI as an environmental and economical strategy for stormwater management. National certification supports the development of proficient green workforces. Exposure to employers looking to hire skilled GI workers through the NGICP Certification Database 3

4 NGICP 2018 National Roll-out Developed with DC Water over a two-year pilot Program currently has 14 additional municipal partners. 214 individuals have been certified to-date. 14 NGICP approved trainers 4

5 NGICP 2018 National Roll-out Program Objectives Increase the number of NGICP partners, sponsors, & allies; Increase the number of NGICP approved trainers and their ability to provide exam trainings; and Increase the number of NGICP certificants. 5

6 Become an NGICP approved Trainer NGICP approved trainers can meet the certification training needs of NGICP partners and training sites. Trainers can also develop their own licensed, training program. NGICP approved trainers must possess 2 of the following 3 qualifications: Minimum of a bachelor of science degree in water resource management or environmental science Minimum 35 hours of experience as a trainer for handson, adult learning courses Direct experience in stormwater green infrastructure (GI) construction, inspection, or maintenance 6

7 Serve as a Training and Testing Site WEF will establish relationships with institutions and nonprofits able to serve as NGICP training centers that would conduct the NGICP exam trainings and exams at regular intervals throughout the year. The exam trainings and exams could be conducted separately, or in sequence, depending on your capacity. This is an entrepreneurial component with the potential for training revenue to the provider. Trainers drive exams. 7

Work with Partners Workshop Fee: $1500 Duration: 2.5 days Rock Creek Site Visit, UDC Train-the-Trainer Training License: $7500 (good for up to 5 trainers, renewed ever 2 years) 9

10 Serve as Exam Proctors Exam Proctors Proctors ensure exam security. Proctors serve as the main contacts who maintain the chain-of-custody for the exams. WEF will recruit proctors to assist partners and testing sites that need one (or more depending on the test community size). All proctors must participate in an virtual training. 10

11 Take the Certification Exam The NGICP exam will be administered on the following dates: Friday, March 23, 2018 Friday, May 4, 2018 Friday, June 15, 2018 Friday, September 28, 2018 (timed with WEFTEC) Friday, November 16, 2018 Friday, January 25, 2019 The fee for the NGICP exam is $200. WEF will be providing a combined NGICP training and exam on March 19-23, Registration: Registration opens on February 14, Location: Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe Street, Alexandria, VA Combined Fee: $700 (lunch included) 11
