Oracle Communications Network Integrity Release Notes Release 7.1 E October 2012 This document provides release notes for Oracle Communications Network Integrity. This document consists of the following sections: New Features Fixes in This Release Known s Deprecated Features Documentation Updates See Oracle Communications Design Studio Release Notes for the release notes for the Network Integrity feature of Design Studio. See Network Integrity License Document for license and dependency information for Network Integrity components and cartridges. New Features The new features in this release of Network Integrity are: Cartridge for Optical Circuit Assimilation Cartridge for MSS Integration Cartridge for TL1 Update to Cartridge for Optical TMF814 CORBA Extended Oracle Communications Information Model Support Event Notification Cartridge for Optical Circuit Assimilation The Optical Circuit Assimilation cartridge allows Network Integrity to assimilate end-to-end circuits that traverse through your synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) networks. The cartridge uses topological link and cross-connect information from various input sources to trace end-to-end circuits. See Network Integrity Optical Circuit Assimilation Cartridge Guide for more information. The Cartridge for Optical Circuit Assimilation is an independently licensed component of Network Integrity. 1
Cartridge for MSS Integration The MSS Integration reference cartridge allows Network Integrity to integrate with Oracle Communications MetaSolv Solution (MSS). This cartridge allows Network Integrity to import inventory data (equipment and optical circuits) from MSS, to compare the imported data with discovered network data to identify equipment and circuit discrepancies, and to resolve discrepancies in MSS from Network Integrity. See Network Integrity MSS Integration Cartridge Guide for more information. See Network Integrity Installation Guide for MSS software support information. The Cartridge for MSS Integration is an independently licensed component of Network Integrity. Cartridge for TL1 As an abstract cartridge, Design Studio must be used to configure and assemble the cartridge against target systems. The TL1 cartridge allows you to quickly and reliably build deployable cartridges that enable Network Integrity to discover and model physical and logical entities from transaction language 1 (TL1) devices. The TL1 cartridge ZIP file includes a reference implementation cartridge for interacting with Cisco ONS TL1 devices. You can use this reference implementation as a model for your own cartridge project. See Network Integrity TL1 Cartridge Guide for more information. The Cartridge for TL1 is an independently licensed component of Network Integrity. Update to Cartridge for Optical TMF814 CORBA The Optical TMF814 CORBA cartridge is updated to support the Optical Model for Network Integrity, allowing its scan discovery results to be used by the Circuit Assimilation cartridge for optical circuit assimilation. See Network Integrity Optical TMF814 CORBA Cartridge Guide for more information. The Optical TMF814 CORBA cartridge is an independently licensed component of Network Integrity. Extended Oracle Communications Information Model Support Network Integrity extends support to the following Information Model entity categories: Custom Network Address Entities Place Entities Network Entities Connectivity Entities Service Entities Telephone Number Entities Network Integrity adds support to additional Information Model entities in the following entity categories: Physical Resource Entities 2
Logical Resource Entities Custom Object Entities Information Model Patterns Network Integrity extends support to the following Information Model patterns: Consumer Pattern Inventory Group Pattern Network Relationship Pattern Place Relationship Pattern Role Pattern Event Notification Network Integrity records event notification messages to a Java messaging (JMS) topic. You can create a message-driven bean (MDB) or JMS client that listens to the event notification messages to trigger follow-on actions. See Network Integrity Developer s Guide for more information. Fixes in This Release This section lists the fixed issues for this release of Network Integrity: Bug Number Component Notes CARTRIDGE (Optical TMF814 CORBA) Discover TMF814 scan results are properly populated when the Managed Element Name Qualifier field is set to either Ends With or Ends With Ignore Case GUI Scalability and performance are improved. Root entities that include in excess of 6500 child entities load more quickly on the Tree Table page GUI Both Network Integrity and Business Intelligence Publisher (BI Publisher) can be open at the same time on separate tabs of the same Microsoft Internet Explorer browser window without one logging out the other GUI On the Create Scan or Edit Scan page, parameter group values and settings are retained when you switch to other parameter groups. N/A DOC Step 7 of the sample Web service installation chapter (chapter 3) in the Network Integrity UIM Web Service Guide correctly lists all the necessary JAR files. N/A DOC All instances of the term DeviceInterfaceConfiguration have been corrected to DeviceInterfaceConfigurationItem for the following cartridge guides: Network Integrity MIB-II SNMP Cartridge Guide Network Integrity MIB-II UIM Cartridge Guide Network Integrity Cisco Router and Switch SNMP Cartridge Guide Network Integrity Cisco Router and Switch UIM Integration Cartridge Guide 3
Known s This section lists the known issues in this release of Network Integrity: Bug Number Component Notes CARTRIDGE UPDATE UIM WS TO HANDLE A CARD THAT OCCUPIES 2 SLOTS The NI to UIM Web service does not take into account that Equipment can be modeled in UIM to occupy multiple EquipmentHolders. In these cases, the Web service operations treat the child of each EquipmentHolder as having a unique Equipment. This results in Network Integrity behaving as if two unique Equipments exist, when only one does. This is a theoretical issue because, in order to use NI, you must model Equipment specifications in UIM in accordance with how Network Integrity discovers a device. When executing Cisco SNMP discovery, if an Equipment instance occupies two EquipmentHolders, and this is not discoverable, the device reports that an Equipment instance occupies one EquipmentHolder. The other EquipmentHolder shows as empty, even though the Equipment physically occupies two EquipmentHolders. To modify discovery and modeling so that the true representation is rendered, custom handling is required in the cartridges and the Web service operations CARTRIDGE MIB-II and CISCO cartridges programmatically generate an Id value for all entities. For interfaces, the Id value is generated with the following syntax: MgmtIPAddress:: sysname::ifdescr::"mediainterface" ERX routers with SONET interfaces/subinterface do not have a unique value for ifdescr. Therefore, the Id being generated is not unique. When resolution with UIM is attempted, Network Integrity fails to populate an interface when the id is not unique, and UIM reports that the id is already occupied. You can add a new processor to the end of the discovery chain and programmatically walk the Logical Tree. You can then override the id field to ensure uniqueness. The override should ensure that the Id is unique and that generation is repeatable when discovering the same device tree. 4
Bug Number Component Notes CARTRIDGE (File Transfer and Parsing) CARTRIDGE (File Transfer and Parsing) When Network Integrity is deployed in a clustered environment with multiple clustered nodes configured, the File Transfer Adapter may throw the following exception: javax.transaction.xa.xaexception: This XAResource does not support TMJOIN. This exception interrupts and restarts any in-progress scans. The restarted scan will complete successfully. The exception traces are written to the log file. This exception causes scans to take longer to complete, because scans are restarted. When a Scan Action is configured to use the File Transfer processor where the Source File Management is set to Rename or Delete, the scan status of a running scan may change from Running to Completed, even though there are other processes still running. This is because Network Integrity incorrectly changes the scan status to complete after the processor has finished its processing and modeling, and not after renaming or deleting the intended file. This problem can be noticed if the remote file operation must delete or rename a large number of files, or with a slow network connection. Failures of the remote file rename or delete operation are not reported in the UI CARTRIDGE In this release, the SNMP MIB-II, Cisco Router and Switch, and File Transfer and Parsing cartridges, which are separately licensed, include components that reside, and are deployed, as part of the base Network Integrity installation. The following processors in Design Studio can be used only if they are licensed from Oracle. Cartridge for SNMP MIB-II or Cisco Router and Switch: SNMP Processor Cartridge for File Transfer and Parsing: File Transfer Processor File Parser Processor Obtain the required license from Oracle ENGINE DELETION OF SCANS AND SCAN RESULTS SLOWS DOWN AS THE SIZE OF THE DATABASE INCREASES Deletion of scan profiles or results is slow when the Network Integrity database is extremely large (approximately 1.3 Terabytes of tablespace; 4 billion entities/rows of discovered data). 5
Bug Number Component Notes ENGINE ONLY ONE CONFIGURABLE WEB SERVICE POLICY The following policy is the one that Network Integrity currently supports: Wssp Https-UsernameToken-Plain.xml. This is the only Web Service policy currently configurable in Network Integrity. Find the Web service policy (Wssp Https-UsernameToken-Plain.xml) at the following location: WL_HOME/wlserver_10.3/server/lib/wseeclient.jar ENGINE GUI FAILS TO REPORT "CORRECT IN UIM" FAILURE If a "Correct in UIM" fails due to a session time-out, no error message is displayed GUI DEPLOYED CARTRIDGES NOT APPEARING IN GUI Occasionally, deployed cartridges do not appear in the Network Integrity UI and you cannot create scans from them. Restart the Network Integrity server GUI USING IE 8 OR FF 3.5 USER NOT ABLE TO TYPE THE FILE PATH IN IMPORT ADDRESS DIALOG Using Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 3.5: when creating or editing a scan, it is not possible to type the path of the network address in the Import Address File dialog box. The Import Address File dialog box is opened by clicking on the Import button on the Scope tab. Type the Network Address in the View field on the Scope tab, or open the Import Address File dialog box by clicking on the Import button, and browse to the location of a file that contains the Network Address GUI NI LOGIN PAGE DOES NOT OPEN PROPERLY WHEN THE USER LOGS IN AFTER SESSION TIMEOUT NI Manage Scans page does not display properly on re-login after session time out in Internet Explorer. Refresh your browser if you are using Internet Explorer, or use Firefox. 6
Bug Number Component Notes GUI NO SCROLL BARS OR TEXT WRAPPING ON SCOPE TAB TO VIEW LONG NETWORK ADDRESSES You are not able to view the entire network address on the Scope tab of Create, Edit Configuration and Configuration Details pages, when the address exceeds the length of the Network Address field GUI HELP SCROLL BAR DOES NOT APPEAR WHEN INCREASING THE COLUMN WIDTH By default, the HelpAbout popup shows the complete information of all columns displayed. Changing column width might result in information disappearing off the screen and becoming inaccessible. Do not increase or decrease the Help window column width GUI INVALID FILE PATH IN IMPORT ADDRESS FILE POPUP HANGS THE BROWSER IN IE7 In Internet Explorer 7.0, entering an invalid path in the Import Address File pop-up causes Network Integrity to hang. Use the Browse button to upload a file. You can also use Internet Explorer 8.0 or Firefox GUI HOVER DETAILS ARE SOMETIMES OUT OF SYNC IN SUBMIT RESOLUTION POPUP TABLE In some cases, when you move the mouse quickly from cell to cell, the mouse-over details display the previous cell data. Make sure to hover the mouse correctly over the column cell and wait a few seconds for the correct hover details to appear GUI SOME UI ELEMENTS NOT LOCALIZABLE Tooltips for entity details, configuration details, and Create Scan pages, and SNMP and UIM UI parameter labels cannot be localized. These tooltips currently display in English only. 7
Bug Number Component Notes GUI SCROLL BARS NOT APPEARING CORRECTLY 1. In the Create Configuration page, scroll bars do not appear for tags in tables if the tags are very long (more than 100 characters). 2. You cannot see the scroll bar for a scope list if the window size has been reduced below a minimum size. 1. The tooltip displays the tag name. 2. Do not reduce the screen size below the minimum. GUI USING FF 3.6 DISCREPANCY CORRECTIVE ACTION REPORT TRUNCATES WHEN FILTERING APPLIED When viewing the Discrepancy Corrective Action Report using Firefox , the report is truncated when the data is filtered with the Priority criteria. This is a problem with Firefox. Use Firefox or Internet Explorer INSTALL UNINSTALLER PROBLEM WHEN WEBLOGIC USER CHANGES During uninstallation, the wizard does not request a WebLogic userid. If WebLogic administrative credentials have changed since the installation of Network Integrity, the uninstallation does not remove the WebLogic configuration. No error message is displayed or written to the logs. You must manually remove the WebLogic configuration after Network Integrity uninstallation INSTALL WEBLOGIC EXCEPTIONS WHEN INSTALLER TRIES TO STOP MANAGED SERVER When WebLogic Server is shut down using the Force Shutdown Now option in the Administrator Console, the log shows errors. These errors do not affect Network Integrity start and stop behavior. Issue a graceful shutdown command from WebLogic Console or by calling stop-server scripts located in the respective WebLogic server domain INSTALL SILENT INSTALLER REPORTS INSTALLATION AS SUCCESSFUL EVEN IN CASE OF ERRORS Network Integrity installer, when used in silent mode, always ends with a successful install message, even if it fails or errors appear in the installer log file. Check the installer log file for errors to determine the success of the install. If there are errors, redo the installation. 8
Bug Number Component Notes REPORTS COSMETIC ISSUE WITH DEVICES IN THE DISCREPANCY DETECTION DETAIL REPORT The report columns names are slightly different in the Network Integrity GUI and BI Publisher. Deprecated Features In alignment with Oracle's stated technology direction, the next major release of Network Integrity after 7.1 intends to deprecate support for JRockit. It is recommended to use Sun HotSpot for Network Integrity 7.1 deployments. Documentation Updates This section lists new documentation in this release of Network Integrity. Cartridge Guides The following guides are included in this release of Network Integrity to support cartridge functionality: Network Integrity TL1 Cartridge Guide Network Integrity Optical Circuit Assimilation Cartridge Guide Network Integrity MSS Integration Cartridge Guide These cartridge guides are bundled with their respective cartridges on the Oracle software delivery Web site: Security Guide The Network Integrity Security Guide provides guidelines and recommendations for setting up Network Integrity and its components in a secure configuration. Security management, such as managing user accounts and password policies, is documented in Network Integrity System Administrator s Guide. Upgrading Network Integrity A new chapter in Network Integrity Installation Guide explains how to upgrade your Network Integrity system and how to install patches on Network Integrity. Fully Accessible The Network Integrity documentation suite is fully accessible. See "Documentation Accessibility" for more information about Oracle s commitment to accessibility. 9
