Major Teaching Responsibility Jan present, Assistant Professor Developed New Course: SE 492/592 Special Topics: Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, South Dakota State University, USA. Contribution: Developed 3 simulation study labs for Special Topics - Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing. This was a brand new course I developed at South Dakota State University. I have focused on two components in this class: theoretical wireless network knowledge delivery to students; and extensive computer simulation studies. I had the students get extensive experience in state-of-the-art Network Simulator 2 (NS-2), one of the most powerful tools in wireless computer networking study. Course: SE 440 Embedded Systems, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, South Dakota State University, USA. Contribution: Developed 6 Gumstix-Linux embedded system based course projects and 4 robot based labs. Taught students fundamental knowledge of embedded system programming, especially high quality software design with resource limitation. Undergraduate research was also uniquely emphasized to boost the motivation of students in studying computer systems. Developed New Course: SE 492/592 Special Topics: High Quality Software Development, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, South Dakota State University, USA. Contribution: Developed 5 new labs for high quality software development, including advanced memory management, Dynamic Link Library (DLL), and Component Object Model (COM); with an emphasis on software quality, software performance and software security. This was a brand new course I developed at South Dakota State University. Course: SE 330 Human Factors and User Interfaces, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, South Dakota State University, USA. Contribution: Developed 10 new labs for Human Factors and User Interface. Delivered the fundamental knowledge of user interface design as the baseline requirement, highlighted realworld hands-on experience of user interface design. Students were trained with the capability of developing commercial software user interface in a professional way. Helped EECS in Redesigning Course: GE 101 Introduction to Engineering and Technology, Co-taught with other professors. College of Engineering, South Dakota State University, USA. 6
7 Contribution: Developed 6 hands-on robot based labs for GE 101 Introduction to Engineering and Technology. This was a co-taught class with significant course redesign. The goal was to improve the students motivation and engagement in engineering, especially in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Software Engineering. I developed 6 robotics hands-on labs for this course, and instructed this course throughout the lab session.
