Hooking up imixg3 Tieline for Remote Broadcasts - NEVER USE A PHONE LINE YOU WILL CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE IMIXG3 1. HOW TO TELL IF THE IMIXG3 IS SET UP FOR DHCP OR STATIC IP 2. HOW TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET USING A HARD-WIRED ETHERNET CONNECTION WITH DHCP (MOST COMMON METHOD) 3. HOW TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET USING A HARD-WIRED ETHERNET CONNECTION WITH A STATIC IP 4. USING THE TELUS SMART HUB, WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO CONNECT VIA 3G PHONE TECHNOLOGY (WIRELESSLY). 5. HOW TO ENSURE THE ETHERNET PORT IS ACTIVE WITH A LAPTOP USING WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM 6. VARIOUS IP ADDRESSES & NOTES 1

1. HOW TO SET UP THE IMIXG3 UP FOR DHCP OR STATIC IP The imixg3 is usually set up for DHCP although it can be set up for Static IP. You will generally use DHCP unless you have been assigned a Static IP Address, a subnet mask and a default gateway. If you are having connection problems, you can follow these steps to see what the imixg3 is currently set to use, and if necessary, change it. - Plug the AC Adaptor into the power outlet - Plug the XLR into the power XLR port on the back of the imixg3 - Plug an Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the back of the imixg3 - Plug the other end into the active or assigned Ethernet port - Press the Menu button below the screen on the imixg3 - Scroll down using the Black Selector Knob to Configuration - Scroll down to Advanced Menu - Scroll down to LAN Settings - Scroll down to IP Setup - You will see a small arrow on the left of the screen pointing to Static IP or DHCP. - Either leave it alone or Scroll to the one you want, and press ENTER - Then press the CLEAR button to back out to the top of the menu. Now that you have picked either Static or DHCP, you can choose how you want to connect the imixg3 to the internet. 2

2. HOW TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET USING A HARD-WIRED ETHERNET CONNECTION WITH DHCP - MOST COMMON METHOD This is a method that might be used from a venue that has a Rogers or Bell internet connection; commonly associated with a venue that is outside Western University or other campus. If you haven t been assigned a Static IP Address, a subnet mask and a default gateway you should be connecting with DHCP rather than Static IP. - Plug the AC Adaptor into the power outlet - Plug the XLR into the power XLR port on the back of the imixg3. - Plug an Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the back of the imixg3 - Plug the other end into an Ethernet port - Wait 20 seconds - Scroll down using the Large Black Selector knob to IP 1 - After 20 seconds or less, the IP 1 selection should read ENTER # - This means the imixg3 has been able to see an IP address. - If you see Unavailable it means the imixg3 is not able to see an IP address; check the cables - With the Selector Knob highlighting IP 1 and ENTER # - Press ENTER - You will see the last IP address dialed, which will probably be the IP address of the on-air studio (if you want you can enter in a new IP address, but you shouldn t unless the IP address above is wrong) again and the imixg3 should be showing that you are connecting at this point. - As the imixg3 and the G3 Commander (at the studio) link up, you will see LXX/RXX numbers show up and increase. Once they read L99/R99 the connection is 100%. The L refers to Local and the R refers to Remote the Local end being the imixg3, the Remote end being the Commander G3. If you have numbers lower than L79/R79 you may experience dropouts in audio. 3

3. HOW TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET USING A HARD-WIRED ETHERNET CONNECTION WITH A STATIC IP This will only work if you have been assigned a Static IP Address, a subnet mask and a default gateway. It is commonly used when you are broadcasting from one University campus to another. - If you see Unavailable it means the imixg3 is not able to see an IP address; check the cables - With the Selector Knob highlighting IP 1 and ENTER # - Press ENTER - You will see the last IP address dialed, which will probably be the IP address of the on-air studio (if you want you can enter in a new IP address, but you shouldn t unless the IP address above is wrong again and the imixg3 should be showing that you are connecting at this point. 4

4. USING THE TELUS SMART HUB, WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO CONNECT VIA 3G PHONE TECHNOLOGY (WIRELESSLY). The Telus Smart Hub is basically a cell-phone in a box so this method comes with the limitation that you would associated with a cell-phone...ie dropped calls, poor reception etc... This is a method that might be used from a venue from where a hard-wired internet connection is not possible. It is a BACKUP method and whenever possible it should be used as a last resort. Having said that, it has worked well from a number of campus venues. To connect to the internet with it: - Plug the Telus Smart Hub AC adaptor into the power cord. - Connect it to the Telus Smart Hub - Connect an Ethernet cable to the Telus Smart Hub - Plug the other end into the LAN connection on the back of the imixg3 - Wait for 2 minutes as the Telus Smart Hub calls and connects to the internet - When the small light on the 3G+ symbol stays lit, it means it has been able to connect to the Internet - Scroll down using the Large Black Selector knob to IP 1 - After 20 seconds or less, the IP 1 selection should read ENTER # - This means the imixg3 has been able to see an IP address. 5

5. HOW TO ENSURE THE ETHERNET PORT IS ACTIVE WITH A LAPTOP USING WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM 1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the laptop and the other into the port. 2. Go to the Start Button, click on it and click on the Run Button 3. Type cmd into the run line and click on OK. A box will appear in a moment. 4. Type ping (this is the IP address of the Commander G3 in the on-air studio - if this is now a different IP Address, use that IP Address) into the line and wait for a moment. 5. If you get something like the message below, then the line is working but something is wrong with the imixg3 (assuming you ve tried the imixg3 first and you are checking the line with the laptop). It can also mean that the line is working, and you have typed the IP Address in properly but the IP Address has been assigned to some piece of equipment that is not the Commander G3. This is rare and should not happen - if you think this is happening tell the CHRW News, Sports and Spoken Word Director immediately and they will get in touch with the Station Manager or the IT Manager. Microsoft Windows XP [Version ] (C) Copyright Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\chrw-gm>ping Pinging with 32 bytes of data: Ping statistics for : Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms 6. If you get the response Request timed out it can mean:: a. the line or port is not configured properly (call the appropriate IT Department) b. the cable is broken or not working (try a different cable) c. the IP Address you typed in is wrong (verify it and make sure it is correct) 6
