2 Summary: This use case addresses, within the Real Time Pricing (RTP) context, the provisioning of the Home Energy Management System (HEM) with the Smart Meter and the Smart Grid Dispatch System (SGD) and the Programmable Communicating Thermostat (PCT) with the HEM. Narrative: This use case discusses how a customer can provision a Home Area Network (HAN) Device to their HEM and provision a HEM to the Smart Meter. Once the HAN Device is provisioned to the HEM, the HEM will recognize it and send the device information to the Smart Grid Dispatch System (SGD) for use in future activities. The customer installs a new HAN Device, e.g. Programmable Communicating Thermostat (PCT) for use by the HEM. The HEM recognizes the device and sends the devices registration information to the SGD via the Internet. With coordination with the utility, the customer powers on the HEM and it begins the provisioning process with the ESI (part of the Smart Meter). Once completed, the ESI sends the information on through to the DR Application via NIC (part of the Smart Meter) and the AMI Network. The HEM sends a registration request to SGD, SGD then sends an initial time synchronization and test messages back to the HEM via the broadband interface, that indicates the HEM registration with the SGD has been received and processed. 4 Actor(s): The list of the actors and the roles that are participating in this use case described in the table below. Name CIS DR Application ESI HAN Device HEM NIC PCT SGD Role description System of record for customer data and billing. The Demand Response Application, which serves as a repository and engine for creating prices, load control events, and text messages. It utilizes the AMI Head-End system and AMI Network as a pass through transport. 5 Participating Business Functions: The participating business function, its acronym and what they provide in this use case are detailed in the table below. HEM Acronym Business Function/Abstract Component Services or Information Provided Home Energy Management system. A logical or physical device typically located at the customer facility that acts as a home electricity control center. AS known as Customer EMS. The HEM provides the customer profile, demand curve, and the premise energy usage (unverified). CIS Customer data and billing system Publishes changes to customer accounts, customer agreements, pricing, service location to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). CIS also issues End Device Control messages such as the On Demand Request. SGD AMI Smart Grid Dispatch System. The central system for Real-Time (customer) pricing. Advanced Metering Infrastructure foe energy monitoring and recording, load control capability, tariff/rate data collection. System that computes the Real-Time (customer) price signal for smart grid operations. Energy monitoring and control, configuration of advanced meters, offers new rate programs, distribution automation, Meter Readings, Meter Events and Alarms. Assumptions / Design Considerations: Standard Common IEC Message Definition format should be followed to provide the Header, Request, Reply, and Payload used when defining the messages for the design specifications. For the purpose of the use cases identified in this document these have been omited as they are to be provided in the design specification for the HAN Device Binding use cases. This use case assumes: a) the HEM must join and register with the Smart Meter ESI HAN; b) the HEM contain ESI functionality separate from the Smart Meter s ESI and the PCT must join & register to the HEM ESI HAN (which is separate from the Smart Meter ESI HAN); c) DR Application and SGD are informed of HEM provisioning Page 5 of 12 Copyright 2011 American Electric Power Company Rev. 4
6 Normal Sequence: The sequences of events, showing the order in which they ocurr during the typical progression of this use case are provided in the table below. The Sequence Diagram that graphically depicts the events is presented immediately following the table. S1: A Customer Service Representative initiates a Remote Meter Connect request via CIS. 9 Integration Scenarios: Adapters will use the Common Information Model (CIM) in Extensible Markup Language (XML) to send and receive messages and events. The following are the points of integration that must be tested for this use case. Other non-cim message interfaces may be testable in this use case. 10 Pre-conditions: The following conditions that MUST be met before this use case can occur. Customer s Smart Meter must be registered with the AMI Head-End systems and functioning fully on the AMI network. The Smart Meter record must be created in CIS Customer has requested and be approved for inclusion in the RTP program and CIS and SGD notified of that approved RTP enrollment request The HEM Device type and provisioning information must be imported into the DR Application. A Provisioning request must be pushed down to the Smart Meter ESI thus allowing a window of oppurtunity for the HEM to begin the DR HAN Device Provisioning Use Case. Post-conditions: The following events or actions that may happen after or be caused by the completion of the normal use case events, as well as the exceptions or alternative sequences are: If DR Application, CIS are aware of the HEM being online, and SGD aware that the HEM and its associated PCT are online and the HEM is receiving status and time-based metering information from the Smart Meter. Exceptions / Alternate Sequences: There are no exceptions, unusual events or alternate sequences defined for this use case. Use Case Step Triggering Event Description Of Process Information To Be Exchanged Producer Receiver Message Type Message Type(s) Diagram: The following XML Schema Definition (XSD) diagram shows the normative and informative parts of the message. Not all of the International Electrotechnical Commission s (IEC) CIM message optional elements must or will be used in the use of IEC CIM for this specific use case.
