3 Introduction ERMES allows the local and remote control and programming of the instruments of the series MAX5, MTOWER, LDPHXX and WDxxxx. The connection possibilities include the following media: GSM, GPRS or ETHERNET. Different types of instruments can be connected to each other on a local network with a maximum of 30 instruments through RS485 protocol. Note: Only one USB or ETHERNET module or GSM/GPRS MODEM needs to be installed to manage (locally and remotely) all the instruments installed on the same network. ATTENTION: The configuration procedure must be completed by assigning a univocal ID (identification number) and on the first and last instrument of the network the termination jumper must be closed on the main card. For these operations, read the documentation attached to each single instrument. All instruments will use module property to connect in local or remote to PC-ERMES. E.g.: 3 instruments. first instrument with USB module, second instrument with ETHERNET and last instrument with GPRS module. All instruments connect to PC-ERMES via LAN or GPRS or USB. 3

4 Configuration A - RS485/GPRS This type of configuration allows the creation of a network of MAX5, MTOWER, LDPHXX and WDXXXX instruments (up to a maximum of 30 units) for remote control via internet using a GPRS modem on an instrument belonging to the network itself. The connection between the various instruments is made through the RS485 serial protocol. The RS485 output of the last or only instrument on the network can be connected to the RS485 - USB converter even to connect to a local PC. ATTENTION: The configuration procedure must be completed by assigning a univocal ID (identification number) to each instrument and the first and last instrument of the network the termination jumper on the main card must be closed. For these operations, read the documentation attached to each single instrument. SUMMARIZED PROCEDURE FOR A CONFIGURATION OF RS485 / GPRS HARDWARE 1. Connect the instruments on the network (if more than one) by means of RS485 cable 2. Insert into the GSM/GPRS modem, on the network instrument, a SIM enabled for DATA traffic with an APN (Access Point Name) 3. Configure the modem of the instrument with the APN parameters of the SIM (APN on MANUAL ) or in auto-configuration mode (APN on AUTOMATIC ) 4. Assign a univocal ID to each instrument from the configuration menu (see instrument manual) 5. 5 Configuration A - RS485 / GPRS Complete the hardware configuration by inserting the DATA SIM as shown in the figure. Make sure the SIM is enabled for data traffic on APN. If the connection is successful, when you turn the instrument ON again, a signal status bar will appear on the MAX5 / MTOWER / LDPHXX instrument display INSTALL THE EXTERNAL ANTENNA WHEN INSTRUMENT IS DISCONNECTED FROM POWER SUPPLY. POSITION THE EXTERNAL ANTENNA IN A SPOT WHERE THE GSM SIGNAL IS MAXIMUM. 6 Configuration B - RS485 / ETHERNET This type of configuration allows the creation of a network of MAX5, MTOWER and LDPHXX instruments (up to a maximum of 30 units) for local and remote control via internet using an ETHERNET connection on an existing network. The connection between the various instruments is made through the RS485 serial protocol. The configuration of the ethernet module on board an instrument is automatic (active DHCP). In case of particular needs, you can manually enter a static IP address. ATTENTION: The configuration procedure must be completed by assigning a univocal ID (identification number) to each instrument and on the first and last instrument of the network the termination jumper on the main card must be closed. For these operations, see the documentation attached to each single instrument. SUMMARIZED PROCEDURE FOR B CONFIGURATION OF RS485 / ETHERNET HARDWARE 1. Connect the instruments to the network (if more than one) by means of an RS485 cable 2. Connect an ETHERNET cable to the instrument with the ETHERNET module on board and connect it to a switch / router / ethernet port 3. Assign a univocal ID to each instrument connected by RS485 from the configuration menu (see instrument manual) 4. Make sure the PC for remote management has an active internet connection 5. Within ERMES WEB add instrument/s by entering CODE NUMBER (instrument s SERVICE menu) 6. If a PROXY SERVER is installed on local lan please contact your network administrator for security permissions and assure that internet traffic on port TCP 2020 is allowed MAX5 / MTOWER Termination JUMPER PC with COMMUNICATION SOFTWARE LDPHxx PC with COMMUNICATION SOFTWARE ROUTER with DSL MODEM SWITCH Termination JUMPER INSTRUMENT with ETHERNET module 6

7 Troubleshooting Problem Possible solution Check best signal coverage for operator choice. Modem is compatible with the following GSM frequencies: MHz (three-band). Not compatible with 3G only operators. What to do before to install the SIM into instrument s modem SIM type is: Mini-SIM (classica SIM card in uso nei telefoni) Lenght 25 (mm) - Width 15 (mm) - thickness 0,76 (mm) Subscribe to a data plan for monthly traffic activity of about 500MB Make sure PIN REQUEST is OFF. If not insert SIM into a standard mobile phone and disable it. Several instruments are connected in RS485 mode but the software displays only one The GPRS modem does not connect to the network Make sure the termination jumper on the first and last instrument of the chain are closed Verify the correct insertion of the SIM Verify APN parameters and enter them manually if necessary Make sure the SIM has a data plan active for internet access Make sure the provider supports international roaming DATA if the connection is abroad The instrument is unable to obtain a valid IP address from the LAN or the software does not connect to it Make sure the pre-existing network allows auto-assignment of the IP address (automatic DHCP); if it does not, contact the network administrator to obtain the data to enter manually Make sure the network cable is connected to the instrument. Make sure it is a good quality cable and not the cross type. CAT 5, 6 and 7 cable types are compatibles ERMES does not find the instruments via internet that are correctly connected to a LAN FIRST TIME CONNECTION TO ERMES ERMES is asking for CODE and SERIAL NUMBER during first time access, where are they? ADDING AN INSTRUMENT TO ERMES Where is the CODE NUMBER required to add an instrument to the account? Make sure the internet connection is active Make sure there are no port-blocking third part programs and/or firewalls active that prevent data traffic through the TCP 2020 port CODE and SERIAL NUMBER are located on instrument s main label For instrument with LAN access: see SERVICE menu within instrument s software For instrument with GPRS access: enter SIM phone number 7

8 Account creation The first time that you connect to ERMES you must create an account and register your instrument. Using your PC or MAC launch the browser (eg.: Safari, Chrome or Firefox) and type in the address bar (without quotes). The following screen is displayed. If you want to change the language click on the flag in the upper right then choose between ENGLISH, FRENCH, ITALIAN or GERMAN. If you already have Username and Password enter them and click on Sign in. Otherwise click on Sign up, in this case the following screen will be displayed. Complete all fields with a valid address. Accept terms and conditions of use and click on Create account and join ERMES now. You will receive a confirmation to the address used during registration. From this moment you have 48 hours to add the first instrument. Otherwise the account will be disabled. 8

9 First setup If you have an account, you must complete the activation by adding a controller within 48 hours of initial registration. Using your PC or MAC launch the browser (eg.: Safari, Chrome or Firefox) and type in the address bar (without quotes). The following screen is displayed. If you want to change the language click on the flag in the upper right then choose between ENGLISH, FRENCH, ITALIAN or GERMAN. Enter your account information and click ENTER. The following screen will be displayed. Click on Add a new plant. The following screen will be displayed. Insert plant location (eg.: Rome) in the Create new site. Then click on NEXT. 9

10 First setup In the next screen, click Create a new system. The following screen will be displayed. Enter the plant name (eg.: pool Cinecittà) then click on NEXT (next). In the next screen you can add a new controller to the system. The required code is in the SERVICE menu of the controller that is being added to the system. To view this code is necessary to turn on the controller, enter the password to the main menu, scroll through items using the wheel until you find the SERVICE menu. Select it to view the code that consists of 6 digits. Depending on installed communication module this code can have different names (eg.: LAN DEVICE ). Enter the code and a controller description in the description field to facilitate the retrieval of information. Press NEXT. 10

11 First setup In the next screen you can enter the plant address. It is not necessary to fill in all fields. Click on NEXT. In the next screen you can enter the contact details of the contact person or administrator of the plant. It is not necessary to fill in all fields. Click NEXT (next). 11

12 First setup In the next screen, you can configure another access to the system. This user will be able, through this access data to modify controllers parameters. This user type can t delete or create a new plant. To delete the functionality for system editing make sure that box Edit Parameters is unchecked. Select new to add it within Choose user field. Click on FINISH to end procedure. A window in the center of the browser will ask you to confirm changes, click on OK to finish and record data. Now you can access to main window control within the created plant. From now on, you can retrieve or change all the information and parameters remotely by clicking on the left frame (eg.: system s name) and then selecting the controller. 12

13 USER AND ADMINISTRATOR ACCESS LEVELS The administrator account can set a lower-level access user to allow viewing and editing authorized controllers only. In order to enable this password login as ADMINISTRATOR, then the ADD USER on main for creating a new user. Enter the required information (name, username and passaword) then save. From main menu select EDIT PLANT. Choose the plant to which you want to add the user and then select the user and the functionality to be enabled. Save to enable the changes. 13

14 LOG UPLOAD & GRAPH Put a USB pendrive into controller s USB port and wait until the log is uploaded. Remove USB pendrive after the confirmation message has been shown on controller s display. Controller s USB port To graph controller s activity insert the USB pendrive to a PC connected to ERMES, click on USB LOG MANAGER and drag the log file (found on USB pendrive) on the window or click on it and uplod the file. Then click on plant to graph and wait until the page has been rendered. 14

16 All the materials used to build the instrument and make this manual can be recycled. This promotes maintenance of the incalculable 16environmental resources of our Planet. Do not dump hazardous materials in the environment! Contact the appropriate authorities to obtain information about recycling programs set up for the area where you are located!
