2 SkyWAN Product Family SkyWAN is a highly flexible and versatile VSAT system for establishing wide area corporate networks whilst providing IP router and frame relay switch functionality. Thus a wide variety of end-user business communication applications are supported in a manner as yet unparalleled in the industry. SkyWAN s unique system properties are based on its leading MF-TDMA DAMA satellite modem technology and the optimized interaction of its core system components. ND SatCom s next generation of SkyWAN products offers highest processing power and unbeatable capabilities. It is the most flexible, scalable and comprehensive VSAT (or satellite) communication solution on the market. Based on today s most advanced communication technologies, SkyWAN is the product of years of research by our innovative and highly skilled development team. SkyWAN Technology SkyWAN is an MF-TDMA VSAT system that supports voice, video and data applications in the most cost-effective manner. The system is capable of sending traffic bursts of 64 Kbit/s up to 8.75 Mbit/s per site and enables high speed, hub-less communication between remote sites. Any station can be reached via a single satellite hop connection supporting fully meshed network topologies. SkyWAN provides instant bandwidth-ondemand through its fully dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme. Valuable space segment resources are automatically assigned to stations requiring transmission capacity as and when they need it, whilst freeing up resources for on-demand use by other stations in the network. 3 // SkyWAN IDU our flagship product combines a comprehensive feature set with a full range of ODU technologies // SkyWAN IDU 5000 SkyWAN Product Overview SkyWAN is an MF-TDMA VSAT system with up to 8 frequency channels. Each channel has a capacity of up to 5 Mega symbols per second, resulting in a maximum network capacity of up to 70 Mbit/s depending on the Forward Error Correction (FEC) code chosen. Frequency hopping among carriers with different channel rates is possible. A SkyWAN package consists of an Indoor Unit (IDU) plus the Outdoor Units (ODUs). The IDU is linked to the Radio Frequency Terminal (RFT) via an L-band interface, thus cost-effectively supporting broadband applications via satellite. RFTs are available in C-band and Ku-band and in various power levels. Customer network requirements define the precise RFT configuration. SkyWAN is available in 2 versions: / SkyWAN IDU 5000 in a 7 slot chassis with hardware extension capabilities; used typically for Hub or remote station functions / SkyWAN IDU 2000 in a 3 slot chassis; typically used in remote stations The SkyWAN IDU 5000 is an MF-TDMA modem with built-in IP routing, frame relay switching as well as multicast transmissions. It combines a comprehensive feature set with a full range of ODU technologies. Each SkyWAN IDU 5000 provides one Ethernet/ Fast Ethernet port and up to four operational frame relay ports. ND SatCom s family of Frame Relay Access Devices (FADs) attach to the frame relay ports to provide a full range of legacy interfaces and protocols, such as V.24, HDLC, X.25 plus analog and digital voice channels. A second demodulator can be inserted into the SkyWAN IDU 5000 chassis offering additional options for network design. Multicast sessions requiring high bandwidth capacity become feasible, which in addition can be optimized by an unique feature of SkyWAN called Flexible Multicast Channel Assignment (FMCA). With the addition of the Frame Plan Generator (FGA) option, the station is able to function in either Master or Backup-Master mode. Both versions provide static or dynamic IP routing with IP Quality Of Service (QOS) according to the Diffserv standard. TCP Acceleration is available as a fully integrated and optimized software option and enhances all TCP applications. SkyWAN IDU 5000

4 SkyWAN IDU 2000 SkyWAN IDU 2000 SkyWAN IDU 2000 is a derivative of SkyWAN IDU It incorporates identical technology and provides the same user interfaces. The slimline 2 RU, 3 slot SkyWAN IDU 2000 unit is full compatible with the SkyWAN IDU 5000 system and is offered off-the-shelf in star topology configuration. A simple upgrade option enables a fully meshed network topology to be implemented. Each SkyWAN IDU 2000 is shipped with three basic modules: / User Interface Module (UIM) Board / Modulator Board / SIC/Demodulator Board // SkyWAN Compact is the answer for customers seeking a comprehensive but low-cost solution // The built-in IDU 2000 power supply also drives the Radio Frequency Receiver (RFR) and the low power Radio Frequency Transmitter (RFT). SkyWAN Compact With SkyWAN Compact, we have bundled the IDU 2000 with the RFT family to offer a highly integrated and compact format solution. All SkyWAN Compact components are certified to IEC and conform to CE regulations for safety, EMC and R&TTE levels. Available power levels are 2 W, 4 W in Ku-band as well as 5 W C-band. 5 SkyWAN FAD Series // SkyWAN and FAD combined offer premium voice Quality-Of-Service over minimum bandwith via satellite // SkyWAN PEC 1000 SkyWAN FAD Series SkyWAN FAD Series comprises cost-effective voice and data integrated access devices for satellite based frame relay networks. They compress and packetize traffic recieved over LAN or serial line interface and then transfer it to SkyWAN via Frame Relay. Incoming traffic is prioritized according to the source, enabling, for example, terrestrial voice quality over satellite. A range of FAD devices is available to accommodate a variety of end-user requirements. // SkyWAN PEC 1000 the unique solution for connecting HF/VHF-Radio SkyWAN PEC 1000 employs state-of-the-art voice compression techniques to economically interconnect radio (HF/VHF) voice circuits via satellite. In combination with the SkyWAN IDU series, the PEC 1000 enables point-to-point radio voice circuit connection through standardized interfaces to a wide range of telecommunications equipment. A main feature is the ability to match the specific characteristics of the radio communications equipment to those of the satellite satcom environment, thus maximizing connection quality and bandwidth economy. Permanent link monitoring instigates automatic switchover to redundant equipment and ensures maximum network availability. 6 SkyWAN NMS Tools ND SatCom provides a Network Management System (NMS) for managing and monitoring the SkyWAN terminals and network. Based on HP OpenView Manager, the NMS utilizes SNMP and runs on professional quality PC equipment. For redundancy purposes a backup NMS can be installed at any site of the network. The SkyWAN NMS provides a significant set of features and tools to support the network operator during configuration, operation and monitoring of the network. // Our comprehensive SkyWAN NMS Tools significantly ease operation and maintance of the network // Optional NMS Tools include the Link Manager.
