2 RSP Testing Tasks and Tools The use of embedded UICCs instead of traditional SIM cards leads to many changes for everyone involved in handling, operation, and testing the components. It is no longer possible to change the network provider by switching the SIM card. Device and soldered euicc are inseparable! Instead, with remote SIM provisioning (RSP) technology, it is possible to retroactively change the network operator of devices that are already in the field. New challenges coming with RSP How to make sure that euicc, device, and the RSP back end are designed according to the standards? How to modify the SIM profile on an euicc? 3 Compliance Testing with Connectivity Test Center It would be extremely reckless to roll out an euicc, a mobile device with already soldered euicc, or a subscription manager without previously testing compatibility with applicable standards. COMPRION test benches for Connectivity Test Center do not only cover all relevant test specifications defined by ETSI, 3GPP, and 3GPP2 that apply to both UICCs and euiccs, they also encompass the euicc, device, and subscription manager tests defined by GSMA and SIMalliance. Connectivity Test Center, in combination with the RSP device tests, forms a validated platform at the Global Certification Forum (GCF). That means that these tests are certification-relevant for devices supporting RSP functionality. The euicc test cases are qualified by GlobalPlatform and can be used for self-certification of euiccs. For many years now, COMPRION has been providing reliable validated test solutions for such tests, thus enabling manufacturers to roll out certified products to the market. 4 COMPRION Network Bridge With COMPRION Network Bridge, remote SIM provisioning scenarios can be processed in a lab environment independent of a real network, network simulator, or device. It allows end-to-end testing with just the euicc and the subscription manager by bridging the complete over-the-air communication (cellular network) and providing appropriate simulations. Figure 3: Graphical user interface of COMPRION Network Bridge with Local Profi le Assistant Simulation Here, the necessary device functionality (mobile equipment, Local Profile Assistant) and the relevant network communication units (SMSC server, packet gateway) are simulated. The graphical user interface provides information about the current status of the simulated device and shows additionally the logged data exchanged between subscription manager, device, and euicc in a clear format. 5 euicc Profile Manager With euicc Profile Manager supporting M2M as well as consumer device euiccs, you can load profiles to euiccs, enable and disable profiles, and delete profiles. A easy user interface hides the complex RSP architecture that is required for execution of the corresponding procedures. In addition, euicc Profile Manager scans the contents of an enabled profile, visualizes the file system, allows editing, and visualizes the sent and received commands in a sequence diagram or protocol view. 6 Remote SIM Provisioning Platform for M2M and Consumer Device Architecture RSP M2M Platform and RSP Consumer Devices Platform enable you to set up a complete remote SIM provisioning infrastructure in a lab environment around the euicc. The off-card interfaces of both platforms are accessed using appropriate web services. RSP M2M Platform provides a simulation for a Subscription Manager Data Preparation (SM-DP) and a Subscription Manager Secure Routing (SM-SR). Consequently, it supports all relevant administration processes like profile download and installation, profile enabling, profile disabling, and profile deletion in the same manner as a real RSP architecture. RSP Consumer Devices Platform provides a Subscription Manager Data Preparation+ (SM-DP+) and a Subscription Manager Discovery Server (SM-DS) simulation. It supports all remote provisioning procedures and functionalities as well as event handling for the discovery service. The modular structure of the platform enables you to integrate real components into the setup to test its interoperability. Test environment and real operation environment are becoming comparable thus increasing the practical relevance of successful test runs, for example, in the areas of euicc management and profile management. To prevent the user from losing track, both RSP platforms offer so-called sequence diagrams that provide a quick overview of the exchanged commands and data between subscription manager, device, and euicc.
