1 Avaya Solution & Interoperability Test Lab Application Notes for Infoblox DNSone in an Avaya Communication Manager Wireless IP Telephony Infrastructure Issue 1.0 Abstract These Application Notes describe the procedure for configuring the Infoblox DNSone to provide DHCP services to Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point and DHCP/TFTP services to Avaya 3616 and 3626 Wireless IP Telephones in an Avaya Communication Manager Wireless IP Telephony Infrastructure. Information in these Application Notes has been obtained through compliance testing and additional technical discussions. Testing was conducted via the DeveloperConnection Program at the Avaya Solution and Interoperability Test Lab. 1 of 26

Introduction These Application Notes describe the configuration steps required for Infoblox DNSone to provide DHCP services to Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point and DHCP/TFTP services to Avaya 3616 and 3626 Wireless IP Telephones in an Avaya Communication Manager Wireless IP Telephony environment. For information on the steps required to configure the Infoblox DNSone to provide DHCP and TFTP services to Avaya 4600 IP Telephones in an Avaya Communication Manager IP Telephony Infrastructure, please refer to the Application Notes in [6]. The DNSone delivers integrated DNS, DHCP and TFTP services for Infoblox network identity appliances. It may be used as an integrated DNS/DHCP/TFTP server, external authoritative name server, forwarder, secondary server, caching-only name server, or DHCP-only server. Configuration of the DNSone is done through a web-based graphical user interface. The DNSone also provides security and reliability features. It minimizes unauthorized access by blocking unnecessary ports and not providing general user accounts (multiple administrative accounts are allowed). For increased reliability, two DNSone appliances may be deployed in a High Availability or DHCP Failover configuration. The configuration in Figure 1 shows a network consisting of the Avaya S8300 Media Server with G700 Media Gateway, Avaya Voice Processor Module, Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point, Avaya 3616 and 3626 Wireless IP Telephones and Infoblox DNSone connected to an Avaya C363T-PWR Stackable Switch. The Wireless IP Telephones were registered to the Avaya S8300 Media Server with G700 Media Gateway. The tested configuration is shown in Figure 1. 2 of 26

3 Figure 1 Sample Network Configuration Diagram Table 1 shows the DHCP Option settings the Infoblox DNSone DHCP server must provide for the Avaya Wireless IP Telephones to register with Avaya Communication Manager. The firmware files for the Avaya Wireless IP Telephones must reside on the TFTP server s root (/) directory. Configure the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point The configuration information provided in this section describes the steps required to set up the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point for DHCP in this solution. For all other provisioning information, please refer to the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point product documentation in references [1] and [2]. This section assumes the Avaya Wireless Scantool application (provided in CD-ROM with the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point) was already installed on a PC in the network and used to initially configure the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point for DHCP. The Scantool was also used to determine the IP address assigned to the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point by the Infoblox DNSone. For the purposes of these Application Notes, the IP address assigned by the DNSone was Step Description 1. From a computer on the network, browse to and log into the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point with the appropriate credentials. 2. In the System Status page that appears, click Configure. 4 of 26

5 Step Description 3. In the IP Configuration page that appears, verify IP Address Assignment Type is set to Dynamic, and then select the DHCP Server tab. 4. In the DHCP Server Configuration page that appears, verify Enable DHCP Server is unchecked and select the DHCP RA tab. 5 of 26

6 Step Description 5. In the DHCP RA page that appears, click Add in the DHCP Server IP Address Table. 6. In the DHCP Server IP Address Table Add Entries page that appears, set IP Address to the IP address of the Infoblox DNSone and click OK. 6 of 26

7 Step Description 7. Return to the DHCP RA page by clicking the back button on the browser. Verify the Infoblox DNSone ip address appears in the DHCP Server IP Address Table and the entry s status is Enable. This completes the configuration required for the Avaya AP-8. The screenshots provided below are for informational purposes only. 8. To view the SSID used in the Avaya Wireless AP-8 for this configuration, select the Interfaces Wireless-B tab. 7 of 26

8 Step Description 9. To view the security profile used for Wireless-B on the Avaya AP-8, select the SSID/VLAN/Security Wireless-B. In the page that appears, scroll to the bottom. 10. The security profile used for Wireless-B appears in the middle of the page and the SSID (SamyB) for the Wireless-B network is listed in the bottom of the page. 8 of 26

9 Step Description 11. To view the Security Profile 2 settings, select SSID/VLAN/Security Security Profile tab. In the page that appears, WPA/PSK is enabled for Security Profile 2. To view where the PSK Passphrase is set, select the Security Profile 2 radio button then click Edit. 12. Scroll to the bottom of the page that appears. This is where the WPA-PSK Station PSK Passphrase is set on the Avaya AP-8. 9 of 26

Configure the Avaya Wireless IP Telephones The configuration information provided in this section describes the steps required to set up the Avaya 3616/3626 Wireless IP Telephones for DHCP in this solution. For all other provisioning information, please refer to the Avaya 3616/3626 Wireless IP Telephone product documentation in reference [3]. Step Description 1. With the Wireless Telephone powered OFF, simultaneously press and hold the Power On / Start Call and Power Off / End Call keys. Note: In the steps that follow, the Scroll Up / Select / Scroll Down buttons refer to the buttons whose labels are highlighted in the picture with the rectangle. The Softkeys A, B, C and D are the buttons whose labels are highlighted in the picture with the oval. 2. After hearing two beeps, release the Power On / Start Call key, then release the Power Off / End Call key. 3. In the Admin menu that appears, select Network Config. 4. In the Network Config menu that appears, select IP Addresses. 5. In the IP Addresses menu that appears, select Use DHCP, then press Softkey D (Up) to scroll up to the Network Config menu. 6. In the Network Config menu, select ESS ID. 7. In the ESS ID menu that appears, select Static Entry. 10 of 26

In the ESSID screen that appears, enter the ESSID to use, e.g., SamyB, press Softkey A (Save), press Softkey D (Up) and press Softkey D (Up) to return to the Network Config menu. 9. In the Network Config menu, select Security. 10. In the Security menu that appears, select WPA-PSK. 11. In the WPA-PSK menu that appears, select Passphrase. 12. In the Enter Passphrase screen that appears, the Passphrase to enter must match the Passphrase set in Section 3, Step 12, press Softkey A (Save), press Softkey D (Up) until the Admin menu is reached. 13. Repeat Steps 1 12 for the Avaya 3626 Wireless IP Telephone. This completes configuration of the Avaya Wireless IP Telephones. 5. Configure the Avaya C363T-PWR Stackable Switch The configuration information provided in this section describes the steps required to enable DHCP relay on the Avaya C363T-PWR Stackable Switch. For all other provisioning information, please refer to the Avaya C363T- PWR Stackable Switch product documentation in references [4] and [5]. Step Description 1. Log into the C363T-PWR with the appropriate credentials via the console port or a telnet session. 2. Enter into router configuration mode: C360-1(super)# configure C360-1(configure)# C360-1(configure)# session router Router-1(configure)# 3. Enable DHCP relay: Router-1(configure)# ip bootp-dhcp relay 4. For each interface that connects to DHCP clients, specify the IP address of the DHCP server that will handle the DHCP requests received on the interface: Router-1(configure)# interface vlan7 Done! Router-1(config-if:vlan7)# ip bootp-dhcp server Done! Router-1(config-if:vlan7)# exit Done! 5. This completes the configuration of the C363T-PWR. 11 of 26

Configure the Infoblox DNSone The configuration information provided in this section describes the steps required to set up the Infoblox DNSone to provide DHCP services to the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point and TFTP/DHCP services to the Avaya Wireless Telephones in this solution. Many steps in this section are similar to those described in Section 5 of the Application Notes for Infoblox DNSone in an Avaya Communication Manager IP Telephony Infrastructure in [6]. Screenshots in this section are provided for steps specific to this solution. Please refer to [6] for sample screenshots not provided in these Application Notes. For all other provisioning information, please refer to the Infoblox DNSone product documentation in reference [7]. The instructions that follow assume that the DNSone has already been configured with the appropriate network IP address, , via the console port Initial Login Setup Step Description 1. From a computer connected to the network, launch a browser and browse to Log into the Infoblox DNSone with the appropriate credentials. 2. If a Warning HTTPS popup appears, click Yes to proceed. 3. If a Warning Security popup appears, click Always. 4. In the Infoblox DNS Solution browser page that appears, the Appliance Startup Wizard is automatically launched on first time login. Click Next to proceed. 5. In the Infoblox End-User License Agreement wizard window that appears, click Next to accept the License Agreement. 6. In the Configure standalone appliance/ha pair wizard window that appears, select Standalone appliance and click Next. 7. In the Configure standalone ID node wizard window that appears, set IP Address to , Subnet Mask to , Gateway to , and Host Name to ns1.avaya.com. Click Next. 8. Click Next in the wizard windows that appear changing defaults as appropriate until the Confirm configuration settings window appears. Click Next. A message appears requesting the browser be shutdown. This completes initial configuration of the DNSone. 12 of 26

13 7. Configure TFTP Step Description Obtain Avaya Wireless IP Telephone firmware files 1. From a computer connected to the Internet, launch a browser and browse to Download the latest generally available Avaya 3616/3626 Wireless IP Telephone release. Confirm the version of Avaya Communication Manager being used is the correct version for the Avaya 3616/3626 Wireless IP Telephone release being downloaded. Transfer the downloaded file to a computer in the network depicted in Figure 1 and unzip or uncompress it. For the purposes of compliance testing both upgrading and downgrading Avaya 3616/3626 Wireless IP Telephones using the DNSone TFTP server, two versions of Avaya Wireless IP Telephone Releases were stored on the download PC. The first version was placed in a folder on the download PC called 40 and the other was placed in a folder on the download PC called 42. When download was tested, the contents of folder 40 were uploaded to the DNSone TFTP server root (/) directory. When upgrade was tested, the contents of folder 42 were used to overwrite the 40 Wireless IP Telephone firmware files in the DNSone TFTP server root (/) directory. Connect to the Infoblox DNSone 2. From the computer used in Step 1, launch a browser and browse to Log into the Infoblox DNSone with the appropriate credentials. 3. If a Warning HTTPS popup appears. 4. In the Infoblox DNS Solution page that appears, click the ADMINISTRATION tab on the top of the page. Upload files to the TFTP server root (/) directory 5. In the ADMINISTRATION page that appears, select the TFTP Data Management tab on the left side of the page. In the TFTP Data Management page that appears, click or highlight TFTP Files in the left hand pane. This is the TFTP server root directory. To upload the Avaya Wireless IP Telephone files to the TFTP server root directory, click Upload in the menu bar located above the TFTP Data Management tab. 6. In the new browser window, Upload TFTP file, that appears, click Browse. 7. In the Choose file popup, browse to the 42 folder created in Step 1, select the first file in the directory and click Open. 8. In the Upload TFTP file folder page, click Upload. 9. Repeat Steps 5 8 for every file in the 42 folder created in Step 1. Note: A special Infoblox admin Perl script was used to download an entire directory s contents rather than one file at a time as currently available from the browser interface. The script was available in the password protected support area of the Infoblox web site and required customer registration. At Avaya s request, Infoblox has since created a data import tool that they report really simplifies TFTP file import. The tool can be downloaded from Sample screen shots of the tool sent by Infoblox can be found in Appendix A. Infoblox reports the TFTP data import tool s functionality will be integrated into the Infoblox browser interface in an upcoming release. 13 of 26

14 Step Description Configure TFTP service on DNSone 10. From the Infoblox DNS Solution page, click the MANAGEMENT tab on the top of the page then select the Members tab on the left side of the page. 11. In the Members page that appears, browse to ID Grid Infoblox in the left hand pane, click or highlight the TFTP (Member TFTP Properties) service on the right hand pane then click Modify in the menu bar located above the Members tab. 12. In the Member TFTP Properties popup that appears, check Enable TFTP Service then click Add 13. In the Add Address popup that appears, select Network followed by , set Subnet Mask to , and for Permission, select Allow. Click OK. 14. In the Member TFTP Properties popup, click OK. 15. In the Infoblox DNS Solution page, click Restart Service. 16. In the Restart Service popup that appears, select Restart services (if needed) and click OK. This completes configuration of the DNSone TFTP server Configure DHCP Step Description Enable DHCP Server 1. From the Infoblox DNS Solution page, return to the MANAGEMENT Members tab, browse to ID Grid Infoblox in the left hand pane, click or highlight the DHCP (Member DHCP Properties) service on the right hand pane. 2. In the Member DHCP Properties page that appears, check Enable DHCP Server and click OK. 3. In the Members page that appears, click Restart Service. 4. In the Restart Service popup that appears, select Restart services (if needed) and click OK. Define DHCP Options 5. In the MANAGEMENT Members tab, browse to ID Grid Infoblox in the left hand pane, click or highlight the DHCP (ID Grid DHCP Properties) service on the right hand pane and click Modify. 14 of 26

16 Step Description 8. In the Custom Option popup that appears, select Option 176 in the Option pull-down menu, select string in the Type pull down menu, check Type Only, and click OK. 9. In the ID Grid DHCP Properties page, click Add of 26

17 Step Description 10. In the Custom Option popup that appears, select Option 151 in the Option pull-down menu, select ip-address in the Type pull down menu, set Value to and click OK. 11. In the ID Grid DHCP Properties page, click OK Create Networks to be supported by the DNSone 12. In the Members page that appears, select the Networks tab. 13. In the Networks tab that appears, select or click Networks in the left hand pane and click Add in the menu bar above the Networks tab. 14. In the Add Network popup that appears, set Network Address to , Subnet Mask to , Comment to Network x and click OK. 17 of 26

18 Step Description 15. In the Networks page that appears, click or highlight the network added in the previous step and click Add in the in the menu bar above the Networks tab. 16. In the Add DHCP Range popup that appears, set Start Address to , set End Address to , and click Advanced 17. In the Advanced DHCP Range page that appears, check Override routers, enter , click Add and select the Custom Options tab. 18 of 26

19 Step Description 18. In the Custom Options page that appears, check Override network custom options setting and click Add 19. In the Custom Option popup, select Option 66 from the Option pull down menu, set Value to the value for Option 66 in Table 1 and click OK. 20. In the Advanced DHCP Range Custom Options tab, click Add 19 of 26

20 Step Description 21. In the Custom Option popup, select Option 151 from the Option pull down menu, set Value to the value for Option 151 in Table 1 and click OK. 22. In the Advanced DHCP Range Custom Options tab, click Add 23. In the Custom Option popup, select Option 176 from the Option pull down menu, set Value to the value for Option 176 in Table 1 and click OK. 24. In the Advanced DHCP Range Custom Options tab, click OK. 25. Once the network has been added, click Restart Service. 26. In the Restart Service popup that appears, select Immediately and click OK. 27. This completes configuration of the DNSone DHCP server. 8. Interoperability Compliance Testing The interoperability compliance testing focused on verifying the Infoblox DNSone properly provided DHCP services to the Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point and DHCP/TFTP services to the Avaya 3616/3626 Wireless IP Telephones in an Avaya Communication Manager IP Telephony Infrastructure General Test Approach The general test approach was to connect the Avaya 3616/3626 Wireless IP Telephones to the Avaya C363T-PWR Stackable Switch and verify that the Avaya Wireless IP Telephones successfully receive responses to their DHCP and TFTP requests from the Infoblox DNSone. Two versions of the Wireless IP Telephone firmware files were used to confirm the Infobblox DNSone would successfully provide firmware files for upgrade and downgrade. 20 of 26

21 8.2. Test Results All executed test cases completed successfully with the same observations noted in [6] repeated below: TFTP uploads are single file at a time Current implementation of TFTP server on DNSone limits file uploads to a single file at a time. During compliance testing, a special Infoblox admin Perl script was used to download an entire directory s contents rather than one file at a time. At Avaya s request, Infoblox has since created a data import tool that they report really simplifies TFTP file import. The tool can be downloaded from Sample screen shots of the tool sent by Infoblox can be found in Appendix A. Status: Infoblox reports the TFTP data import tool s functionality will be integrated into the Infoblox browser interface in an upcoming release. Infoblox TFTP logging is not available via the browser interface The Infoblox TFTP server does not provide logging through the standard monitoring logs available via the browser interface to the DNSone. Status: Infoblox reports improvements have been made to their Syslog capabilities to provide more messaging from their TFTP service. This should be available in an upcoming release. 9. Verification Steps The following steps may be used to verify the configuration between the DNSone and the Avaya Wireless IP Telephones in an Avaya Communication Manager IP network. From each subnet/vlan, ping the DNSone and the Avaya S8300 Media Server with G700 Media Gateway and verify connectivity. In the DNSone browser interface, verify that the address scope and associated address range and DHCP options are specified according to the information listed in Table 1. Power cycle or reset an Avaya Wireless IP Telephone. Verify the Avaya Wireless IP Telephone obtains an IP address from the DNSone DHCP server. Verify the Avaya Wireless IP Telephone downloads its firmware files from the DNSone TFTP server for upgrade or downgrade as appropriate. After the Avaya Wireless IP Telephone acquires configuration information, enter the extension and password when prompted. After the telephone comes up, press Function button then scroll through the menu that appears and verify that the assigned IP address, 21 of 26

22 subnet mask, call server IP address for the phone are correct. Repeat for each Avaya Wireless IP Telephone being verified. Verify the Avaya Wireless IP Telephones successfully register with the Avaya Communication Manager and calls can be successfully placed between extensions. To view all DHCP log messages on the DNSone, select the MONITORING tab at the top of the page. In the left hand pane, browse to ID Grid Infoblox To verify leased IP addresses on the DNSone, select the MONITORING tab at the top of the page then click DHCP in the menu bar under the MONITORING tab. 10. Conclusion These Application Notes describe the steps for configuring the Infoblox DNSone to provide DHCP and TFTP services in an Avaya Communication Manager Wireless IP Telephony Infrastructure. During compliance testing, the Avaya Wireless IP Telephones in the network simultaneously obtained IP addresses and downloaded firmware for firmware upgrade and downgrade test scenarios. The Avaya AP-8 Wireless Access Point successfully received responses to its requests for IP address from the DNSone as well. 12.
