3 AMS360 Online Workstation Hardware and Operating System Because AMS360 runs primarily on your local workstation, each workstation must be capable of running this feature-rich application. If you purchase a new computer for AMS360, use the items listed in the recommended category or higher. If you are evaluating existing computers, those that meet the Minimum requirements may work depending on your use of AMS360 and other applications on that PC. Component Recommended Minimum Not Supported Comment Hard Drive Space 10 GB of local disk space per user Space is determined by all applications installed/used on the workstation and the number of people using it. Each user has his/her files saved to individual profile folders on the disk. Memory 4 GB 3 GB These are estimates for general use. You may need to increase memory if the workstation is used for may applications outside AMS360. Processor/ CPU Speed Multi-core: 2.6 GHz or above Core 2 Duo: 2.6 GHz or higher Single Core: 3GHz or higher Reduced feature CPUs such as Celeron or AMD Sempron You may need to Increase the CPU speed if you use the workstation for reports, commercial lines business, and/or eforms. Video Resolution Resolution 1280x1025 or higher AMS360 will run at lower resolutions, but you may not see all menus and screens may require scrolling to see the entire page. 3

5 Network Local/WAN Your network infrastructure largely impacts AMS360 performance. Work with your network consultant to implement a network solution that includes business class device(s) raising reliability and availability to an optimum level. This section covers your Local Area Network. See the next section for information about your Network/Internet. Local area networks should be based on 100 BaseT technology with Cat5 or better class wiring. If using Gigabit networking be sure the network cable infrastructure is adequate. Network Duplex Setting Auto-Detect/Auto Negotiate on all devices Network Infrastructure Enterprise/ business class switches Switches (no hubs or switchhubs) A switch optimizes bandwidth usage on the LAN. A hub allocates bandwidth equally causing wasted bandwidth. Hubs cause performance problems in a congested network. Entry level or a home networking router or firewall has very slow processing and can create a bottleneck on your network. Network Internet Your internet configuration depends on system usage and your local ISP. You may want to work with a local consultant for Internet connectivity. The consultant can provide information on what is available and help with Internet security. A Tier 1 connection provides the service level for businesses. The Vertafore Data Center uses Verizon Savvis Tier 1 and XO as a secondary provider. View the My Vertafore document on bandwidth and latency for more information. 5

6 Your internet configuration depends on system usage and your local Internet Service Provider (ISP). You may want to work with a local consultant for Internet connectivity. The consultant can provide information and help with Internet security. A Tier 1 connection provides the service level for businesses. Our Data Center uses Verizon Savvis Tier 1 and XO as a secondary provider. View the My Vertafore document on bandwidth and latency for more information. Bandwidth and latency can vary over time. To get a realistic picture of both, measure it on different days and times. Test your connection to the Vertafore Data Center at Testing your connection speed is critical in determining your bandwidth quality. Component Recommended Minimum Bandwidth Higher as needed to meet agency needs 1.54 Mbps down and 768 Kbps up (approx users)* Not Supported Comment Adequate bandwidth is critical for AMS360 performance. Bandwidth requirements vary. You may need to adjust your bandwidth depending on your use of the internet for AMS360 and other web applications. Internet Connection Business class DSL, Broadband cable, Fractional T1, or Fiber Constant Dial-up Satellite Latency Router/ Firewall 50 ms (milliseconds) latency or lower** SMB or business-class appliances (no SOHO) Less than 10 users: SOHO gateway or better Greater than 10 users: Router, firewall, and switch Latency measures delays in moving data across your network or Internet connection. Latency and bandwidth are equally important. High latency means the data takes longer to move across the wire, regardless of how much bandwidth you have. Your router and firewall processing capability impacts how AMS360 performs. The capability is based on the number of users each device is designed to support. *Bandwidth (56kbps) may be used for occasional lookup ** Maximum Delay: 200 ms latency 6

7 Faxing You can use fax software in place of a printer (if it emulates a Windows printer) to fax anything from AMS360 that you would normally print. AMS360 also provides a PDF (Acrobat) format for attaching a file to an message or for other purposes. For bulk distribution of certificates, AMS360 does not support faxing software that acts as a printer. However, you can use printer faxing software to print individual applications and forms in eforms Manager. You can also use an fax vendor or InterFAX, a web API fax provider, for bulk distribution. For information on InterFAX, visit their website at Scanning, Imaging, and Attachments AMS360 includes Document Management where you can attach letters, messages, images, or other documents to AMS360 Activities or in WorkSmart content management. This feature allows for multiple storage and indexing options. In AMS360 Online, attachments are copied to the database in our Data Center. Attaching large files (such as high resolution images) can impact performance. AMS360 Online agencies have a 100 MB size limit on individual attachments. AMS360 doesn t include scanner hardware, drivers, or scanning software. Scan documents using scanner or other software to create the files. You can then attach the files directly to Activities or use Document Management for storage and tracking. Virtualization and Terminal Server / Citrix Vertafore applications can run in a virtual or terminal server environment. However, Support can t help troubleshoot these configurations for you. When supporting Vertafore applications, if a Support Representative determines the problem may be the system configuration, you will be required to troubleshoot issues outside the virtual/citrix environment.
