Installation by qualified electricians only. hints for the lightning protection at class I and II luminaires Hints for construction of the luminaire: ive parts of the ECG are separated by double/reinforced insulation against the outer surfaces of the ECG except in the area around the terminals. The compliance with relevant creepage distances and clearances according to IEC in this area must be guaranteed by the fixture. A minimum distance of 8 mm between any conductive part and the terminals is recommended. For the proper function of the lightning stroke protection, a minimum clearance and creepage distance of 8 mm between live parts and parts being connected to the equipotentiality terminal is recommended. ightning stroke protection: The ECG is protected against 10 kv surges. For the proper function of the lightning stroke protection, metal parts of the luminaire must be connected to the pink equipotentiality terminal. If the potential of the metal parts rises above 8 kv, an internal surge arrester directs a high current to or for a short time. Absorption of the current will limit the surge voltage. The protection circuit is capable of absorbing at least 10 asymmetric surges of 10 kv derived from IEC Class I luminaire: Accessible metal parts of the luminaire must be connected to PE. The ECG is equipped with double/reinforced insulation. Therefore the connection of PE to the ECG is not necessary for the protection against electric shock. However for the proper function of the lightning stroke protection PE respectively metal parts of the luminaire must be connected to the equipotentiality terminal. Class II luminaire: For the proper function of the lightning stroke protection metal parts of the luminaire must be connected to the equipotentiality terminal. This terminal is double insulated against live parts of the ECG. Metal parts of the luminaire which are connected to the equipotentiality terminal are safe to touch in case of normal operation or single fault page 3 of 5
